I'll start off by saying that a very useful resource is Bulbapedia. It lists all Pokémon, their stats, and their moves. Use it to build your team! 

Pokémon behave very similarly here as they do in the games. However, certain things are altered. Natures, IV's, and EV's are completely disregarded. Also, base stats are not considered when attacking. The only base stat taken into consideration is speed, which determines which Pokémon attacks first in a match. - - {DAMAGING MOVES} - -

POKÉMON CAN ONLY USE MOVES THAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF LEARNING IN THE GAMES. TO FIND THIS, GO TO YOUR POKÉMON'S BULBAPEDIA PAGE AND VIEW THE LIST OF MOVES THEY CAN LEARN. BE SURE TO USE THE MOST CURRENT LIST (GENERATION VI AND ON).

When using an attack, the amount of damage dealt will equal the attack's base power, since it is unaffected by stats. Don't forget to add any effects the attack may cause! Accuracy is disregarded, but PP is not. For attacks that say mention doing more damage if a condition is met, double the base power of that attack (ex: Acrobatics has a base power of 55, but if your opponent does not have an item, it will do 110 damage). If your Pokémon is the same type as the attack they are using, add 3 to the base power. - - {STATUS MOVES} - -

Now, although stats are not considered, status moves can still be used. When using a status move, add 5 to all of the moves that use the stat. This will be shown as x1. All stats can be raised or lowered a total of 5 times. In other words, all stats can be raised or lowered by 25 points. If the move says it "sharply raise/lowers" a stat, then add/subtract 25 to the base power of all attacks of that stat the first time you use it. These moves can only be used once per Pokémon. If you raise a Defense or Special Defense stat, then subtract 5 from the damage your opponent deals. If you raise a speed stat, add 5 to your Pokémon's base speed. If your Attack/Special Attack is lowered, subtract 5 from your base powers. Do the same to your base speed if your Speed is lowered. If your Defense/Special Defense is lowered, add 5 to the damage your opponent deals. Evasiveness and accuracy are disregarded, so moves raising or lowering evasiveness or accuracy cannot be used.. BURN: Half the base power of all physical attacks and take 5 damage after each turn
FREEZE: Cannot move for 3 turns or until hit by a fire-type move
PARALYSIS: Cannot move every 2 turns and speed is decreased by 50
POISON: Take 5 damage after each turn
BADLY POISONED: Take 15 damage after each turn
SLEEP: Cannot move for 4 turns
CONFUSION: Take 5 damage after every other turn, wears off after 5 turns or until the Pokémon is switched out
CURSE: Take 3 damage after each turn
INFATUATION: Cannot attack after every other turn, wears off after 5 turns

Each Pokémon can hold an item. Below you'll find some links to help you choose your items.

Gems and Type-enhancing Items: Increase the base power of moves of the same type as gems by 20.
Stat-enhancing Items: Disregard critical-hit enhancing items. If it doubles a stat, then double the base power of the moves of that stat. If it doubles Defense/Special Defense, then half the opponent's damage by physical or special moves. If it says to increase by 50%, increase by 30.
In-battle Effect Items: Do what the description says. Use the same rule stat changes.
Mega Stones: Used to Mega Evolve a Pokémon
Berries: Sitrus berry restores 80 HP, all other healing berries restore 40. For berries that decrease damage, half the base power of the attack. For stat-raising berries, increase the Attack/Special Attack moves by 15 and lower opponent's attacks by 15 if Defense/Special Defense. 25% of all Pokémon's HP is 250.

- - {MEGA EVOLUTION} - -

When Mega Evolving a Pokémon, increase Speed, base power of physical and special attacks, and lower the damage taken by the opponent's physical and special attacks by 50. You may only have one Mega Evolution on your team.

Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Manaphy, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Genesect, Meloetta, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Diancie, Hoopa, and Volcanion.
