I don't really know how I feel about this character. Sure, many people downright hate her.
I don't know I just feel like Erins did terrible job at developing her. I mean she was there for nothing but drama. Seriously. Why. She died at the beginning, was in love with the protagonist for no reason and then just... vanished. I mean... I just feel like that's poor writing.
Why couldn't Erins redeem her and make her... move on in TLH instead of killing her??? Like she found a nice StarClan tom, BUT NO, we will kill her for more drama! Like really?
I think the whole concept of Spottedleaf would be better if she wasn't in love with Firestar. Why couldn't she care about Firestar because he was a prophecy cat, for Leafpool because she waned to make her a good medicine cat, for the original three just because they were in a prophecy? Why? Why Erins?
They made a blank drama-causer and gave her cool traits and climgy personality. Wow, if I didn't know I wouldn't tell that they made a bestselling series.
I just hope Spottedleaf's Heart will expand her character as much as possible.

Erins were never good at writing, it was always about making up "OTP" relationships and fan service. And even then, they do a pretty crappy job at fan service

I don't hate her character... I hate the fact that she died young. If she didn't die as young as she did, we could learn more about her, and her character could be expanded... But now there's no room for that, and I doubt Spottedleaf Heart's will expand character very much because it's talking about something we already know (how she used to be a warrior before switching, and her past before Firestar).
And I do agree that the Erins have writing problems... It's mainly problems with character expansion, which a lot of characters desperately need (they're stuck between one or two traits, when there could be a lot more).

I don't hate her character... I hate the fact that she died young. If she didn't die as young as she did, we could learn more about her, and her character could be expanded... But now there's no room for that, and I doubt Spottedleaf Heart's will expand character very much because it's talking about something we already know (how she used to be a warrior before switching, and her past before Firestar). She was born the same with Redtail, her brother and no one is sitting here calling Redtail young as well. Spottedleaf was only written to seem young because of her mary-sueish description (beautiful, etc). I forgot where in the timeline spottedleaf and her siblings were born, but she was NOT "young." (thats why majority of people have a problem with her "liking" firepaw. she was already MUCH older). |
