"I'm Melody Pyres." Said Melody.
There was a brief silence.
"What does the B.J. stand for? I mean, if you don't mind my asking, not that-I mean- ummm... There's not really much of anywhere for this conversation to go, is there?"

(...lol what city are we in right now? Are we in DC or somewhere else I seriously have no idea)

Melody's eyes went wide. Captain America? As in... As in the Avengers? This guy wants to find the Avengers??? Why? He must be able to do something to help them, like a superpower, like... no, not like me, shut up Melody. No, I won't shut up, there's a reason you left ashes on the pillow. Shut up! I won't! I'm arguing with myself. And in the mean time this guy probably thinks I'm insane, but then, what else is new?
"UUHHmm We're in New York City... You're going to go help the avengers?"

Melody was well aware that her jaw had dropped open, and that she was already 15 minutes late for her Theatre class, and that she hadn't had breakfast. She didn't care. WHAT. THE. HECK.
She straightened up completely, trying not to look as flustered as she felt, and said "Well, sir, in that case, DC is that way?" She pointed vaguely right. A spark flew from her fingertip. She hid her hand behind her back. "So maybe you should go... there... Gotta get to class... and you're kind of in the... sidewalk..." She was losing focus. Her skin was heating up.

Bucky:

Human. That's how he felt, for once in his life. In control of his emotions and in control of his actions. Despite the fact that he had just killed someone, it was his own doing. No one forced his hand or told him to stop. And now he felt human. Everything human. He wasn't sure what made him do it, but he had opened his arms to Alyona, and now her arms were gently curled about his body. He looked down at her, as a brother would his sister, and gently hugged her back. It was a foreign and awkward thing to him, this kind of interaction since Hydra, but he felt it was right.

Was that what it was like to have a sister? To feel the need to protect someone like that? As her small body leaned into his chest, memories came back to him about his own family. He had a sister so many years ago, hadn't he? It was yet another memory that Hydra felt they could keep from him. The love of a family. Hydra wanted their drone to feel nothing. When he killed another man, Hydra didn't want him to look at that man and see his best friend or his father. They wanted him to see faceless stranger. And killing Borya had been a battle between killing an enemy or taking away the only brother Alyona knew. But when he looked at that man before him, he saw him for all the horrible stuff he did, and he knew that he was no brother. Not the kind he used to be, at least.

"I know what it's like to be under someone else's control," he said. "I know what it's like to be pushed around like a doll and do someone else's bidding. To be treated like machinery, to be treated like less than human." He searched for her eyes as she looked up to him. "If I can stop someone else from feeling the way I've felt for so long, I will." He gave her hair a soft brush with his non-metal hand and then gently pried her arms from him.


Steve:

Steve stepped back and watched Bucky comforting Alyona. He had thought it strange, for he hadn't seen Bucky showing much emotion until now, but he knew that they had all been through a lot together, and he couldn't blame him. He glanced over at Natasha and gave her a weak smile. "Mint chocolate chip isn't really my thing," he said, "but I know there's a whole tub of vanilla left over. And I won't give it up so easily." He gave Natasha a wink. I may be injured, but I could still beat you in a fight for some icecream.

He gave Bucky a clap on the shoulder, earning a small smile from his friend, and then he turned back towards Natasha. He took a step towards her, feeling the wound in his abdomen stretch with every movement. "I second the cleaning," he said with a slight wince. It was okay if he stood still, but moving was another story. "And then... we can celebrate."
