THE KINGDOM
(INTRO)
You can’t feel your paws anymore- they’ve been scratched half-raw on the rocks that are hidden everywhere under patches of grass and moss here. The wind is blowing today, and you can smell rain on the air. You put your head down and continue to walk into the wind, trying to find a place where you can stay overnight without getting too wet in the coming storm.
Suddenly you catch the scent of a few cats- three, you think- on the breeze. You crouch low, hoping they don’t see you, but unfortunately the Knights have keen eyes for anything out of the ordinary. They walk slowly toward you, taking their time, two broad and muscular toms, one long furred and the other a shortfurred tabby, pace on either side of a small, dark-pelted she-cat. The trio stops in front of you, and the dark she-cat narrows her eyes in suspicion.
‘This is the kingdom’s land,’ she informs you. You are quick to assure her that you had no idea, darting glances at the two toms who are easily a bit bigger than you are. ‘Do you intend to stay here?’ she asks, and, thinking quickly, you nod. Better to be on the good side of those massive claws. She nods. ‘I’ll go and inform HeronFlight of your arrival.’ She looks to the two toms. ‘GreyStorm, OakThunder, you’ll escort our new member back to the Castle.’
‘Yes, NightShade,’ says the taller, longfurred tom, presumably Oak. She flicks her tail dismissively and bounds away. The tabby tom looks to you.
‘Come on, Squire. Welcome to the Kingdom.’

cats are organized into families in the kingdom, which share a common suffix, though each member has a different first name. kits are given the mother's suffix since she's the one who can be proven in the lineage. cats adopted into a certain family will take that family's suffix.

Flight- the royal family, currently headed by Heronflight. the firstborn daughter is the heir to the kingdom. they often have first names that are different birds, and are normally longfurred.
Shade- a family that frequently becomes scouts, due to smaller stature and dark pelts, sometimes even black.
Storm- a family that often takes in strays or adopts cats unwanted for whatever reason in their own family. they have the greatest variety of any family because of this.
Thunder- this family has maine coon blood, so they are often medium or long furred and massive, towering over many others. because of this and their strength, they are most often knights.
