To put it simply, I liked it and Hawkwing certainly is an interesting character. But wow was it depressing to read when SkyClan kept on losing so many cats. I'm a bit surprised Ebonyclaw stayed behind, but not too much with Harveymoon. Glad to see MacGyver joined them at least.
Interesting that Darktail seemed to care for Hawkwing, and I was wondering if the Twolegplace rogues would reappear in this book. It's also pretty sad that many of those who survived either stayed behind or were separated from the group and never returned. Hopefully we'll see at least some of them, but I'm also a little doubtful about that. I was expecting to see Dodge and Stick and Barley again, though. I also wasn't surprised that Shorty and Cora became mates, and was glad when Harley apparently became the new leader of Dodge's group.
And it seems obvious by this point that Hawkwing and Pebbleshine are very likely the parents of Twigpaw and Violetpaw. And speaking of HawkxPebble, I liked their relationship and thought it was cute. I found it interesting how it seemed to be hinting at the possibility of HawkxPlum, but it seems pretty clear that Hawkwing's heart will always belong to Pebbleshine.
And now that I've read the manga, I finally know what the Blood Trail is. I'm guessing we'll be seeing SkyClan in the next book.
Overall, the book was a good read and I eagerly anticipate for Shattered Sky to be released.

Also, according to Lighty's thread Hawkwing hunted with a cat named Foggy. And I instantly though of Sol's brother since Su stated that was his name. Lol!

I wish I didn't read the manga, I like Echosong  And hopefully some of the daylight warriors will change their minds and come back. Maybe Alderheart and Sparkpelt will convince them? Although they don't really have a reason to go back to the gorge now... |

Did Darktail like Hawkwing cause he was a loyal to him for a while, or did he just admire his warrior abilities and think he could make the rogue group stronger? Or was it both? From what I've heard Darktail seems pretty interesting. Ruthless at times but hints at some logic and even sympathy here and there. As cliche as Tigerstar was, he kinda reminds me of how Tigerstar would fool others by sugarcoating his cruelty with some specks of genuine care.

Knowing him, it was probably only admiring him for his abilitiesโฆ Characters are unsympathetic often know how to fake sympathy, and Darktail would have to know how to do that, along with knowing how to be convincing and manipulative, in order to sway cats to his sideโฆ
I wouldn't be surprised if he felt a little bit of genuine kindness, but overall, I just don't see kindness as part of his personalityโฆ

He sounds like one of those evil characters whose notions of love and caring have become twisted and warped.
But the real question I wanted to ask is, why does he have the name Darktail? Not only is it a Clan sounding name, it's also kinda cliche for an evil villian, but I guess it's better than something like Spots if that was his real name. Is he descended from SkyClan as well? Is he trying to rebuild it in his own image and rule it with an iron paw?

Yeah, I noticed he was there a little after I posted and I guess I just forgot to correct my mistake. ^^" He is such in the background though that the only things that stand out to me when SkyClan met with Stick and Dodge's groups again is Shorty x Cora and the actual meeting and fight with Dodge after Curleypaw is taken (and Harley becoming the new leader). |
