I'm sorry if this somehow offends anymore, but I'll be using some real life examples.
So in Warriors, Starclan is just the collection of the warrior cats' ancestors. They are essentially just ancestral spirits that have their own space in the universe. These ancestors are able to visit their alive kin in dreams and can somehow see into the future to give omens and prophecies.
Now, in the native Hawaiian culture (i live in hawaii and im re-taking a hawaiian studies class, so i feel comfortable talking about this culture), they are also really close to their ancestral spirits. Their ancestors are frequently mistaken for Gods because the native Hawaiians talk about their ancestors with great respect and sometimes their ancestors are demi-gods or can be traced to demi-gods and chiefs, etc.
So what is this ancestor culture? It's not "magic" in the warriors world, because to me, talking to your ancestors is more a culture thing rather than religion. I don't think the cats in warriors have a religion because their spirit realm is just where their ancestors/kin go. There's no "god" or "gods" or "cat gods" in warriors. Starclan spirits are just ancestors to the cats.
It is also arguable that prophecies are magic or not. Are they? Considering many spiritual cultures such as natives Americans AND the native Hawaiians have ties to their ancestors, gods, and nature, they too are able to predict events, but it's very difficult to tell if it's considered magic or science.
So what is considered magic in the warriors series?
The only thing I would consider magic are super powers: Yellowfang's, Jayfeather's, Lionblaze's, Dovewing's, Leafpaw and Squirrelpaw's connection in TNP, and the ability to physical touch and interact with the dark forest warriors in the land of the living. All of this, I consider "magic."
So without these properties and instances, I think the series would have been better. There can still be prophecies and whatnot, but they'd all be more realistic. There wouldnt even be a dark forest battle because touching spirits and "killin" spirits is considered "magic."
This brings me back to the question of time travel and prophecies. Jayfeather was able to time travel twice and create a paradox. without him, the modern clans wouldnt have existed. So this begs yet ANOTHER question: did jayfeather create skyclan by time traveling? There was no skyclan in the original series. Firestar's SE did happen, but what if in the future in that same instance, Jayfeather had already time traveled? Thus giving Firestar and Sandstorm a reason to go looking for this "skyclan." So does that count as science or magic? I'm not sure.
