I don't think Pebbleshine is dead. Or that she abandoned her kits. I think she went to search for food and when she came back, she found no kits. And I thought everyone knew how clearly was the journey to find Twigpaw's mother trying to convince us that she's dead, even though she's alive. What do you guys think?

The kits had apparently been alone for several days, though.
And she also appears to Twigpaw as a ghost.

We don't have official confirmation, but she is most likely dead. The kits were found under what appears to be an interstate. In other words, many kitties are hit by cars. The odds are definitely stacked against her being alive.

I have two theories on what may have happened:
1. The state Violetpaw and Twigpaw were in upon being found. While it is true they were at the nursing stage, and very thin, we must remember that it is possible for Pebbleshine to have had not enough milk to feed them. Remember, Ferncloud lost her kit, Larchkit I think it was, from starving because Ferncloud couldn't produce enough milk due to lack of prey. This could have been the same for Pebbleshine. Also, with them being dirty...well, they were in a tunnel under an interstate. When Alderheart and Needletail took them, Pebbleshine could have been off trying to find help for her and her kits. Maybe she even tried to seek out Barley, since he would really be her only life-line at this point.
2. Pebbleshine died from either starvation, illness, or hit by a monster on the above thunderpath. But my question is, if that's the case, wouldn't Alderheart and Needletail had found her body? Or picked up the scent of a decomposing body? Unless Pebbleshine died quite a distance away from her kits, I find this theory not as promising. Others are saying that she may have abandoned her kits, but I feel like that is highly unlikely. Pebbleshine isn't heartless. She loved Hawkwing, and I'm positive she loved her kits too.

The problem with the first theory is that Needlepaw easily caught prey not far from where Alder and her found the kits, he even notes how quickly she caught it. Meaning Pebble wouldn't have had to go far to hunt for food. The other one can easily be solved by the fact that there are people who's jobs are to collect animals hit on the roadside for the purpose of preventing accidents. I know it sounds gross, but no one wants to see decomposing animals all the time. Also by now, even if humans didn't dispose of her, the scavengers like foxes, crows, and so on, would have. |

I called it. I mean it was pretty logical considering the conditions of the kits when they were found. But I do wonder how she died? Maybe on the Thunderpath like Jayfeather guessed. With this being said, guess this means HawkDove is now on the table, lol. I'm being half serious about this because Hawkwing did show interest in moving on, him and Plum would have probably been a thing if not for her mate returning. So maybe he'll find a new mate with a new cat from one of the other clans? Their relationship could be a bridge between the other clans.

I'm not totally convinced by Kate's answer. I feel like there is still a pretty large chance of Pebbleshine being alive. I mean, Hawkwing's Journey goes out of its way to establish that Pebbleshine might come back, and even AVOS hints at her possibly being still alive.

Thinking about this, I think she could be either alive or dead. She doesn't seem like the type of cat, from what I've heard, to just leave her kits somewhere. Not to mention how far would she go to get help? I personally believe that if she is alive, she was capture by twolegs while hunting or away from her kits. It would explain the condition of Violetpaw and Twigpaw when they were found if she is in fact still alive.

Okay Ima rant so um yea ... Pebbleshine isint dead and heres why : 1) shes way too important to be dead.2) Twigpaw and Voiletpaw were too close to Lake territories for Pebbleshine to be their mother. 3) Pebbleshine would be too sweet to abandon her kits. 4) TWIGPAW IS NOT THE CAT IN ECHOSONGS VISION. That cat would look exactly like Hawkwing. Twigpaw is much paler gray than Hawkwing. All what I got

They tend to have different information on what's happening in the story, so this may not be proof. Well yeah, the Erins are always contradicting each other(and even themselves at a few points), forgetting things in their stories or changing things form the book to what they say or vice versa. As I said, I'm probably wrong anyway. |
