I'm basically gonna be writing three prompts in one go by tonight without (hopefully) completely sucking
(I kid, this is gonna be fun so if you read it then I hope you enjoy = P )
"When the sun gave way to the moon in the night, that's when the monsters came out." -Second Prompt (first one was closed)
It was twilight. The sun left a streak of red, orange, and pink across the sky that left many breathless. In a normal time, it would have been beautiful in it's own rite. Flares of orange cloud with streaks of pink and red intermingling in a perfect dance. Then? After the sun's death, little sparks of energy and life would fill the sky in intricate patterns full of meanings yet to be discovered. After that, light would predictably fill the sky and cast itself coldly on the ground with a mysteriously beautiful solitude. It would light the world and show beings the way through the world while casting a new way of looking upon the things around you.
But not in this world. Not in this time. There, the death of the sun was an omen. The red were streaks of blood, the pink were promises of an imminent slaughter, and the orange was a fire exploding in the sky as a final warning to the innocent; the defenseless. It was here that soldiers, walking their defensive routes outside the towns, was a normal sight. It was here that beings of all kinds were brutally dragged away and never seen again. It was here that horror stories were made to be true every time that cold light cast it's cold and condescending glare down upon the world.
There was always some poor soul that tried to face the outside world. Whether they were running from what they thought was a cursed town, or found a foolish bravery in the fleeting time of their beating hearts, they were usually the first to go.
However, there was a child born to certain villages that possessed the blood of the very same demons that plagued the world every time dark feel over in a suffocating blanket. Instead of being cast out, though, they were celebrated as mystics, healers, or even diplomats. They were raised and trained for a day when they would take their parents place in defending the town.
Athena was one of those creatures. Though, she never felt like fighting or killing. This worried many as she felt these creatures also have sentience. She believed that they were merely trying to live in this cruel world just as everyone else was. As such, she was bullied and socially cast out, as nobody wants her ideals to plague their minds. Unfortunately, however, she was their villages only future saviour as her mother could no longer birth another child to take her place.
Athena was a small-framed girl with short black hair that grew longer in the front and shorter in the back. She was considered a witch with an owl familiar. Many found it ironic that her companion was another symbol of death but she felt her friend was wise as he'd been there for many centuries as a creature of the night with an extraordinary ability like her. Nobody but her and her mother knew about Nike's true identity. That was likely a good thing, as many would find it a little too horrific that Athena's friend was shape-shifting demon with the power of telepathy. Athena's mother found it worrying, I mean, he could always tell the demons about their weaknesses if they weren't careful. Athena didn't care, she liked his wise words and felt understood about her want for diplomacy with the demons.
It was how she felt on the matter until one fateful night. Her mother was getting slower on her barrier spells so many had snuck up on her and captured her. She was tortured until she released the barrier and surrendered, begging for mercy. They hadn't granted it her. Athena found her mother on the outskirts of town and cried out.
"Mother!"
Her mother, only inches from death, grabbed her daughter and sat up, blood pouring down her body. Her eyes were wide with fear and horror.
"Save them!" She had shrieked as demon poured in from around them.
Athena caught her mother and looked her in the eyes, fear stabbing at her heart. There was no time! She didn't want to kill anybody as she sympathized for these creatures. She knew their side but her mother knew the humans side. Feeling torn, she threw a question at her mother through her eyes. How could she ever hope to save the very people who had alienated her and hurt her all her life?
A single thought entered into her mind. It was both her and Nike's voice intermingling. You already know what you need to do.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't... protect..." her mother trailed off as the life started to fade from her.
Her body was engulfed in a red light as she fell backwards in limp lifelessness. Athena held her tightly to her, her eyes shut as tears ran black streaks down her face. Her mother's body slowly faded into nothing but a light and with one final thought, Athena knew there was only one way she could do this.
Nearbye, Nike fluttered to a branch and gave Athena a swift nod. She returned the gesture and before her mother's light could fade, she reached out and grabbed it, her hand closing around it as it disappeared into her.
Her tears stopped suddenly, leaving what seemed like permanent black lines down her cheeks. The red started in her wrists until it had made it's way into her heart. Her heart glowed brighter and brighter until all she could see was light around her. She looked around in the brightness, shivering by her sudden realization that she was wearing a white dress.
"I knew you could see..." her mothers words drifted to her, making her look around to find her mother right there, restored to a healthy form. Her mother was a rather tall woman with runic markings etched into her body. She had a warm air to her but an almost ancient vibe that she'd never noticed before now.
"I need you with me." Athena said to her.
Her mother nodded with a sad look on her face.
"I'm just so sorry that I could help your dream come true...." She looked away, guilt etched into her words.
Athena hugged her close, hard. And as her mother started to disappear she whispered to her, "Maybe in time, but right now, this bloodshed must stop."
Her last vision was her mother's sad and happy smile as they became one and the world fell back into place around her. Nike nodded and jumped from his branch, taking his true form. He was a rather tall person with a small frame. Athena wasn't very shocked to find out that her long thought male companion, was actually a woman. She appeared before Athena a woman with dark brown hair that spilled around her shoulders to her lower back. She wore a simple dress with runic language etched over it. What would have fazed Athena before were the wings that seemed to spread almost half the length of the clearing itself. She bowed to Athena, who had also changed in appearance.
Athena was now wearing what seemed to be a headdress of some kind with half a chest plate over her breasts. Her dress was now black with white runes etched into it; it also reached her feet. Her eyes had turned the same dark violet that her mothers had been and her expression was rather blank and cold.
"Lend me your power Nike." She order, outstretching a hand that seemed to hold a gold metal in a crisscross pattern all the way from her finger tips to her elbow.
Nike nodded, her expression serene as she took Athena's hand and outstretched her other one to the side. Athena copied this arm position as she started her spell.
"By the ancient titans and the gods of today I, Athena, call the thee to end this bloodshed to once and for all. Let light fill this wretched world and banish these beings back to a world of their own. By Nike's power, I declare tonight a final victory for Humanity." She started in a whisper and then raised it to a voice full of strength and command.
From their outstretched hand burst a light that spread across the lands and seemed to freeze time for Athena. Nike returned to her owl form and sat upon Athena's shoulder as she walked through the lands and bound each and every being that wasn't human save for the animals. Completing her ritual, she then picked up what looked to be a staff with a pointed edge. and along this staff, she them wrote the race name of every supernatural creature to be seal inside and kept at her side until the humans could accept the creatures into their world once more, but with harmony instead.
Many would know this as the first birth of Athena, would stayed on earth as a guardian that was worshiped as a goddess. Up until the day she day she joined the ranks of many other gods and goddesses in the stars as the Goddess of strategy and victory with Nike along her side. Up until the very day this story was lost to history.

That's it for the second prompt of the contest. It stands at 1535/2500 words.
