Personally I think she's one of the best well-written characters in the series. She was also an awesome elder. I was so sad when Sandstorm died.

She used to be a brat, but then she matured into a fine and great cat.

I'm actually reading the older books again to my baby bro, and you're right, she was down right nasty toward Fire, and it made me lift a brow. My baby brother doesn't like her much either, and Fire x Sand in general is just meh to me. |

I loved her in the prophecy's begin. But then she became a shallow background character after the first series.

I honestly think she is one of the most likable, understandable characters. I could empathize with her when she was kind of upset of Firestar's unresolved feelings for Spottedleaf. I also like her feisty personality. Most she-cats in the series are all so kind and smart and everything, but Sandstorm is one of those characters who is just herself and will let herself protest. She even is one of the most trustworthy warriors of the clan. Firestar didn't make a desicion without seeing what she thinks about it. Why no Sandstar, Erin Hunter?

I really liked her as a character, even though she faded into the background in later arcs. She definitely had some noticeable development, especially since her mate was Firestar (who she couldn't stand at first). And I like how she was brought back as an important character in TAQ, and even though she died, she died in the way she wanted to (doing something important, instead of just sitting around in the elders’ den).
