I do have a thought, tho idk how it would really work and all but it's a good life practice? before we speak we should ask ourselves, how can I continue to show kindness and love even if opinions differ? Because I think when opinions differ is where the tension really lies and it's important to keep spreading love and kindess and not hate, because there's too much hate in this world to begin with. Just a random thought that popped into my head, but yeah.

oh, that is a lot of candy, i didn't even notice that until now.
i feel like if we discussed it, perhaps we could all come to an agreement or something? idk if that would do much, but it's obvious people have been getting hurt and feeling uncomfortable over this. i hate to see anyone feeling uncomfortable over something like this - it's a big deal, and this should be a safe place, but if people feel like they're not safe then we, as members of the forums, aren't doing something right. it's not the mods job to keep us happy - you guys are here to make sure we follow the rules and don't start flame wars and stuff, from what i do know about what you guys do (i could be wrong, please correct me if i am!)
i mean, i haven't been here for most of the arguments. i haven't actually seen anyone being discriminated against or insulted. i've only heard of it secondhand, so i don't know how much it has happened or how bad it is.
but i feel like if we could come to the agreement that these are only opinions, then that might be a starting point? if people really are being insulted, that's wrong. you should keep your opinions to yourself or discuss them on your own thread (i'm talking about the christians here bc i haven't seen, nor heard of, anyone insulting them for their religion.)
idk, it might not be helpful at all. it might not do anything. perhaps doing that would make it worse, i don't know. this didn't happen on the old forums, or if it did, the conversation was shut down VERY quickly.

The only problem is, who exactly has shown themselves to be a homophobe? and like TEX said in the original post, a homophobe would be an irrational, intense fear of gays, which should actually be treated with therapy and is of no fault of their own.

the homophobes get to walk away scot free because they will never understand the struggles lgbt+ people go through each day.
unless they change, nothing will happen.

Christians are also supported under the new rule placed about last week-ish. While it was made because of the reason lgbt bashing, we used to protect other groups as well to prevent further issues.
I've only seen anti-christian remarks right after a fight concerning lgbt, but that's reasonable, because people lash out when their hurt and it really shouldn't be used against them, but the comments are rare nonetheless. There's a thread for Christians to talk amongst either other I really just think this whole thing was a misunderstanding, or from my perspective it is

no from hell, to purgatory- to heaven. A truce can't solve anything, though- that's my opinion, there will always be a trace of homophobes and hate.

solution: ban the homophobes???? its not that hard instant fix to all of the forums unhappiness that is a solution at least but it might cause more problems then it solves and how do you know who is a homophobe/bigot/whatever? for certain, at least you could ban the christian thread, i suppose. you could ban all of the people on it. but they might make new accounts, some of their friends might leave bc they were banned, you might ban people who didn't need to be banned based on the 'banning homophobes' bit. plus it might be only a short solution. maybe it'd help? i do not know

yeah, there are always going to be people who are rude and don't listen or follow the rules. while your beliefs are just that, and they're opinions, and you (this is an in general you btw) shouldn't be forcing them down anyone's throats, they're opinions and you should be allowed to have them.
i mean, the new rules state that "discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated" (that's a direct quote) and as such, there shouldn't be ANY more discrimination on the forums. if there is, the mods will take care of it. hopefully that'll help put a stop to it but we don't know for sure, and we might not know for a while.

the term homophobia means "dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people." the term phobia itself means "an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something," i.e. a fear. being a homophobe doesn't mean you're actually afraid of them, though? the way the term is used today means someone who hates them, not someone who's scared of them? but an arachnophobe isn't someone who just hates spiders, they're afraid of them... so the term in itself makes no sense

no from hell, to purgatory- to heaven. also. Homophobia currently means an aversion or opposition to homosexuals or homosexuality, not a fear of it. The etymology of the "phobia" is only historic in this case. Similarly, hydrophobia should mean fear of water, but it refers to rabies.

Similarly, hydrophobia should mean fear of water, but it refers to rabies. yeah. etymology's the key here. like, the word gay used to mean happy, now it's another term for a homosexual. there are quite a few other words like that nowadays. it's pretty interesting imo.

Wait so what I'm getting from this is that if someone fears homosexuals without meaning to, is considered a homophobe even if they don't say anything against the LGBTQ+ community and keep their feelings to themselves and are somehow oppressive?

As Soft said, the reason this thread went down the drain was because of certain people looking for a fight... which I can name a few. It all really depends on people not making attack comments, since that's where a majority of the fights come from. Honestly, I feel like discussions like these should be kept to either PM or special threads to keep fights form breaking out, since there are people who can easily attack based upon beliefs.
//just my two cents, whoops

Phobia's are usually irrational so the term homophobe meaning something otherwise just doesn't make sense to me, I think that the hate or aversion as you said of homosexuals could be termed in a different way
but that's just wording, it doesn't particularly matter in this case, since we're mainly trying to figure a way out to come together? idk i stated my idea at the top of this page but idk
