but what is up with ShadowClan and being bullied/taken over by outsiders?
First, Blackstar's reign and Sol. And now we have Rowanstar's reign, and Darktail.

ShadowClan's leadership hasn't been all that strong. Even with Blackstar he wasn't all that strong of a leader. Yes he made ShadowClan better but he had several moments of bad judgement.
ShadowClan has had plenty of bad leaders, many of them were made leader for the wrong reasons.

I guess it's karma for the whole WindClan thing. It still kinda seems unfair for them to punish them for what their punishment did, if you're referring to them kicking out WindClan.

ShadowClan seems to have a severe stability problem. Either their traditions and leadership just tends to suck or the way their cats are taught effects them. I mean, in Yellowfang's Secret it seemed like they had a disregard for medicine cats despite them being the connection to StarClan. In the original series they faced one huge threat after another and were in shambles. In the new prophecy Blackstar was more willing to take the cats to the city where BloodClan used to live versus going with everyone else etc. etc. Once you get to OoTS and AVOS where you see the inside of ShadowClan from one of their own's perspective, it seems like they just have a severe problem when it comes to the next generation. Also they should use birth control. lol Shadowclan in Yellowfang's secret seemed to have an odd communication problem with the other clans. Unlike with Bluestar, Crookedstar and Tallstar, you couldn't tell what was going on in the other clans from Yellowfang. Which is kind of odd. Every other character in the series could tell us something about the other clans yet Yellowfang couldn't. You could just blame Yellowfang for being a bad narrator but then you consider how Shadowclan would talk about the clans at home. They usually would attack Windclan on the basis of, the leader riled up the clan and convinced them to fight because Windclan was stealing their prey or trespassing, Despite the fact there was no proof of that in the story. (Granted the way Windclan treated Thunderclan throughout POT and the guides shows that maybe there was ground for anger in Shadowclan that we just didn't see through Yellowfang) In Thunderclan the question of war was brought up after someone saw suspicious activity on the borders, after a patrol got ambushed, after prey was stolen, or after a warning from Starclan. There needed to be a reason to fight. This is the same in Windclan, Riverclan, and Skyclan. Shadowclan didn't seem to have that. No one reported tresspassing, the leader just brought it up in a rally speech. They seemed to be very prone to rally around the flag mentality. Maybe this has contributed to their modern day problems.

Guys:
When Rowanstar is born, BloodClan tries to take over the forest. When he has kits, Sol ruins his Clan. And when he becomes leader, a group of vicious rogues ruled over by Darktail drives him out.
It's all so clear now.

The point is that Shadowclan conducts foreign policy based on riot mentality and nationalism rather than any sort of evidence which is odd when compared to the other clans.
