A silver she-wolf was walking along the forest, her blue eyes scanning the clearing, and her black nose sniffing the air. Her tail swished with every step, and she perked her ears as she flew up into the air, screeching. The silver she-wolf was suddenly in a net of some kind, and she squirmed as a human appeared in some bushes. It looked more younger than the hunters the wolf was used to, and she howled as it got closer with a shiny thing in its paw.

A black form weaved silently among trees and bushes, the limp body of a raccoon hanging from his large, powerful jaws. His deep Amber eyes watched the surroundings, ever alert, his gaze boring into the landscape. His ears swerved toward screech and later a howl of what sounded to be a female wolf. The male wolf prowled the undergrowth, body lowered toward the ground, careful to avert his step away from twigs that might make loud noises. He peered out at the back of a young hunter and a she-wolf in some sort of net, suspended in the air. The human seemed to be holding something shiny, sharp and no doubt fatal. He tucked the coon body ever so gently in the crook of a tree's roots and slowly crept up on the human boy. Teeth bared, the black wolf leaped at the human, clamping his powerful jaw around the arm that held the object, his sharp teeth braking the skin and he felt blood trickle into his mouth.

The she-wolf watched, ears pinned to her head in distress. The hunter had let out a yell, dropping the shiny thing, and it landed with a crack. Its arm seemed to crack, and it kicked the new black wolf away. The she-wolf could smell the fear scent evaporating off of the young hunter, and watched as it fled with yells and screeches. The female wolf's blue eyes bore into the human until it disappeared in the bushes. Then she fixed her gaze in the male wolf who saved her. "Thank you," she barked. "I will repay you one day." She added with a smile. "But first," she paused, shifting in the net uncomfortably. "I must get out of this." Her cheeks flushed red with sheer embarrassment, and her smile turned to a light frown. "I should've known a trap was waiting for me somewhere in this forest," she murmured. "I'm Alira, who are you?"

The black wolf snarled at the human as it left in a hurry before turning to the silver she-wolf. "I could not allow a fellow wolf to get hurt. Especially by the hands of a hunter. Once they kill one thing, they think they can kill the entire forest." He replied to her thanks. "Traps are everywhere, we just need to stay alert and know that no Hunter can hurt the mighty wolf. Anyway, I'm Darcell, nice to meet you," he barked in response, padding over. He took hold of the rope net in his teeth and bit down, snapping the fibers and beginning to make a hole in the net. He continued until it was big enough for Alira to escape before he took a step back.

Alira scrambled to the ground, happy that she wasn't in the air anymore. How did birds fly and not feel even a tad sick? She shook away the thought. "I hope I didn't disturb you," she said. "I can go, if you want. I'm hungry anyways and need to find myself a meal." Alira explained, tail waving back and forth in the light wind. "I-I have a pup to take care of," she didn't want to tell this complete stranger yet that her friend had abandoned both Alira and her own pup. Alira couldn't leave her friend's pup alone to die, so she carried it around with her. The silver she-wolf would soon let him go live by himself once he knew how to. The pup still didn't know how to hunt at least a rabbit for himself, and Alira was determined to help him improve on his hunting skills.

"Well, I've got a coon and I no I can't eat that hole thing. I actually ate something a by earlier, you could have it if you'd like." Darcell offered. He'd planned on taking it to his den to chew on it a while, but if this she-wolf had a pup, she'd be better with it. He padded a small distance away and picked up the large raccoon before bringing it back over to Alira and setting it down in front of her.

"T-the whole thing?" She asked in awe, scanning the lifeless raccoon for a moment, then back at him. "I could take half.. I don't need all of it." Alira acted like she had split it in half, placing a paw on it. "You caught it, you should have more than I. I can catch more for myself. You earned this raccoon." She added with a soft smile. Hopefully Night didn't wander off out of the den again. Alira tried to talk fast; her foster pup, Night, always got bored easily and liked to wander off when Alira was gone.

"It's fine. I'm not really hungry, I mainly caught it for sport. I can help carry it back you your den if you like." Darcell offered. He noticed the change in pace in her voice and wondered if something was wrong, but decided it better not to ask.

"That would be nice," she clamped the raccoon's limp back legs in her mouth, waiting for Darcell to grab its front legs or its head. "My den is in that direction." Alira's tail pointed to the west of where they were standing, and she starter to heave the creature in her jaws to that direction.
Night sat in the dark cave he and Alira called home, and tried not to become bored like always. He stumbled around, trying to catch his own paws and falling onto his face. Night got up with a start, running in circles and eventually falling again because of dizziness. "Nothing to do," he started to hum, then started to sing it. His tail drummed on the cold stone floor, and his head swayed with his beat he made up.

Darcell nodded and picked up the coon by its neck, carful not to brake the neck bone so it'd be easier to keep hold of it. He padded west, matching his pace with Alira's so that there would be less awkward of a hold on the limp animal.

Once they arrived, Alira dropped the raccoon and nudged it inside of he den. "Thanks, again," she said. She ignored Night as he dug into the raccoon, very hungry clearly. "You can stay or go if you want, I don't mind." Alira added as she took a bite of the piece of prey. As she swallowed it, she scolded Night. "Don't eat so fast!" Night sighed. "Who cares? You're not my mother, so why would I listen? Especially at a time like this when I'm hungry," he snapped. Alira tried not to snap off a piece of the pup's fur in anger, and kept eating silently.

"It really was no problem," Darcell replied as Alira nudged the raccoon into the den. Then, the large black wolf got a good look at the put and had to stifle his laughter. "Little wolf, eat until your stomach bulges, but do not choke and die a silly death than die an honorable death in your future." He advised to Night, refraining from saying pup as it might upset the young male. Then he sat down and turned to Alira, "Excuse me for prying, but if he's not your pup, than who's?"

When Night was done, he merely went into the back of the den, to sleep, Alira guessed. She perked her ears as Darcell asked something that caught her attention. "O-oh," she began. "My old friend, Kayla, abandoned her pup once she had him and went off somewhere far from this forest. Ever since I've just been moving from place to place with Night." Alira explained. "And it's not prying into my buisness at all, I don't mind when other wolves ask that," Alira turned to look up into his eyes, her eyes scanning his. One of her ears flickered back, and she smiled.

"I can't believe any wolf would abandon their pup, it's just not right, but it was good of you to step in and take care of Night. It must have been hard for him without a father." Darcell barked in reply, then noticed her smile and he gave a soft smile in return, his Amber gaze warm and friendly.

Alira gave him a slight nod. "Yes, his parents both left somewhere I don't know," she admitted. "I'm sure they were planning it way before they even had him." Alira glanced to where Night disappeared. "I know he does like me, but," she paused for a moment, in thought. "But I feel like he hates me. As if I'd never be a good mother." Her ears drooped, and Alira tilted her head down, frowning now. She sighed. "Anyways," she looked to the setting sun above the trees. "Y-you can go. I should be heading to sleep by now." Alira got up with a start, picking up the raccoon in her teeth and storing it in a dip in the stone. She settled down in the far corner of the den, watching Night's body on the other side of the cave. Maybe I am just a horrible mother.

Darcell shook his head, "I'm sure you're a great mother and I doubt he hates you. I'll come around in the morning, if you don't mind, I'd like to take Night for a hunt." The black wolf stood and shook out his pelt and turned to leave, casting another glance back at the she-wolf. He bounded out of the den and headed off toward his own, brittle leaves crunching underpaw.

Alira blinked gratefully, and drifted to sleep thinking about Night.
***
"Wake up!" Alira blinked as Night pounced on her, knocking the wind out of her. "Okay," she huffed, pushing the pup off of her. "I'm up." Night snorted, "Good, you've been sleeping like a hedgehog!" Alira sighed. "Darcell is taking you out to hunt today," she said. Night blinked. "Is he the other black wolf who hunted for us?" Alira nodded. "Why don't you go outside?" She suggested. The black pup nodded eagerly, and pranced outside. Alira got up slowly, stretching out her legs and taking a few bites of the leftover raccoon.

Darcell padded through the undergrowth, he'd been up since the peak of dawn. His Amber eyes scanned his surrounding as he made his way, careful to keep distance from the broken trap where Alira had been caught, not wanting the Hunter to have returned. As he continued on the route to Alira's den, he picked up the scent of hound and fox, it wasn't stale, but it wasn't very fresh, a Hunter was probably out after a fox during the night; nothing new. He emerged from the brush to find the little black wolf already waiting for him and Darcell barked a greeting to the pup. "Ready for the hunt? Do you need me to show you anything first or have you done plenty hunting before?" He asked as he came to stand in front of Night.

Night looked up at him. "I'm amazing! Except, I have failed at catching anything." He admitted with a proud puff of his chest. "I ran right past a rabbit once!" Night exclaimed with a swish of his fuzzy tail. "Can we hunt a deer? I've never had deer. Have you had deer? Ooh, what's that?" The black wolf pup wandered off into the forest, seeing a brown and black—thing. It looked more winkly than a wolf, and its ears were flopped. Its back was covered in a black saddle pattern, and its muzzle was also black. It had a strange thing around its neck. "Hey, who are you?" He growled. The wolf looking brown and black thing looked up at him, starting to bark loudly. Night backed off. "G-get out of my territory!" Then he spotted a longer, thinner creature on two legs carrying a metal thing approach, shooting at Night. He yelped, scambling away to Darcell again. "Help!" He cried. Alira sprang out of the den at gunshots, and snarled, seeing a dog and its owner—a hunter. "Grr." She snapped.

"Hound." Darcell growled. "Looks like you'll need a new place to stay Alira; I doubt this Hunter will just up and forget about your den and us." Be bared his teeth and let out a long, loud, rough growl and he saw the hound flinch slightly. "Hounds weren't made to hunt wolves, but that gun of his will pose a problem. We should split up, the hound can only follow one of us. If night comes with me, they'll most likely chase me in hopes of two kills, Alira can come up from behind and attack." Darcell suggested, pushing Night in front of him, away from the hound and began running. "I hope your fast, little wolf." He weaves between trees and bushes, keeping a close eye on Nught and making sure not to get to far away from the black pup.

Alira stifled a nod. I hope you're right. She raced in the opposite direction from where Darcell went, shakily gulping. Night had followed Darcell, racing alongside him—or at least trying to. The Bloodhound howled, running after the two black wolves, barking crazily. "What if," Night huffed. "What if more come?" He asked. Another shot flew past his head, luckily, Night dodged it. He swallowed, his throat tight. "What's going to happen to Alira?"
(And just to make it more exciting: )
The silver she-wolf focused on attacking the hunter from behind, trying to keep up. A shot had fired by her paws, and she stumbled, tripping on her tired limbs and collasping. She widened her eyes as more hunters came. Usually they only came in groups in winter! More dog barks had sounded from far away, getting closer. The terrified she-wolf got up onto her paws, growling as they cornered her. Alira leaped under a hunter's legs, then yelped as a hand had taken hold of her tail. She struggled in the air as it pulled her up, and the hunters started blabbering to each other, some laughing as she yelped loudly. She shivered constantly as they shoved her into a cage, and she lied there, immobile.

Darcell continued to run as he answered, "She'll be fine so long -" he was cut off by Alira's loud yelp. He didn't need to look back to know that more hunters and hounds joined the group. The large black wolf looked around and spotted a hole in the base of a tree, just big enough for Night to fit through and he doubted any of the hounds could fit in. He shoved Night hard to the side, changing their corse east a bit and he urged Night into the tree before veering off west and making a loop back toward where Alira was held in a metal cage. He could only hope Night had stayed in the hollow tree. Hounds hot on his tail, Darcell urged his muscles to go faster and he leaped onto the cage Alira was in and pushed off hard, landing on a hunter and pushing him to the ground. He bit hard at the man's wrist before pulling away, just barely dodging a bullet. He made a small loop biting and slashing at any of the hounds that got near him.

Alira looked back desperately to go back to Night, but howled as the hunter carried her cage farther into the forest. He was accompanied by a snarling Bloodhound, and everytime it barked the hunter yelled back at it. She sighed, flattening her ears.
Night cried out, frowning as he was shoved into a tree. He peered through the hole, watching the action and searching the crowd for his foster mother. "Alira!" He howled, narrowing his eyes and tears slid down his face.

A sleek she wolf with a yellowish cream colored fur coat on her back, and a light cream colored coat on her underbelly and face ran rapidly, yet swiftly through the trees. She kept hearing gun shots. The she wolf stopped when she saw the hunters and wolves fighting. She crouched, her blue eyes gleaming with fear and wonder.
Shard paced as he waited for his youngest sister to come back from her hunt while Sonny lay on the ground, her eyes closed, but her ears still pricked and listening around.
"She's been gone for over a half an hour!" Shard said in almost a growl,
"She's fine. She does this everyday," Sonny replied."

Darcell knew he wouldn't last long and there was no way he'd be able to free Alira. He made a sharp right, dodging another bullet before darting behind a tree. While he was safe for at least a few moments, he let out a loud howl. If any of his comrades were around, they'd hear him and come, and, hopefully, any others wolves in the area would also show up, he just hoped Night didn't come out. He didn't want the pup to see the terrible scene. Just then, another hound showed its ugly muzzle and Darcell turned, snapping his large jaws around the hounds neck, satisfied at the whimpering and struggling before the satisfactory crunch of bone; right before a searing pain in his leg made him let go and struggle to the ground. His leg had been shot.
Lily's young lapped at the clear, blue water of the river, the icy cold water entering her mouth. Not far away were the nearly vanished prints of a coon and wolf with the stale scent of Darcell and raccoon. She hadn't seen him for two whole moons and now he finally decides to show up, but he didn't even say anything! They'd been close when she was younger, they'd even feed the idea of mates, but then things happened, he disappeared, she'd been ignoring him. But naturally, they made up after time, though she still got a little annoyed and tried turning everything into a competition with him around, always refusing to be outdone. Her dusty brown fur tinged with black stood on end and her ears perked tall as she heard the familiar bowl of her friend, his tone a little off making her worry slightly. It was his trouble call. Quickly, she turned from the river and headed on toward the sound, passing a hollow tree on her way, barely noticing the little opening in the bottom as she hurried to help, the gunshots becoming more noticeably loud as she neared.

Beech saw the wolf get shot. She key out a yip of fear before she turned it into a surprisingly deep growl she hesitated, but she ignored her indicts to run and jumped out of the brush and out to help Darcell. She looked around to see if any other threats were around her, her soft green eyes now into slits. She was ready to fight. She could see other hunters in the tree line. Beech looked down at the wolf with worry and care, but she kept her ears faced towards the hunter and her muscles alert and ready to run if she had to.

By now, Alira was a thing she'd seen before. It was made of metal, and it started moving. She shivered with uncomfortableness.
Night ignored Darcell's orders that rang constantly in his head, and squeezed through the hole in the tree, searching for somewhere to run to. He spotted a brush of bushes, and set off towards it at once. Night could feel the hot breath of a bloodhound in pursuit of him, snapping at his tail, and he jumped sideways as a bullet was shot at him. The dog swerved towards him, it getting shot instead. He nodded to it, heading back towards the bushes he had spotted earlier.

Lily barely noticed the shadow-like pup that scurried among the hounds and bushes, as her sights were set on Darcell. Seriously, how did he manage to get himself into such a situation? She knew he was stupid, but she didn't think he'd allow himself to be shot and practically surrounded. "I always told you, you should've joined a pack, but you never did listen." She half teased.
Darcell let out a wry laugh before putting pressure on his shot leg. It hurt like crazy, but he knew he had to suck it up if he wanted a chance at saving Alira. He realized there were only about five hounds left and Alira was all, but gone, the only clue to her where was the growl of a hound and the heavy tracks of a hunter. "Let's take care of the hounds then we have to save that she-wolf." He ordered and Lily nodded. He charged to the left and Lily charged to the right of the same hound. Lily attacked first, scratching the hounds muzzle and biting at his ear. Distracted, the hound was unnaware of Darcell who now has leaped at the hound and had his jaws clamped had around its neck.
