I know this is a really touchy subject and everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions, but I am still allowed to have my own too. Fair warning if you are going to vote Third Party what I'm going to say will upset you.
I think voting third party is an incredibly selfish thing to do. Yes both candidates are terrible and 2016 is a really bad and weird year. But voting for president isn't about ONLY your personal feelings towards the candidate. You need to think about the rest of us too. Trump is homophobic, racist, heavily misogynistic, has NOT paid taxes in years, cheats people out of their money to make himself richer, says he would date his own daughter were she not, has manymanymany failed businesses under his belt and is just a gross human being all around. Hilary isn't a great person either but I can't think of any things that are as bad as what I stated Trump is. Nobody is perfect okay.
You need to think about where you want America to go from here, a step forward? Or two steps back? Do you want to be known as the people who let Trump win? If you don't think Trump is harmful to the non-white, cis men then look at His VP Mike Pence, google some of the policies he has supported in his own state and how terrible they have turned out.
Voting Third party may show your personal feelings towards this election but it screws the rest of us who's lives are riding on the election. I'm Gender-fluid and Pansexual. If Trump becomes president something is going to go wrong and my identity will be a problem and I won't be able to be myself.
Sure you aren't activley taking a vote away from either candidate if you were never going to vote for either Hilary or Trump, but it's still very selfish to think that the rest of us will be okay if Trump becomes president. So in this case, A vote that isn't for Hilary is a vote for Trump.
I want to apologize for upsetting anyone, but I need you to understand my viewpoint on the subject. I want to survive and live happily. I want America to progress to be the country I know it can be. And I know that won't happen if Trump becomes president.
I'm going to work, but I await the kind and civil discussion I expect to find when I return.

i'm autistic, pan-demiromantic, asexual, transgender, have many other physical and mental issues, and afab i'm screwed if he becomes president

i don't understand why this is so hard for some people to accept. it does not work. it just doesn't. your third party candidate is not going to win anyway, and you know this. why not vote for the sake of your country then, if you know a 3rd party vote would be a waste anyway?

i find both equally evil so i have no qualms about throwing away my vote by going third party and voting on principles i mean it, i've done a lot of soul searching and i cannot see either one as being slightly better than the other since i will not vote for either, i might as well vote for a loser anyways

Also if this isn't enough to show you how ineffective voting third party is, just looke at America's past. Especially the 2000 elections with Ralph Nader. That's one of the main reasons people say Voting third Party doesn't work.
And even if you think both parties are "pure evil" think about the rest of us and how we would all be affected if either one became president. Think about the rest of the world and how they would react to our president, or more importantly how our president would react to them.
Who would you rather have? A president that has worked with and dealt with foreign affairs for years? Or someone who is so temperamental that he said he would have turned the plane around if the Chinese government didn't give him a red carpet stair case to exit a plane on and completely miss a meeting with other world leaders?

? not everyone votes for third party bc they don't want to vote for hillary or trump just as many do it for policy as well while that's true, it doesn't change the effect that the vote has, which is...to not vote for Hillary or Trump which, if you (general you) hate them equally, then I guess doesn't matter to you, but that's still what ends up happening (not that I'm a particular fan of Gary or Jill, but it is a pretty unfair system) also remember that time Eugene Debs, a socialist, ran for president while in prison and got 9 million votes and that isn't really relevant but it's like...wow that happened

? not everyone votes for third party bc they don't want to vote for hillary or trump just as many do it for policy as well but third party candidates cannot win. that's the point being made here. voting third party is essentially pointless. i like the vast majority of the policies by the Green Party, but that doesn't mean i'm going to vote for Stein because i know she literally can not win. therefore, i'll use my vote for someone who i can tolerate marginally better than the other because i at the very least know they have a chance at getting into office. it's not a challenge of your political beliefs. it's the method that actually works.

I vote third party not because I expect them to win. I vote for them because they are the only moral choice I see available to me. If there was no 3rd party vote, I would not vote at all. So either way my choice doesn't affect anything.

Who really cares? If someone doesn't like either of the two main parties and happens to like one of the third parties, I don't see why it's a big deal if they vote for them. The point of voting is to try and get someone YOU like in the white house. If you happen to like a third party more than the others, you vote for them. It's not about "who can I vote for to prevent such and such from getting into office". I mean arguably Hillary is just as racist and whatever as you say Trump is. Not that I actually like Trump, but I have not heard him say one racist thing.

As always, I mean this respectfully. But this seemed to be more of a spiel to vote for Hillary than anything. Personally I've just detached myself from the election. It's absurd and pathetic that these are the two options. My dead dog is more trustworthy. And the fact that there's nothing a lot of the unhappy people can do about it shows how little weight we have. I also think this post/thread fails to recognize another tremendous issue. The issue of people not voting at all. www.statisticbrain.com/presidential-election-voter-statistics/There's a million other articles that can be easily found with statistics and whatever. Voters should vote. And when they do, they should vote for who they think will be the best president. Not by political party identification or who can flash the best smile.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm not American. I'm involved in global politics, but forgive me for any mistakes I make when it comes to your voting system.
It seems to me that you should vote for whoever you want as president. Your vote isn't about who you don't want for president but who you do want. The two party does seem as though it'd make strategic voting more viable, but to someone who's grown up with something totally different, voting for anyone you really do not want as head of state seems ridiculous. If you don't want Trump or Hillary as president, don't vote for them. That does not (or should not, I'm a little iffy on US elections in this area) mean that your vote is wasted or thrown away or that it doesn't count. It just counts towards something far less likely to win than Hillary or Trump. The third party candidate you may vote for can still become president, they are allowed to run and, thus, should enough people vote for them, they will. That being said, it is extremely unlikely, but I absolutely believe that it's not a wasted vote. In fact, I think that if people stopped calling it a wasted vote, which would lead to more people casting their vote on someone they actually want to lead, the US voting system would be a whole lot fairer as there would be more parties running in a way that has a reasonable probability of leading to a presidency. But that's just the opinion of a European who has no understanding of the finer workings of US elections.

You should think critically about who is the best person running for the job and who has a good chance to get into the white house. and I'm sorry what? Trump called Mexicans a whole host of terrible things and said we should build a wall. He's talked very badly against refugees and even in the first debate he said he didn't have a good relationship with African Americans. In fact he had an apartment complex that he specifically barred African American's from living in. He wants to deport all immigrants. If that isn't racist then I don't know what is. I haven't heard Hilary say anything racist but it hasn't been talked about in the media recently, I did hear her however, during the first debate discuss her plans to fix the flaws in the police system that have been causing non-white people to die and get imprisoned unfairly as opposed to how a white person gets treated. I don't know how good this is bc I'm white so I don't have much say in how effective the plan is but I haven't heard Trump say anything to address the problem. I never said I was going to be unbiased because my life, wellbeing and happiness reside on this election. This is my opinion on third party voting if you want to talk about people who aren't voting period then make your own thread because people do need to learn about that as well. All the posts I've seen on this forum show an attitude of "I'm voting for me". Of course that's what it is, and what it should be. It's an individual voting for who he/she thinks will be the best president. If someone votes because they think their right or beliefs will be endangered, that's a pretty damn good reason. If they vote because they think a candidate will put the country in a better place than the other, another good reason. People tend to have an expectation that things will suddenly change and either fall apart or become dandy when a new president is sworn in. And every time, people are always disappointed. It's just how it is.

I'm just saying that if someone votes third party because they think that person would make a better president than one of the majorities, I really don't see the problem. Or if you feel morally wrong voting for either Trump or Hillary, then voting third party is a suitable option. But building a wall isn't really a bad thing? Because there are tons of people waltzing through the border every day and nothing is done about it. Illegal immigrants are allowed to stay here with no repercussions. When you break the law, there are consequences, but why is it that illegals don't get that? I haven't heard about the apartment thing but I didn't watch the debates because it's usually the candidates just spouting insults at each other xD And he in fact doesn't want to deport all immigrants. Just the illegal ones. And he wants to make the system for becoming a citizen and getting int he country legally more sound. Because with all of the terrorist activity, we need to keep our country safe. What do you mean about the non-whites and the police? The small handful of cases where that happens is nothing. Of course there are going to be corrupt cops. You can't avoid that, unfortunately. But a lot of the cases where cops were supposedly "corrupt" were actually not the case. A lot of the cases were them actually trying to apprehend a criminal, not an innocent non-white. So as far as that, I don't really even see an issue there. Th only problem with that is people voting isn't the only part of the election process. Our votes don't really count. It just tells the electoral College what the people want and then they vote on our behalf for the president. The campaign before the election is basically the candidates not only winning our votes but also electoral votes from the college. That's why third party candidates don't get elected, because they don't get electoral votes, which is what determines who is president. Now there have been cases where the popular voted candidate Does NOT become president, bc every state has a different amount of electoral votes. I'm not saying that we shouldn't try to change the system, but it isn't going to happen less than a month before the election, so that's why I'm saying this.

The Noble Dragon This is more or less related to your thread. But do you ever get the feeling that all of this is just kinda fake? I think it's a safe bet most people aren't happy with their choices. Trump represents the stereotypical sleazy businessman who's morals come across as nonexistent. Hillary smirks cockily at everything and avoids giving direct answers and explanations at all costs. You said you were worried about Trump becoming president because he's bad news for lgbt+, which I can't disagree with :/. But what exactly do you think will happen if he does get elected?

Like if someone genuinely likes the candidate, they can vote for them. It may not make a difference, but at least it's people are voting for who they think is qualified and not by popular opinion. Obviously this campaign a lot of people are going third party because they hate the majority, but I don't think most of the time it's an issue.

Is that what you meant or was I interpreting that incorrectly? Both candidates have a lot of dirt, but to say one is racist and the other isn't while both of them has said racist things isn't correct. no you're fine I totally get that. It's good that you're passionate about it! Shows that you want to do something to make the world better and that's a good thing. Too many people are not doing anything. I just happen to think Hillary will make it worse than Trump. ok but in regards to the immigration thing: he wants to build a wall, but he wants to make immigration easier? so which is it?? wouldn't only one of those things be necessary w/o the other??

It's good that you're passionate about it! Shows that you want to do something to make the world better and that's a good thing. Too many people are not doing anything. I just happen to think Hillary will make it worse than Trump. Ignoring the rest of it because I really don't want to get very angry right now but.... HOW will Hillary make things worse? I hear a lot of people saying that but I've never heard a reason. I've stated my reasoning for why I think Trump would be the worst president ever and I don't mind saying it again but how? I really want to know. shoot I'm sorry I don't want to make you angry D: I have nothing against you, I'm just stating my opinions. I just think Hillary is super dangerous. She's two-faced and known for being a liar and I think that's not a good thing to have as a president. Plus there are a lot of things she's said that would make problems worse, such as ignoring the problems in the middle east and even contributing to them with no repercussions. The fact that she has hundreds of classified emails suddenly disappear when people are interested in them just screams that she's doing something really bad under the radar. She's a snake and snakes cannot be trusted. Plus there was one thing she said where cyber attacks would be treated as real attacks with the military and police handling it just seems like really totalitarian? Like I can understand genuine threats, but if someone just says "go kill yourself" I mean that's someone just being stupid like? A lot of her policies seem very dictatorship. At least with Trump, people expect him to do stupid things so they'll keep a better eye on him lol

Yes it does feel fake.
and honestly I have no idea because he is such a wild card of a person. But I do know that he is going to get to choose like 4 supreme court judges that are going to have a say in what is constitutional for the next 30-60 years since it is a life long job. I know he has threatened to jail Hillary when he becomes president(something that dictators do). He's asked multiple times why we can't use nuclear launch codes. Has stated that he would have invaded the middle east to claim the oil(and then lied saying he never said that). I haven't actually heard anything about his policies. He said that avoiding paying taxes makes him smart even when it is incredibly illegal. And if he doesn't do something then his VP Mike Pence will. I know VP probably can't do much but we've all forgotten that HE chose the VP which showed a very clear stance on his views of us.
I know I have seemed extremely biased by not posting some of the bad things Hillary has done but, all of the things I've posted about Trump have been things off the top of my head that I know for a fact, I haven't had to look stuff up. I'd look stuff up for Hillary but I don't have time or patience to do so because I have homework to do and can't fact-check. So I apologize for that.

i never said Clinton wasn't racist. I'm sure as hell she is. but to say "Clinton's racist af and Trump has never said anything like that in his Whole Entire Pure and Good Life" buddy do i have some news for u reddit.com/r/EnoughTrumpSpam/comments/4r2yxs/a_final_response_to_the_tell_me_why_trump_is/?client=safari no I'm not saying Trump is completely innocent, I'm saying that they're both racist, so pulling the "he's racist" card is irrelevant.
