"Dangerous?" Talltalon's claws extended, the sharp and gruff tom looking up at Cedarstar with a look of both concern and anger. With his kits still new and young, he was instantly worried about the threat of some new danger. "So this... thing, just waltzed into our land and waltzed back out? Are we sure it wasn't a dog, or a badger?"
"If Rustlepaw and Cedarstar both could not recognize the scent, or Kinkfire, Lynxdapple and Stormcloud, then it surely can't be a dog or badger." Spiderfang reminded the older tom firmly, her eyes glinting with determination. "That must mean we just have a new obstacle to overcome. Shadowclan's faced worse than a prey-mauling wanderer, we'll keep our guard up."
"Why is Starclan punishing us like this?" Snakesong whispered shakily to Smokestorm, looking at her mate as her tooth poked from her muzzle. "Haven't we suffered enough? What if this thing gets one of the kits?" She felt her ears fall.

"Maybe it isn't that bad?" Smokestorm lightly shrugged at his mate. "It could be some...rabid rabbit...or something."

Leopardshadow wrapped her tail around her kits nervously from her spot outside the nursery. What else besides a badger could have done that?
Stormcloud sat down next to Kinkfire, “It didn’t smell like a badger or a dog. It was fouler than either them.” He commented, wrapping his tail around his paws.

Snakesong chuckled nervously, eyes flitting to the side as she flicked her tail. "It must be a pretty powerful rabbit then." She looked around at their clanmates, before she murmured to her mate. "Do you think that the other clans might have something to do with it?"

Talltalon gave a light growl of nerves, but sat back down and waited for Cedarstar to continue. He glanced back at the nursery, eyes flashing with worry as he noticed Leopardshadow curling her tail tightly around Beekit, Skullkit and Vulturekit. The thought of any of them being in danger made his mind rush with panic. Odd smells were always worrying. He had scented so many new things when he and Ravenpaw had been taken by Twolegs. Thinking of his former apprentice made his chest ache, and he missed her fiercely all over again. Leaffrost seemed to be poking her nose around camp, brushing past clanmates as her eyes danced with confusion. Where did Lightkit and Longkit go? They had just been playing earlier, she had watched them playing hide and seek. The sudden news from Cedarstar correlated in her mind, though her odd mind didn't feel fear so much as she felt an instinctive hollowness. She was sure of it. Lightkit and Longkit somehow got out of camp. "Cedarstar?" Leaffrost called up, ears waving from lifted to flat. "I'm going to need to go on a patrol right now, I think. Lightkit and Longkit, they're not here! I can't find them, and they were just here a short while ago!"

Cedarstar blinked in surprise at Leaffrost's call. Two kits were out of camp?! How could he let that happen?! He didn't get the chance to say anything before Ratmask was shoving forward to his mate's side.
"I'll lead the patrol!" Ratmask's ears pinned back in betrayal of his guilt. He look at his mate in apology. He should've been helping watch out for them.
"We'll send multiple patrols." Cedarstar nodded curtly to Ratmask. "Ratmask, Leaffrost, Rustlepaw and I will go with you. We'll see if we can track their scent. Stormcloud take Oakstalk and Russetshade and head toward Fourtrees. Tumblefoot, Lynxdapple, and Oakfall head toward the ThunderClan, SkyClan territories. Vixenflame, take Burninghope, Houndthroat, and Robinflight and check the WindClan border and back border--Be careful out there. That's we discovered the prey mauler." Cedarstar jumped down from Clan Rock. "We need to find these kits before any harm comes to them. Let's go!"

Lynxdapple moved quickly, eyes darting around before he spotted his son Oakfall, and Tumblefoot. "It could be really bad, if they run into whatever it was we scented. We have to move quickly." The small tom fretted, his usual humor replaced with seriousness.
Leaffrost paced in a circle before she looked at Ratmask with a knowing look. She shook her head softly, silently telling him that she held no blame for him. Surely Lightkit and Longkit had just learned too well from them to be stealthy. If she wasn't so curious as to where they had gone, she would have found pride in their ability to sneak away like a shadow. She gave Cedarstar a nod of appreciation, before Rustlepaw weaved her way through the crowd of cats.
"If I can catch their scents, I know I can follow it really well. They were my denmates for a long time. I know them closer than most." Rustlepaw nodded, though it was clear there was worry in her voice for her niece and nephew.
Burninghope padded towards Vixenflame, greeting her friend with a quick nod. She looked at Houndthroat and Robinflight with a flick of her tail. "They couldn't have gotten too far, right?"
Spiderfang bristled with concern, looking at her daughter as she prayed her grandkits weren't out there in any danger. Starclan, kits always had to give the clan heart attacks, didn't they? She stepped aside as Talltalon instantly made a beeline for the nursery to make sure his own kits were still there with their mother.
Snakesong's eyes widened with horror. "Oh no, not the kits! They'll be okay, right? They have to be!"

"Let's hope they don't wander on to the thunderpaths either." Tumblefoot nodded in agreement with Lynxdapple. He glanced at Oakfall before hurrying out of the camp to the ThunderClan/SkyClan borders.
Cedarstar nodded to Rustlepaw. He wanted her tagging along for her heightened sense of smell. "Don't worry, Leaffrost, Ratmask, we'll find them." He started for the camp entrance. Ratmask trailed quickly behind.
"How could I be so mouse-brained." Ratmask shook his head as followed after Cedarstar. "My own kits...I didn't even...I knew they were too clever for their own good. If they..." He flattened his ears and fear skipped his heart. "I'll be my fault..."
"They're kits so I wouldn't think so." Houndthroat lasted his tail in response to Burninghope was it was more in worry for the kits than anger toward anyone. "But they're also Ratmask's and Leaffrost's kits. I've watched them play, they're smart."
"Surely." Smokestorm stood up and watched the patrols head out. He wished he could be on one. "They're ShadowClan kits, they're tough enough to survive anything. The patrols will find them." He looked around the camp. "Come on. There's no way they got through the camp entrance, so they had to find another way out. If we find it, we can patch it up so none of the other kits can sneak out."
Closesky stood up and flattened his ears hearing of the missing kits. He wished he was a warrior again to help find them. "Kits sneaking out..." he muttered softly. "That hasn't happened since Scorchfire was a kit."
Palepaw and Whorlpaw watched their sister, both a little jealous that she got selected to help find the kits, but both knowing she was the best one out of the three of them for the task. "Good luck!" Whorlpaw called.
Longkit carefully peeked around a heap of junk in the carrionplace. His eyes narrowed in searching for a rat for them to catch.

Lynxdapple felt his stomach drop at the thought of Lightkit or Longkit running into the Thunderpath, or being struck by a monster. He rushed out of camp in a quick sprint.
"My dearest." Leaffrost mewed softly to her mate as they started on their way. "They were stealthy enough to escape my eyes as well. So at the very least, you don't get to have all the blame. Even that, I won't let you do alone." She promised, before lifting her muzzle. "Lightkit! Longkit! Hide and seek time is over! Come out, and we'll go have a nice frog! Doesn't that sound good?" She called, trying to hear if they were nearby.
"A little bit too smart if you ask me." Burninghope breathed, knowing that both Leaffrost and Ratmask were well known in the clan for their quick wits and cleverness. As odd as Ratmask looked with his patchy skin and fur, she had trained beside Lilywhisper and realized just how intelligently she had been trained by the tom. It made her fear for the kits though, as their thirst for curiosity may be dangerous.
"Right. The best we can do is make sure it doesn't happen again." Snakesong nodded, grateful for her mate's calmness in any situation, and his ability to ground her nerves. She followed after him and began to scan her eyes along the long walls of camp.
Honeypaw's ear flicked as he sat beside Whorlpaw. Lightkit and Longkit were missing, and now an odd and dangerous scent was within Shadowclan borders. He worked at the grass beneath his paws, eyes narrowing as he mewed quickly and quietly to Whorlpaw. "I have a dreadful feeling. Not to mention Coalpaw and Ashrock are still clearly out of camp, and now so are the kits. With this dangerous new scent, it's not looking promising."
Lightkit looked at the piles of Carrion with wonder, her eyes wide. "Woah! Look at all this weird stuff! Do twolegs really use all this? That looks like papa's pelt!" She looked at a patchy carpet hidden under a few mounds of crowfood. She quickly quieted her voice though, realizing she was probably being too loud.

(Do we want to take Tumble's patrol to the border page?)
Ratmask wanted to be grateful for his mate's response, but he just looked miserable. Pouncefire, Brightmask, Aurablaze, and Marshsong...their deaths are all my fault. He looked around frantically when they left the camp, hoping to spot tracks of his kits. StarClan, don't be so cruel to take Longkit and Lightkit as well.
Cedarstar flicked his ear twice as he watched Ratmask and Leaffrost. He had to admit, he was a little surprised by Ratmask's response. Cedarstar always saw him so distant with his kits. He never seemed like he cared. Yet, now, it was clear to Cedarstar that Ratmask wasn't thinking straight. Cedarstar stepped forward to herd Ratmask and Leaffrost back toward the walls of the camp. "They wouldn't have come out the main entrance. We should search the outer walls for any gabs they could've slipped through." Cedarstar looked at his apprentice. "Let us know immediately if you pick up their scent before us."
"Right..." Ratmask nodded to Cedarstar. The outer walls. He should've known that. "You're right."
Houndthroat nodded in agreement with Burninghope. "Let's get going." (To the border page?)
Smokestorm padded over to the camp entrance to start there. He lowered his head as much he could to try and find any gaps in the base of the camp wall.
Whorlpaw blinked in surprise at Honeypaw. "With all the commotion, I completely forgot about Coalpaw and Ashrock." She stood up. "We should go warn them. They need to know what's happening."
Longkit gave his sister a sharp look at the loudness of her voice, but calmed when she quieted. "We can't get distracted, Lightkit. We need to find a rat so we can lure out a vulture."

(Sure!)
"I won't let you down." Rustlepaw nodded at her mentor's words, quickly getting to work by lowering her head down and carefully picking through the scents that hit her nose. She could smell her clanmates of course, as well as the slightly stale scent of the kits. Leaffrost said they had been playing near the walls after all. She tried to seek out the freshest scent of them.
"I'm trying to think of anything they would want to sneak out for..." Leaffrost hummed as she carefully searched along the wall. "Maybe they were chasing a lizard, or wanting to see the pine trees. But they're not calling back to me, so I think they're definitely out farther."
Snakesong sighed softly as she inspected the walls, already seeing more gaps than she hoped. "It looks like we've missed a few spots in our last restoration of the walls. The fire destroyed so much of camp, it took so long for enough to grow back to create any kind of wall again..."
Honeypaw nodded once, inwardly grateful that he had a competent companion in Whorlpaw. He had learned over the last moons that her optimism was not born of ignorance, no, rather it was a product of her determination to do what was right, and to help the Clan. The golden tom padded quickly towards the entrance of camp and murmured. "We can keep an eye out for Longkit and Lightkit too. I know we'll have to catch Ashrock and Coalpaw's scents out here sooner or later."
"I know, I know." Lightkit puffed, before she quickly crouched and stalked quietly around one of the Carrionpiles. She froze as she heard a high pitched noise, and a rustle of the crowfood bags. A familiar scent hit her muzzle and she nearly bristled with excitement. She hurriedly motioned with her tail for Longkit to come over to her and make sure she was smelling correctly. There was a rat in there!

Ratmask glanced back at his mate. What would they sneak out for? "Longkit always had a bitter look when he watched the other kits..." Ratmask kept searching. "Perhaps..." Ratmask sighed. "He does not feel adequate..." Another thing that is my fault...
Cedarstar quietly listened to the patrol as he scanned the outer wall for holes.
"We should leave markers to indicate the places that need repairs." Smokestorm dug into the ground a bit near a gap in the wall. "That way we and other repair groups can come back to them." He frowned when he found a spot where he could see clear to the other side of the wall. "StarClan, leafbare makes the walls so thin..."
Palepaw eyed his sister and Honeypaw. He sighed with light annoyance. The young tom didn't like what Ashrock was doing at all, but he supported his sister. "I'll cover for you two. You better sneak out. I can see Kinkfire insisting a warrior go with you with the Prey Mauler out there."
Whorlpaw smiled softly at her brother. "Thanks, Palepaw." She darted quickly after Honeypaw.
Longkit approached his sister when he caught her signals. He perked up when he scented the rat and slid his claws out when he spotted the rustling. "Alright," he whispered. "We'll take it together." He smiled at Lightkit. He didn't want either one of them to take it on their own. Not because he didn't believe they could handle killing a rat solo, but because he wanted both of them to share equal amounts of glory in catching the rat and securing a vulture.

"But he is a brilliant, wonderful little tom." Leaffrost mused, an inquisitive tilt of her head signifying her inability to understand why Longkit would feel such a way. "He has nothing to fear from other kits, he knows that he and Lightkit are more special than anything!...Right?" She asked, looking thoughtful for a moment before her muzzle scrunched lightly as her mind started to wander all over the place, making her head hurt. "Well, once we find him, I will tell him he is the most adequate kit in the Clan."
Rustlepaw felt her ears fall ever so slightly. She of course could never see if any cat was looking at her, but she did remember Longkit having a reservation in his voice, how secluded he and Lightkit seemed to be sometimes. Maybe Ratmask was right, maybe the younger tom did feel inadequate. It was hard not to, when you felt like you were different.
"Oh. Good idea." Snakesong nodded quickly, looking around for a few moments before she perked up and spotted a few pinecones. She dashed off to collect some, quickly returning to place them right into the holes where her mate had dug the gaps. "Pinecone means repair. Pretty clever." She purred.
"I owe you one, Palepaw." Honeypaw called back in a rare show of appreciation to the other tom, before he turned back to keep pace with Whorlpaw as he motioned lightly. "We can slip out quickly. Hopefully it should not take too long to locate them. Coalpaw can only keep quiet for so long, after all."
"Always together." Lightkit giggled, nudging her brother warmly, before she gave an inquisitive look and nodded. "Oh! Maybe if you go to one side, and I go to the other, it won't have anywhere to run!" Her nose was clogged with the scent of rat and Carrion, enough that she did not register the faint scent of something else, something unknown amongst the Carrionplace.

Ratmask padded over to Leaffrost and pressed against her. She so wonderfully saw the good in their kits. She didn't see what he saw. "I don't think he does," he mewed softly.
Cedarstar paused in listening to Ratmask and Leaffrost. He worried for his own kits. Did Palepaw, Whorlpaw, and Duskpaw ever feel inadequate? He wasn't spending as much time with them as he used too. Cedarstar shook his head. His kits weren't the priority right now, Ratmask's and Leaffrost's were. "If they're feeling inadequate..." Cedarstar scanned the outer wall again. "Then they must be trying to prove themselves. Have either of you noticed if Longkit or Lightkit have been practicing specific things these past couple days?" Longkit and Lightkit were clever which told Cedarstar they would've made a plan before sneaking out of the camp.
Smokestorm purred. "That's perfect, Snakesong, we can pass that along to everyone else when we're done."
"They wouldn't train at the Burnt Sycamore." Whorlpaw slowed when they neared the camp entrance. She idly glanced about to see if any of the warriors were watching. "The Burnt Sycamore is too obvious. They would've gone somewhere no one would suspect to train."
Longkit nodded. "Great plan." He pointed off with his nose. "You go that way. I'll go this way. When you're ready, raise your tail to signal. I'll raise mine too then we'll both attack."

Specklefoot In the nursery She lay curled around her two young kits lovingly as she lapped at their foreheads. She had hopes that one day the two would become great warriors, and make her proud. She often had dreams of them training together as apprentices, and it brought her great comfort. Midnightkit pressed against her belly, licking her gently. Specklefoot let out a soft chuckle.

Specklefoot in the nursery Specklefoot watched over her kits as they tumbled around the nursery, batting at each other with their tiny paws and chasing each other's tails. She purred with contentment as she watched them play, feeling a sense of pride and love for her little ones. As the kittens grew more adventurous, Specklefoot began to follow them around, making sure they didn't get into any trouble. As the day wore on, the kittens grew tired from all their playing and exploring. They curled up together underneath their mother's warm belly, and she began purring softly as she watched over them. She was grateful for her little family, and she knew that she would do anything to keep them safe and happy.

I’m always proud when they show me, they learn so fast.” Leaffrost admitted, looking at Ratmask and Cedarstar with a confused tilt of her head. They were always doing so well… did Longkit truly feel like he was inadequate? No kits could have made her prouder. She flicked her ears. “This is my fault. I think that I did not see this earlier, a mother should know these things… but when we find them, we’ll let them know they are perfect as they are.” She decided. Snakesong felt her pelt warm at the praise, and she cast her mate a shy look of warmth as she continued to work. Honeypaw thought long and carefully before he blinked with deep thought. “Hm. If I was looking to train in secret, I would go out towards the marshes, the scents are harder to track and the grasses muffle sounds from afar. Shall we start there?” “I hear you loud and clear, Longstar.” Lightkit giggled, letting her brother be leader this time as she crouched low, trying to remember exactly what Honeypaw and Whorlpaw had shown them. She began to slowly move around the pile, though her wobbly legs made her less silent than she imagined she was being.

(I think some cats are currently searching for Lightkit and Longkit, but I have some open in camp. Kestrelgaze is Crystalpaw's mentor, I could rp her!) Crystalpaw flicked her tail, worry in her pale eyes as she thought of Lightkit and Longkit being out on the territory by themselves. Surely the patrols would find them, though it was the weird scent and crowfood that Rustlepaw had found that made her most concerned. A scent that not even Cedarstar himself knew? What could that mean?

Crystalpaw jumped a bit, before calming herself down. She was one of the oldest apprentices, she shouldn't be so jumpy. Shaking her head, she admitted. "Just a little unnerved, I guess. Lightkit and Longkit could be out there anywhere but... that thing, that Cedarstar talked about. The odd scent, and the crowfood. What if it's still out there?" She looked at her mentor. "I'd like that." Crystalpaw nodded quickly. She knew that Honeypaw was out looking for Coalpaw, and she had inwardly already guessed what their brother was doing, sneaking out to train with Ashrock. She kept quiet about it though, not wanting to get Coalpaw in trouble. At least by doing this, she could focus on helping to find the kits, hopefully before whatever was out there could find them. She looked at Kestrelgaze gratefully and nodded. "Maybe we could check near the marshes?"
