Stonesong looked at him. “Cedarstar still won’t let you leave the medicine cat den?” She asked him. Hollowpool felt her fur grow warm at the compliment. “No I’m not.” She spoke. “You’re just trying to flatter me.” She nudged him. "I am doomed to be a medicine cat for life, it seems." Ashrock rolled his eyes. "If I ever get out of there, you'll have to remind me what real warriors actually do." "It's the truth!" Frogleap smiled at her. "I heard Closesky say it once! He thinks you're almost as good as my grandfather!"

Ashrock nodded in agreement. "I'm just thankful that leafbare is coming to a close. We're even running out of herbs in the medicine den." "I bet you brought the biggest prey back." Frogleap chuckled and rubbed against her. "You're one of the best hunters in the Clan." Whorlpaw flicked her ear at the mention of Coalpaw and a light pout tilted her lip downward. "I heard my father say he wanted Coalpaw to train with the other mentors, but he hasn't joined any of mine or even my siblings' training sessions. Do you know if he's training with anyone?" "I just want you back," Ratmask sighed lightly, but he just felt pure misery. THe warrior's den wasn't the same without Leaffrost. It was colder for one and he knew how his clanmates felt about him. Longkit flicked his ear and pouted in Lightkits direction. He quickly looked around again, there had to be a way out of this without getting caught. He quietly nudged a few brambles aside and tried crawling along the base of the medicine den's boulder. Maybe he could sneak past his sister and go to his usual hiding spot by the elder's den? He flattened his ears when his fur got snagged on a bramble, but determination pushed him on. Eaglesight nodded slowly. "You'll see Hiddendream in StarClan after your life in the ShadowClan is done. Hiddendream isn't as tall as I am, but she was definitely sneakier. Her pelt blended with the shadows, but she had ginger and white specks all over her that gave the trick of light. She could sneak right up behind a ThunderClan cat and they wouldn't even know she was there." Honeypaw gave a conflicted look, suddenly seeming frustrated. "He has to be. Coalpaw has somehow been progressing faster than even I could anticipate, in such a short amount of time. Yet each time I come back to camp with Oakstalk, he is doing his camp duties and practicing new moves on his own. I saw him talking to Vixenflame earlier. Do you suppose she is assisting him?" He inquired, though he wondered how she would be teaching him so much so quickly. "It will not be long now." Leaffrost promised. "They're nearly of age, and they'll become apprentices just like we did. No more cramped nurseries or Leaffrost baths." She giggled, swishing her tail. "Just you and me, again. I think, love, that two kits is all we'll need. I don't like being in different dens, even if I love our little shadows. Two is perfect, don't you say?" She mewed, knowing that she wanted to be doing fun Warrior duties with him again. Lightkit squirmed her way through the undergrowth, able to finally reach where Longkit had clearly just been. She sniffed the ground and puffed. "Oh you slippery slug! I was so close! Where'd you go?" She pushed her belly to the ground and began to pick a gap, hoping it was the one Longkit chose. Flowerkit listened with bright eyes, looking over at his sister for a second before he purred. "She sounds like she looks like Grovekit a little! She had to be the sneakiest cat ever!" "Not as sneaky as me!" Grovekit decided, competitive to a tee. "We could ask Vixenflame." Whorlpaw tilted her head curiously. "Now that I think about it. I saw Coalpaw practicing a move earlier that Stormfury hasn't even taught me. It looked pretty advanced." Ratmask gave her a thoughtful look. She didn't want anymore kits beyond Lightkit and Longkit? From his observations, queens always wanted more kits beyond their first litter. He had to admit, he was relieved to hear her say that. He didn't want to bring anymore lives into the world only to ruin them. "That sounds perfect to me." It didn't take long for Lightkit to find him. Longkit had given up. He tried to squeeze through too tight a hole in the brambles and his thin pelt was snagged and tangled that he couldn't free himself. Instead, he just laid flat on the ground, pouting and grumbling to himself until he knew his sister would find him and help him out of his predicament. Eaglesight purred softly. "She does look a little like Grovekit and I know it'll thrill her when the two of you surpass even her skills."

Coalpaw has an uncanny ability to hide things better than you would expect. I get a feeling that something is off. My intuition is rarely wrong." Honeypaw mused, suddenly very concerned about his brother. He glanced at Whorlpaw. "If he's learned moves that you have not learned when he started training again after you had caught up...Hm..." "You sound perfect to me." Leaffrost quirked with a little smile of mischief. "Oh, how I miss our fun little pranks and schemes. We make the smartest duo, don't we?" She purred, remembering their kithood and apprenticeship days fondly. Lightkit cackled as she finally caught up to her brother, only to stop and give a worried look as she pushed her way towards him. "Longkit! Are you stuck? Did you get hurt? I'll help you! Hold on!" She promised, pushing her way towards the brambles as best as she could. "I wish I looked like someone important." Flowerkit admitted softly, though the small moment of pleading was interrupted by a small giggle as Grovekit pressed her paws into Flowerkit's hide and nudged him onto his belly to wrestle with him.

"Where is he now?" Whorlpaw stood to her feet and smiled. "We could at least ask him how he learned those moves."
Ratmask chuckled lightly. "Do you remember when we got that bee hive down?"
Longkit kept his ears pinned to his head--more embarrassed than anything. "I'm stuck," he stated bluntly. The brambles poked at his skin, but other than that he was fine.
"It doesn't matter who you look like," Eaglesight smiled softly as the kits wrestled. "Sometimes looking like someone else implies a lot of pressure that shouldn't weigh you down. As long as you remember you're your own cat."

Honeypaw mewed, always keeping a sharp eye on all the buzz of activity in camp when he could. "How could I ever forget? You were brilliant, and the whole clan was so impressed when we brought the entire hive back for Snowdance." Leaffrost purred, the memory one of her fondest. "I already loved you by then, but I just fell deeper and deeper. You look so perfect, when you get to use that mind of yours." She admitted. "Stupid brambles!" Lightkit huffed. "Always ruining our fun! You were super sneaky this time. I almost couldn't find you, I only did because you sneezed." She admitted, though she quickly focused on helping her brother. She pushed her small paws at the brambles, tongue poking out as her muzzle creased with focus. "Lemme just... pull this one right here!" Flowerkit looked up from his spot, now flat on the ground as his sister squished herself right on top of him. He didn't seem bothered by her closeness, instead giving Eaglesight a thoughtful look before he smiled. "Okay! I'm Flowerkit! That's who I can be then." He decided. "I'm Grovekit." Grovekit butted in, always having to compete. "But I'll be Grovestar soon!"

"I didn't see him in the apprentice den." Whorlpaw glanced back toward their den. "What about with the elders? Maybe he's doing chores?"
Ratmask flicked his ear and looked away from his mate, actually feeling a bit flattered by her words. Every cat in the Clans knew he didn't look perfect. He was missing half his fur after all. "I couldn't have done it without you, Leaffrost."
"My sneeze was the fault of the brambles too," Longkit huffed. He tried pulling forward when he felt Lightkit pull a few brambles free. He managed a step, but was still stuck. "I guess this just proves that the warriors can really build a bramble wall."
"Grovestar?" Eaglesight chuckled with a purr. "That's a mighty tall ambition, young one. But you know, I know you can be anything you set your mind too." He smiled at Flowerkit too. "You too, Flowerkit."

Blinking blearily, Fuzzypaw emerged from the apprentice's den with a stifled yawn. She was tired out from night hunting with Whorlpaw and the others. She arched her back in a deep stretch, tail curling in delight.
She sat to the side, giving a lazy wave of her tail to where Whorlpaw and Honeypaw were talking.

Cedarstar stretched in his nest. For once, his dreams didn't haunt him. Instead, he felt he was living the training sessions of the blind tom and his moon-printed sister. Each one gave him new ideas to try with Rustlepaw and for once, they weren't ending in darkness. It made him hopeful. Perhaps, StarClan was sending these dreams to help him train Rustlepaw? Maybe the dark part of them was just his doubts getting in the way? His burns were healed, though the scarred skin still ached when he stretched and it felt strange to clean them and feel no fur through his tongue. Though, he supposed this was how Ratmask must feel with his thin fur.
Cedarstar stood up from his nest and shook out his pet before slipping from his den. Cloudscar should have already decided the patrols for today. Prey was returning. No clans were challenging their hold on Fourtrees, so Cedarstar saw no harm in taking out Rustlepaw this morning--he was pretty eager to try out the new training technique from his dream last night. After glancing once around the camp to be sure he wasn't needed, Cedarstar headed over to the apprentice den. He nodded to his daughter in greeting when he spotted her talking to Honeypaw and she smiled back at him.
"Good morning, Fuzzypaw." Cedarstar kindly greeted the younger apprentice. "Do you know if Rustlepaw is awake yet?"

He was trying to sneak out to train Coalpaw, going out Stonesong would definitely help him get there. He didn't see the hurt in her knowing about him training his apprentice either, he realized. He trusted her. "If you need my help outside of camp, then how can I say no?" He smiled. "I"m sure that day is coming soon." Frogleap chuckled. "Are you hungry? I heard the night hunt was successful last night."

Honeypaw stood to his paws, wondering himself if Coalpaw was indeed doing chores. Coalpaw always was incredibly selfless when it came to camp duties. He blinked as Cedarstar emerged from his den and greeted them. The older apprentice dipped his head respectfully to his leader. “You made me feel like I could do anything, that day.” Leaffrost admitted. “That my little games could actually do something helpful. I know my head is a little different than everyone else’s, but…” She smiled brightly, beaming at the memory. “That day, I knew I did have a place here. That’s always been the reason you were my favorite. You made me feel like it was okay to be just me. That me being me was the best I could be.” “It’s like they weave their entire souls into these stupid things!” Lightkit huffed, but soon purred with success once her brother was freed. “I guess we’ll be building den walls soon too, huh?” “I like being just Flowerkit. It’s warm in here.” Flowerkit squeaked gently, finally managing to push Grovekit off of him and pawing at his muzzle to get a feather off.

"You're perfect." Ratmask had a bit of sternness in his voice. "There's nothing wrong with you. Besides, you're the only cat in this clan with any sense." Ratmask leaned closer to her. "There's no one like you, Leaf frost, and I love you for who you are." He flicked his ear, realizing he was getting pretty sappy, but he wanted to make sure she knew, because if something happened to her...Ratmask couldn't bear the thought.

"well they do because the clan is important to protect." Longkit shook out his pelt once he was free. He shot his sister a grateful look. He could always count on her. "at least we're getting a close look on how the brambles are woven together." Longkit huffed and looked back up at the brambles. He silently admitted whoever built this part of the wall did a really good job.

She glanced over her shoulder to the entrance of the den, her own fur still ruffled (even more so than usual) from sleep. "I haven't seen her yet, do you want me to wake her? Oh, are you training this morning? Maybe Thistlestalk will take me out, too! He's been talking to Poppyflame a lot lately, I wonder-" she shut her jaws with a quick snap, as if only then remembering she was babbling to the leader of the clan. Nervously, she dipped her head with a small chuckle. "Ah, sorry. I can check if she's awake, if you'd like?"

"That's a good place to start." Honeypaw nodded, glancing back to make sure Whorlpaw was keeping up as he began to saunter towards the elder's den. Closesky always did appreciate apprentices that visited him for training purposes. While Honeypaw had always been content to banter and learn from Oakstalk's stubborn teachings, he knew that Crystalpaw adored getting attention and training from Closesky. Perhaps Coalpaw was doing the same.
"I have the sweetest mate in all of the clans." Leaffrost purred, lifting her paw to cover her muzzle as she giggled into it, leaning into Ratmask's embrace. She flicked her eyes to where she could see Lightkit and Longkit pushing their way out of the woven walls of the Medicine Den. "Looks like the little ones just got out of a little pinch. I'm so happy that they keep eachother safe."
Lightkit shook out her pelt as she looked at her brother. "Right! I bet if we know how to weave the walls real good, we'll get some praise from Cedarstar, or the other senior Warriors. We have to do all we can to be the best of the best!" She decided.
"What do they put in there?" Grovekit tilted her head, prodding at the nest around her, not yet knowing the name of all the stuff she and her brother were sleeping in. New words were exciting, but sometimes there was so much to remember!

She lifted to her paws quickly, stretching her legs as she flicked her ears. "Hello, Fuzzypaw! Oh, thank you for waking me up then! I don't want to keep him waiting for me." She felt a bit embarrassed for sleeping like a log when Cedarstar needed her. With trained pawsteps, she memorized the way out of the apprentice's den and lifted her nose to follow after Cedarstar's scent. "Are we going out training?" She mewed as she padded closer to the scent of her leader, her muzzle faced away from him for a moment before she corrected herself and now faced his direction.

Whorlpaw happily followed after Honeypaw, always one up for a visit to see her grandfather. She purred in happy greeting when she spotted Closesky laying in a path of sunlight outside the elder's den. Though, he appeared restless with the constant flicking of his tail and how he kept looking around the camp. "Hello Closesky!"
"Whorlpaw! Honeypaw," Closesky smiled in greeting. "What a welcome surprise."
Ratmask followed her gaze to their kits. He flicked his ear. They were growing so much. He remembered when they used to be so much smaller. I hope time is kind to them. As long he stayed away from them. Time should be, he determined.
Longkit huffed and shook out his pelt once he was away from the bramble wall completely. "I think we should just settle for being something. It's not like we're precious Duskpaw. Oh so special Rustlepaw. Or that phony Turkeypaw."
"Well, we collect the softest moss for you, the other kits, and the queens to sleep on." Eaglesight gently padded their mossy bedding. "And we fortify the nursery with brambles, branches and thorns to keep intruders from breaking through. Old moss and mud we stuff into the cracks to keep the cold wind and harsh weather from chilling you kits to the bone. It makes the nursery one of the darkest dens in the camp, but that's a good thing. ShadowClan thrives at night. In shadows and darkness we make our home with only the lights of StarClan to guide us."
Cedarstar nodded curtly when Rustlepaw arrived so promptly. That's what he expected from his apprentices. "We are. I want to see how you've been practicing those skills I've taught you. If your navigation has improved, we'll move on to battle training."

You’ll see, Longkit. We’ll be the best Warriors Shadowclan has ever seen. And we don’t need to be super special to be the best.” Lightkit urged, determination and optimism in her honey colored eyes. “We don’t have long anyways, Cedarstar will have to make us apprentices soon!” “I like the dark.” Flowerkit decided simply, burrowing closer to Songbreeze as he squeaked out. “It’s nice here, and Songbreeze is warm.” “I won’t let you down.” Rustlepaw promised, paws itching to get to do some battle training. She wanted to learn to fight so badly, to be able to stand her own in the one aspect of her Warriorhood that she had the biggest doubts in. She flicked her tail. “I’m ready to go. I’ve been practicing my tracking and senses whenever I can!”

"This is no intrusion at all," Closesky reassured with a purr. "But, I'm afraid I haven't seen Coalpaw. I was hoping he'd come clean out our nests later, because I wanted to ask him about his training. I doubt my sons have worked out their frustrations yet."
Longkit huffed. "Yeah, but who are our mentors going to be? I bet I get grumpy and arrogant Houndthroat. He wouldn't want to train me."
Eaglesight purred softly. "I'm glad you like it here. The nursery is meant to make all who are in it feel safe."
Cedarstar chuckled. He always loved the enthusiasm of apprentices. "I'm glad to hear that. Alright, Rustlepaw, I want you to lead the way to the Burnt Sycamore."

"I'm sure he's got a good reason...Thistlestalk is a great mentor!" she mewed. But then her tail flopped into the dirt and she shuffled her paws. "But, um, no. I don't think we're training. I haven't seen him around much."

Palepaw lightly frowned. He didn't believe a mentor should be abandoning their apprentice like this. "Well, I have chore rotation today. You're welcome to help me. If we get done early, we could practice battle moves."

"This is no intrusion at all," Closesky reassured with a purr. "But, I'm afraid I haven't seen Coalpaw. I was hoping he'd come clean out our nests later, because I wanted to ask him about his training. I doubt my sons have worked out their frustrations yet." Longkit huffed. "Yeah, but who are our mentors going to be? I bet I get grumpy and arrogant Houndthroat. He wouldn't want to train me." Eaglesight purred softly. "I'm glad you like it here. The nursery is meant to make all who are in it feel safe." Cedarstar chuckled. He always loved the enthusiasm of apprentices. "I'm glad to hear that. Alright, Rustlepaw, I want you to lead the way to the Burnt Sycamore." "Hmm." Honeypaw hummed as his mind began to whirl, plenty of theories and rather unnerving thoughts filling his head. "Odd. That is also what we were concerned about. I know my brother. He's faulty in how deeply he puts his entire faith into something. It is easy to take advantage of the desire to please that he has. Somehow, Closesky, he is progressing in his training at a rate that is rather curious, considering Ashrock has been confined to the Medicine den for so long...and Coalpaw was never formally assigned a new mentor." He rumbled. "Well, if you get grumpy Houndthroat, I bet you I'll get Smokestorm, and all we'll do is lay in the sun all day!" Lightkit teased, though she quickly shook her head and nudged her brother. "I bet we'll get cool mentors. Like Cloudscar, or Pinefeather!" She bounced, excited at the prospect. "Are you gonna visit us alot?" Grovekit asked abruptly, tilting her head as she looked at her uncle up and down. "Will you bring me nice things? I wanna play with nice things." Rustlepaw nodded quickly, getting right to work situating herself to follow the strong collection of scents that always led to the camp entrance. Having been training for some time now, she was so familiar with camp that she could practically memorize every corner and how it felt under her paws. She focused on tracking towards the Burnt Sycamore though, whiskers low to the ground and tail tapping side to side to guide her away from any obstacles or stones to her sides.

Closesky flicked his tail. "That is curious." He looked around the camp. "I can't say I've noticed him spending any time with other warriors. Perhaps someone is taking him out and not wanting the recognition, or perhaps one of the other apprentices?"
Longkit chuckled lightly. "I suppose if I get Houndthroat and you Smokestorm, at least I'll be training." He then shook his head. "I doubt we get cool mentors like the senior warriors. I haven't even heard any of the warriors talking about wanting to mentor us and I've tried listening in on their conversations."
"I'll visit you two everyday if you'd like," Eaglesight purred softly. "And if I find something nice, I can bring it to you. I can bring you things you can find out in our territory so you get familiar with them."
Cedarstar followed behind Rustlepaw, watching her closely on how she navigated the forest. He was glad to see she felt most comfortable in camp and hoped she'd grow as comfortable with the rest of the territory as well. The blind apprentice in his dreams took a while to get familiar with the territory, he bet he could get Rustlepaw there faster, especially with her drive. He was rather pleased with her methods now. Cedarstar glanced at a pine cone coming up on the path. Something the dream apprentice did often was get so focused on what was immediately around him and where he was going, he forgot to pay attention to further off in the forest and if an enemy patrol or a fox was trying to sneak up on them...Cedarstar quietly picked the pine cone up in his mouth and threw it so it hit nearby trees and fell into a regrowing plant.
