"I want to get out of this blasted den." Ashrock flattened his ears, growing frustrated at the different herbs that laid out before him. Which one was which again? The long one, wasn't that a clovertail or was a comfrey leaf? I was born to be a warrior, not some leaf sniffing medicine cat!"He's not taking too long, he's just busy." Whorlpaw shrugged. "So since i got all my chores done, I figured I'd try to practice." She paused and looked Honeypaw up and down, not to thrilled with the arrogance in his tone. "I'm not sure I want your help, Honeypaw, you could lose your balance and hurt yourself with how swelled your head is." "Which means we didn't catch it." Tumblepaw followed his mentor's gaze up toward the large birds, eyes narrowing in weariness of them. "How inconsiderate of it." Cedarstar kept his ears back and gave Cloudscar a single and firm side-glance. "As worried as I am that the WindClan cats would turn on Stormfury, I share the same concern that Ashrock would turn on us." "I think it's neat in here, sometimes...maybe if I wasn't a warrior apprentice, I could have tried and be a medicine cat. I'm A-Okay thanks to Snowdance and Opalmist." Coalpaw purred gratefully to the two she-cats, before he looked at Ashrock and tipped his head. "Why not ask to be let off? Tell them I feel fine." He offered. "Mentors shouldn't be too busy for their apprentices. If that were the case, nobody would be a mentor because everyone is too busy." Honeypaw huffed sharply, before he took a breath and hid his anger once more. He looked at Whorlpaw. "What you deem as arrogance, I deem as confidence. I guarantee you, when I'm needed, I will be there. All I'm offering is some good moves so you can be a step ahead. Isn't that what clanmates do, since you all want me to be so cooperative?" He hummed. "Right. But. It also means we have something much, much bigger to catch. Tumblepaw, I know a way we can get some prey that can feed a lot of the clan. But it takes an expert amount of patience, focus and accuracy. You've been my apprentice for moons. You've made me proud, and have been with me even when I hesitated before. I think we can do this." Goldberry offered.

"Just because you're doing better, Coalpaw, doesn't mean I'm going to be sent back to my duties." Ashrock gave up on the herbs and padded back over to his apprentice, flicking his ear. "You're forgetting that most of the Clan--mainly Cedarstor-star--think I'm not a trustworthy or honorable warrior."
"Stormfury's out on a patrol, frog-brain. Just because I didn't go with him this one time, doesn't mean he's too busy." Whorlpaw rolled her eyes. "And as for your confidence, there are better ways of portraying it instead of acting so arrogantly." Whorlpaw shook her head. "Just because the Clan wants you to be more cooperative doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it. You'll end up all alone like Houndthroat if you continue like this." She looked him right in the eye. "I don't think I want your help, but thanks for offering, Honeypaw. Mother says that the way you treat cats is more important than all the skills in the forest and I don't like the honey-glazed words that come out of your mouth."
Tumblepaw blinked back at Goldberry in surprise. "Wait a second." He looked up at the vultures. "You think we could catch one of those things?! It's bigger than both of us!"

Do you really think Cedarstar isn't good enough?" He asked quietly, thinking of his own brother. Honeypaw never seemed to know that Coalpaw could tell he always felt like he wasn't good enough. He always wanted to tell Honeypaw that he meant so much to him, that Crystalpaw meant so much to him. He didn't know why Ashrock and Cedarstar didn't seem to feel this way too. Honeypaw blinked once at Whorlpaw's outburst, his blue eyes sparking with anger for a split second, before the burning emotions were crushed back deep within him. He gazed right at her, wondering if she knew he had always been alone, that he wasn't sure he could ever be anything else. But he refused to give her the satisfaction. Spoiled leader's kit, she would never understand. He learned from his own mother, what kind of coldness the clan could have. Ha. And they believed he was the only cat with rotten words to spit? He appreciated her fire though, glad she was strong enough to speak her mind. He mewed. "Impressive, Whorlpaw. You've got quite the fire! Very well then. If that is how you feel. Just don't break your neck trying to do a simple crouch. That would be embarrassing." "That's what the patience and accuracy are for. Big as they are, birds are all the same. Weak necks, light bones and a knack for being unable to strike at you if you aim for the back." Goldberry explained. He mewed. "A few seasons ago, I led patrols that caught vultures for the same reason we should now. This leafbare will only get worse. We need prey."

Many of the cats in ShadowClan are here because Northstar made the decision to trust them. You’re the leader of ShadowClan now Cedarstar. Every cat in this clan looks up to you to be wise, caring, compassionate....among other things.” He glanced at Ashrock. “All of these cats are under your charge now. They’ll never earn your trust if you don’t let them.”

He looked up at the birds, weary, but ready. "What do i need to do?"

Cloudscar kept his voice calm, but his eyes seemed to glaze over as if he was thinking about something from a different time. “We all make mistakes.” He murmured. “I wouldn’t be the cat I am today without Northstar. Perhaps Ashrock would be the same way...if given the chance.”

Had he ever asked Cedarstar how he felt? Had he ever supported him rather than assume he wasn't good enough? The black swirled tom shifted lightly and he mewed. "Sometimes when Honeypaw and Crystalpaw talk to eachother, they're so smart and clever and I feel like I'm not as smart as them. But when I feel that way, Honeypaw comes in and tells me that I could be the dumbest cat in the clan and he'd still be proud to be my brother. Crystalpaw comes and plays games with me, and tells me that I can be whatever I want...Ashrock, I know you don't feel like Cedarstar can do it...but you love him, right?" He asked. Honeypaw flicked his ears, watching her with a rare intrigue before he mewed. "I should hope so. I don't want you waking me up when you twist your paw..." He hesitated, before a more serious and strange look filled his eyes. "Hey. I do mean it when I say that you should have a mentor who makes time for you. I'm not saying Stormfury won't, he seems hardworking enough, but don't take it if he doesn't put into it what you do. Even you deserve more than that, I suppose." He shrugged, feeling a twinge of something in his belly, that he forced away. "First, we need to find a good spot to wait out the feasting." Goldberry slipped forwards towards the Carrionpiles, making sure to keep silent as he padded. He spotted a few of the birds gathered around a dead Raccoon. "They'll be an issue if we jump into a group of them. So we wait for the weakest one to be pushed out of the feeding circle."

Tumblepaw nodded, stalking after his mentor. Goldberry leaned down and mewed quietly. "When we find a spot, we crouch. Silent as the snow, and we wait. We do not shift, we do not overstep. We wait for the prey to come to us. When we do, we strike together. It's not the usual ShadowClan method of independent hunting, but we're still striking silently, like the night, and aiming for the wings and neck. I want you to land the killing blow, Tumblepaw. I want to see how driven you can be to feed your clan." He admitted. He lowered himself to slowly roll some snow into his golden pelt, to blend in better. After all, Tumblepaw's dark pelt could blend with the dark carrion piles, but his golden fur was bright among both the snow and the piles.

Coalpaw gave a pout. "Why do you want Cedarstar to fail so badly? Are you mad because Northstar didn't choose you?" He asked, inwardly desiring for his mentor to talk to him like he was capable of having a mature talk.
Honeypaw snorted. "Makes you really appreciate being ShadowClan, hm? Judging by the stenches from Thunderclan and Skyclan, if I lived there I'd be hairless from ripping my pelt out from the smell." He shuddered at the thought.

"I'm not sure you would even noticed the scent if you lived over there." She snickered in amusement. "If you were in SkyClan you would be too busy falling out of trees." Coalpaw showed a rare moment of ferocity, his eyes flashing and fur bristling as he snapped. "Hey! You don't call him that, you hear me? Honeypaw's not fox-dung!" His voice gained a small shrillness to it in his scolding. His fur flattened quickly and his eyes drooped. "You really act like you want him to. That's all I'm saying." He muttered quietly. "Me? Falling out of trees? They'd have to banish me before I ever set paw up one of their ugly trees, let alone fall out of one." Honeypaw snorted in distaste. He could imagine the sickeningly sweet tree sap scent he smelled on cats at the gathering.

Tumblepaw took a deep breath and nodded. "Ok." He silently stalked around the area of the birds, narrow eyes watching them closely and steps making no noise when they sank into the snow. He kept to the shadows, waiting for the vultures to chase the weaker one away. Goldberry crept silently beside his apprentice. Perhaps if this catch went well, he could see if Cedarstar would allow for a final assessment. He swallowed, pushing to a clear spot and crouching low. Moons of practice and patience made the motion easy, but he hoped Tumblepaw could keep pace. He eyed the vultures, blue eyes hardly blinking as he waited. The wait wasn't a short one. Cold air nipped at the fur, and finally after a while, the group of vultures pecked and squacked a smaller and weaker vulture away from its chance at a bite. The vulture gave a cry in response, but hopped back in defeat, now a good few paces away from the pack.

Cedarstar only nodded curtly. "I should get that patrol together." He looked up at the sky, the night growing long. "It's almost sunrise."
Ashrock rolled his eyes. "Could've fooled me. Look, Coalpaw. I don't want Cedarstor-star to fail. He's my brother."
Whorlpaw twitched her whiskers in amusement. "I think it would be neat to climb a tree. I've seen Cliffheart climb up the thorn walls to knock the snow off of them. I guess I would last longer in SkyClan than you would.
Tumblepaw glanced at his mentor, mimicking his poise as best he could. When the weaker vulture hopped away, the young apprentice's heart skipped a beat. Perhaps he was over eager, perhaps he didn't want to miss the chance, it was hard to tell. He sprang into action, one bound of his long legs clearing him halfway to the bird before he bunched his muscles to spring onto the back of the vulture when it tried to take flight, his time trained skills from climbing in the twoleggedplace being just enough to get him up there. Yet, once on the big bird's back, Tumblepaw felt a moment of panic. He sunk his claws into the bird's feathers, ears flattening back when the vulture wasn't brought down by his weight.
