I'm actually glad that StormxDapple never became canon and that they were just best friends. Another close relationship between two cats of the opposite gender that wasn't a romantic pairing at all, not even a one-sided one (even though the Clan did assume they were mates). I feel like we need more relationships like this, but I do like how there are a few friendships like this at all besides Stormtail and Dappletail.
Then's there's Hollyleaf and Fallen Leaves, but even then their exact relationship is still debatable. Then again, Vicky was still the editor at the time and Kate did say that editor trumps author, so I guess Vicky is the one who's right...? It's just a shame it doesn't seem like either can visit the other if we take her word.
It seems like if there's a really close friendship between a tom and a she-cat, if they don't become mates, then it usually doesn't seem to last very long, so it's nice to see that Stormtail and Dappletail, as well as a few others, were just very good friends for a long time.
