they'll ask for your name (i always give a random name tbh) and ask what's going on. idk i've always been careful not to mention being suicidal and instead used terms like "i feel hopeless" they'll talk you through it and recommend counseling.

Do you think they work?
Sometimes I wonder about them but I feel like if I ever needed it they wouldn't work on me

I don't believe there is a lonely hotline, but you can still call for national suicide hotline if your not actively suicidal I think.

I was once really mad and saw one of those ant-Evolution billboards and called a gospel hotline and spent five minutes telling the guy on the other end what I thought of those billboards. I normally wouldn't do something like that, but as previously mentioned, I was pissed. Ten-second version: "You're wrong, and I don't care, but will you stop it with the billboards? Have they ever done anything?" Not sure if this is relevant, but it was still technically a hotline.
