And until a new contract is made, there will be no teachers. No classes. And thus. No students.
Please keep anyone outside in the cold in your thoughts! They'll be going from 5 am til 8 pm every weekday.

Oh maybe. The state had all summer to cooperate with the teacher union. Did they? No. But then they had the nerve to hand a contract and said: "we're done negotiating." And not only that but they didn't even negotiate. Just hoped the union would sign to avoid strike and students losing their education. They did not accept the offer. And until a new contract is made through negotiations, no faculty will be on 14 campuses and instead will be on the sidewalk picketing.

One of my professors did the same when I was in college - it was the state making changes though, not the school, and he was the only one fortunately. I was not, and still am not, happy about it: paying so much tuition so that I can attend his classes, and he took class time each day to rant about politics (which I think is actually illegal considering we're not a politics field) and then just skipped our classes for a few days to go protest. Can't say I have much sympathy when you're making 100k BEFORE benefits (state colleges release listings of their employee salaries, I checked it) and are complaining that it isn't enough, have your healthcare provided when most other jobs have to pay for it, and boast to the class about how the professors basically would have to commit a felony to lose their jobs.

Yeah. It's our entire faculty and the state system is trying to make them have more class time, more work, less pay, add graduate students in teaching their class, and cut their healthcare. Someone did the math, on one of the proposals teachers would be making less than general manager at McDonalds. But I can't site sources on that, except I know the pay was really reduced. I don't know the specifics of the old to new proposed contracts so I can't say if the professors are being petty. However, I'm about fair education and being fair to my teachers. So I know I'll support them. They have families, kids, lives. I think they should get something equal to their previous contract or negotiate new conditions together. Instead of the team state handing them one last 25-page document and saying: "we're done"

So we're going into the eighth hour of striking with faculty. I've handed out a total of five entire boxes of little ceasars pizza and read over a hundred pages of my book. No contact for negotiations have been set yet.
