Today my mommom was walking her Jack Russell, Marlow, and a neighbor's dog got out of his yard and attacked Marlow. Keep in mind that Marlow is 13 years old, and this dog was not even a year yet. Not to mention it was some sort of Pit mix, so the odds were against her to begin with.
Anyways, this dog beat the CRAP out of her. The dog had her so tight, that the leash my mommom had Marlow on actually RIPPED INTO HER FINGER. So then a friend of the dog's owner came and held the ogre down so my mommom could get Mar.
Once that was taken care of, the "owner" made the dog go inside and didn't even bother to ask my mommom if she or Mar were okay. No apologies. Nothing. Like your dog almost killed someone else's dog and you don't even bother to see if they're okay!? WTF.
Another neighbor, an elderly lady, had seen the whole thing. She told my mommom that this isn't the first time this dog has attacked another pet. Which makes me even more mad! How irresponsible can you be!? People like this are exactly WHY Pits are facing BSL issues! And not to mention, what does this dog have to attack next before someone actually dies!?
We rushed Mar to the Pet Er, and once they were done with her she had SEVEN PUNCTURE WOUNDS. SEVEN. Two had to be stapled from where this dog swung her around in his teeth. Luckily Mar is okay, she's just really sore and scared after this whole ordeal.
Tomorrow we're going to that neighbor's house and demanding that she pays the $200 vet bill from tonight! If she doesn't, we're getting the police involved. I don't want to see this dog be killed, but if the owner won't do anything about it, then we need to make sure no one else is injured. I feel bad for the dog, because the owner doesn't take good care of it (obviously). However I also can't sleep well knowing this animal is a liability to the public and is able to seriously hurt someone.
I love Pits, but I'm sorry. This "owner" and dog need to be dealt with.

That's awful! In my opinion, it's the owner's fault. They aren't training the dogs to be members of a family, they're training them to be guard dogs.

That's awful! In my opinion, it's the owner's fault. They aren't training the dogs to be members of a family, they're training them to be guard dogs. Honestly I think they aren't training them at all. This dog is a terrier breed, and with that comes strict training and daily exercise--especially when they're under a year old. This dog gets none of that, and is instead allowed to be a vicious menace. I don't think it's the dogs fault either. It usually never is. Owners take that responsibility when they get a dog to know how to handle it. They are responsible to keep their dog safe AND others when the dog is involved. If someone can't even do something as simple as that, they don't belong owning one. My dog was very dog aggressive, and I ALWAYS made sure she was contained properly when other dogs were present. I always had control over her when we walked to. She lived with us 11 years and never ONCE hurt someone else's dog. And why is that? Because I loved my dog enough to make sure she was safe, and cared enough about others dogs to keep them safe from her as well. People need to stop being so damn lazy, and actually work with their dogs. Dogs need stability, structure, training, exercise, and so forth. They are not that different from a child. So if you can't even give them that, you have absolutely no business owning one.
