i would recommend looking into the csssa (california state summer school for the arts) program!
i've never been, but i've been looking into it recently and im hoping to apply for music (and maybe animation as a backup lol) for csssa 2017.
it's hosted at the CalArts Institute (founded by Walt Disney) in Valencia, CA where high school students stay in the dorms for 4 weeks during the summer to do an intensive program based on the art of their choice. they get a California Scholar of the Arts award upon completion of the program.
the departments are music, animation, theater, dance, film, creative writing, and visual arts.
animation requires no prior experience 8)
the cost for out of state students is about $5,200 and in-state is $1,700 for all four weeks (it includes room+board) plus an application fee of $20. they do accept out-of state students but they only accept 20 total across all of the departments yikes
all of the reviews i've read by alumni say it was one of the best experiences of their lives! the acceptance rate is about 1 in 3 applicants but im going to try my best aha
just thought I'd pass the info on bc it looks really cool and if i ever got in it would be hecka amazing to meet a wcfer

sorry if this is the wrong place to say this but: also! Kentucky has the Governor's School for the Arts and the related Governor's Scholars Program, so if you live in Kentucky you should check those out
you can apply to GSA as a HS sophomore or junior and GSP as a HS junior and they take place the following summer
edit: both are free and take place on various KY college campuses
