(nice drawing! ) Mikel raised a brow at Ari's accusing look, though didn't say nothing more about it. He just shrugged with a smile. "I'll be fine, I promise. I'm not an athlete, but I can hold my own. I don't want to burden you. It's my pack, anyway." He crept forward, his other foot at a limp, and bent down to pick up another couple of tree branches on the ground. As he was raising back up and taking a step back, his limp foot caught on a tree root and he had to use the tree to regain his balance. He made a whimper in pain at the sensation, but breathed back out and stood back up. "I'm okay...I'm okay..." He muttered to himself, moving forward more. He didn't look at Ari, afraid the other had seen his slip up. He placed back on a smile, holding his injured arm close to his chest, and walked on--er, limped on.

"You're not fooling anyone," Ari called flatly, having seen the whole thing. He sighed and walked over, dragging a hefty branch along with him. "Look, I don't know if it's a pride thing -" he held the branch at an angle to the ground and stomped on the center to snap it "- but if you need help, just say it. It's not a burden or anything, and it's not like I'm judging. Then again, you could be totally okay, and I don't want to underestimate you or anything. My offer still stands, though." He gathered the sticks and branches he had so far so that he could carry them in a bundle in his arms as if he were carrying firewood. "So, if you die trying to do everything on your own, don't blame me," he concluded cheerfully. "If your pack is full, let's head down to the beach. I'm probably going to fall on my face because sand's a b---- and I need someone there to save the sticks."

After her conversation with Belle, Lindy set off to form a small group to send into the forest in search for food and water. She couldn't find Oakley, or the man she found injured at the bottom of the hill, and hoped the two of them were alright on their own. She had been debating whether or not she should go on the food hunt as well - she didn't want to leave the injured with the doctor weakened, but she reassured herself that Belle was there, and she had asked Mycle to keep an eye on Larry and the badly injured woman. She walked over to the two additions to the group. She frowned at the sight of a nosebleed. "Hi," she said. "I don't think I've introduced myself yet - my name's Lindy. Are you two hurt in any way? We have a doctor and some medical supplies, though we're trying to keep from running out of those." She shifted her weight to balance between both feet. "Listen - I'd understand if you would like to rest, but I'm trying to form a small team to look for resources, either by scouring the beach for remains of the plane and luggage or by going into the forest. It would be wonderful to have help." She also planned to ask Shafer, and Riandylan, if the teen ever returned. One brow perked as the two of them were suddenly bombarded with words. Shifting uncomfortably, Indy stood, brushing sand from her trousers as she gave the girl a quick once over. She seemed kind enough and knew their priorities so that seemed beneficial to Indy. She shot her a small smile, half-hearted and all she could muster as a greeting. "I'm Indy and, uh-" She looked back at the boy, waiting for him to introduce himself.
Glancing up at Indy, Gene stood, holding the rang firm over his nose still. "Gene," he said simply.
Indy nodded quickly and turned back to the girl. "Other than his nosebleed and a few scrapes and bruises, we're fine," she assessed. Looking over the group and back to Lindy, she realized she'd so many questions she wanted answer first. How many survivors were there? How many were injured? Does she remember anything about the crash? While she felt relived about news of a doctor, she still wanted to know what other people's professions were, where they could help and what the could excel in. Already, she felt that they were too far stretched, each one wandering in their own direction to do their own chore before really assessing their situation and talking things over. Did they do a head count? Did they discuss some place for them to meet back in? She suddenly felt antsy and fidgeted her hands. Pushing them in to her pockets, she nodded to Lindy. "We'd love to help. Maybe it'd be best to search just the beach, though?" They knew nothing of the forest and Indy was almost certain she wouldn't be able to find her way back out if they got lost. She was not a country gal. Besides, if anything, the wreckage might be their most important resource and, if they wanted to gather anything, they'd have to beat the tide.

(finally getting around to actually roleplaying....)
Up ahead, Tobias saw a figure on the ground, leaning against a tree. A boy with black hair, wearing a leather jacket. That had to be hot.
Tobias approached cautiously, but the boy didn't stir. As he got closer, Tobias was relieved to see that he was breathing, but he also appeared to be bleeding.
"Hey, are you alright?" Tobias crouched in the sand next to him, cautiously giving him a tap on the shoulder. He jerked awake, staring around wild-eyed for a moment, before appearing to come to his senses.
"Wha- yeah, I'm fine." He straightened up, brushing his black hair out of his face as he looked Tobias up and down. "Are you? You seem to be." Tobias nodded.
"I'm guessing you already know what happened- looks like you moved out of the sun." The black-haired boy nodded in response, and Tobias continued: "Do you need help?"
"I wouldn't mind it," he replied. "Pretty sure my leg is broken. Are you headed somewhere?"
Tobias nodded. "Yeah, I heard what sounded like a gunshot earlier, so hopefully there's people around who can help. I also found this," he held up the gun he had found, "so it's just as likely to be another crash survivor as someone who lives or is taking a trip here. Unfortunately."
The other boy nodded again, this time thoughtfully. "Yeah, I guess it's as good a plan as any to head there. What's your name?"
"Tobias."
"Mine's Gabriel," the black-haired boy replied. "Would you mind helping me walk? If it's not too much trouble."
"No problem," Tobias replied, stooping to help Gabriel up. And then to skip a few more unnecessary details, they were on their way.
(tbh don't really remember what Gabriel's situation was so I'm gonna say he has a broken leg and pretend that was the plan the whole time. They are en route to a group [are there still a couple or have they come together yet?]. In any case, they'll probably meet up like next post. Now I just have to figure out Julia and Ayva.)

"Nice to meet you both," Lindy said. She couldn't help but notice the puzzlement flash across Indy's face and the fidgeting hands she'd thrust into her pockets, but decided it would be odd to ask if she were okay for the second time. "The beach sounds good. To be honest, I was personally hoping I'd be able to find my carry-on in some shape or form. Oh - were either of you two on a plane, perchance?"

Larry slumped up against a rock. He kept fading in and out of consciousness, probably due to blood loss. Focus! I have to remain awake and alive. I won't survive another episode like thathe thought. Somehow, this whole scenario seemed... familiar to him somehow. But the odds of that are ridiculous he thought.

(hey guys. ) Mikel huffed, readjusting his foot and followed Ari to the beach. To be honest, he wasn't sure if he could continue to walk all around with his foot like this. But he really wanted to try. Because...he didn't want to feel useless. And he wanted to be better and help out and do something for a change. He didn't want to let Ari know that he had a massive headache and he was sweating more than normal, and that his foot was literally on the verge of falling off (okay, so not literally). He wanted to help. He really did. "Yeah, yeah...I'm coming, hold on." Mikel moved the pack on his back and moved closer to the sandy beach. He walked towards the waves as they rolled in, a smile on his face. It had been a long time since he'd even seen the beach...his parents hadn't gone in so long. He missed it... "Hey, have you ever gone to the beach?" He asked Ari, bending down slightly to pick up some seaweed, only to have it slither out of his hands and fall back into the ocean with a plop. He groaned inwardly, but started picking up some more, "I mean...like for holidays and the like. Did you ever go to the beach on holiday?" Oakley was finishing up, more herbs in her pockets and some in her arms. There was some common ones, and some others only she really knew about. She wasn't sure if anyone else around here knew about this stuff, besides maybe Lindy and Larry. They were the medical ones, after all. She moved back towards where everyone else was, feeling a bit more motivated and helpful. She was glad to be of help, if she was able to bring back any at all.

(It depends on the amount of romance in the novel. If its just centered on the romance between the two shapeshifters, I might read a chapter then drop it. If its more of them having fun with their powers with hints of romance tastefully added in every so often, then I'd probly read the whole thing)

Post by Aphelyon on Nov 16, 2016 18:24:32 GMT -5
(Heh, well, describing it exclusively as a story about gay shapeshifters is somewhat misleading, as neither of those themes are the entirety of the story. Or, for that matter, even really the central theme. There are in fact shapeshifters, and the majority of my characters do happen to be some shade of queer, but romance is actually a very minor theme, and the shapeshifter aspect of it is less of a central plot point and more of an accepted fact of their reality if that makes sense. I mostly said gay because it amuses me to refer to things I make as gay _, but I suppose I could have used better descriptors than shapeshifters. Gay royalty, maybe? Hard to say. In any case, yeah, there will be SOME romance but only if it works passively with the characters and the story. There will never be forced romance for the sake of romance, because I hate that lol.
To actually summarize the story, though, it's a sort of medieval/Victorian/steampunk (hard to gauge the time period/theme exactly; depends on the aspect of the story you're talking about, and where they are in the kingdom) fantasy taking place in a kingdom called Lennad. The king, Anden, was orphaned seven years ago and is now turning 18, preparing to officially take his mother's place as the primary ruler of the kingdom. Obviously, there are several other factions who would like to see that not happen, for varying reasons, and there's a lot of subterfuge going on that I won't say anything else about because they're plot points. Anyways, the shapeshifters come into it because Lennad- and in particular the city of Atiraan, the capital- is known for its lions, who serve as guards for the city and, particularly, the castle. Lions are sentient and magical, and can take the shape of humans. They are raised from cubs to be undyingly loyal to the kingdom and its royal families. There's a lot more to the story and the characters, but that's sort of the base idea. The story is not at all a romance, and while there may be SOME romance here and there in it, it's really more about platonic love and the power of chosen family. I wouldn't say that I'm trying to get any kind of particular message of that across, but that's just sort of what's become central to the story as I've come up with it. And lord knows we need more focus on platonic affection in young adult/teen stories. Jeez.
The story is actually inspired by the Of Monsters and Men song "King and Lionheart," and if I can ever manage to write the whole thing, there will likely be two or even three books. I actually got about.... 1/3? of the way through the first one but I've changed my plan to the degree that I kind of have to start over from the beginning to get the right effect even in the rough draft. So I figured it was as good a time as any to see if anyone else would be interested in reading it.)

((i know exactly what you mean >.<))
"Yeah," Ari said. And then the memories came. There was a lot of screaming. "I've been to the beach before." He dumped his findings onto the sand a good distance from the water and stared at the sticks distantly. Don't go too far into the water, you'll get your clothes yet! Don't put sand in your sister's hair! Stop climbing the rocks! A lady is never this messy! OH MY GOD GET BACK HERE YOU'LL DIE - "It was fun," he said. He snickered as the seaweed slipped from Mikel's fingers and started nudging the sticks apart with his food, trying to gauge how much they already had. "Feel free to add to the pile," he said, turning to look at the waves. He inhaled deeply and sighed, the breeze brushing his hair from his face. "It's actually quite peaceful," he mused.
Riandylan skipped back to the group, because why not. They looked around, curious as to what everyone was up to. Mycle waved at them. They waved back.

((i wish i had the motivation to learn stuff that interests me when im bored - teach me your secrets -))
Mycle was sort of trying to check up on those that were still in the main group - or, area, or something - he wasn't quite sure what to call it, but it seemed like the spot where people would return to - but he was not one to easily walk up to someone and say "Hey how's it going?" He sort of peeks over and try to observe whether or not they need help without looking like he's staring. At one point he limped over to the edge of the forest to rummage around for a proper walking stick so that he didn't feel like he was going to fall over all the time. It took a while to find a relatively good one, though. He missed his crutches. He walked over to where Larry sat against a rock, concerned, having watched Lindy go over to him and seen him cough up blood. He sort of awkwardly stood there, trying to summon the words he had practiced in his head out of his mouth. "Hi," he finally said. "Are - how are you doing?"

And I just do it till I get not bad at it, then move on to something else. Also, I love Elder Scrolls. Riandylan looked out from the top of the hill, looking out for more people. A lot had arrived since they ran out to the beach, and even though it's been a little while the gunshot rang out there still might be survivors coming in their direction. They settled down to wait, not thinking to ask if there were things to do or people to help.

(aw jeez, I don't even know how many different Skyrim saves I have. So many. I don't have near as many different Oblivion games though. It tends to hold my attention for longer so I don't need to start new characters as frequently XD it's my favorite game by far. Though I must say, despite all my early complaints about Elder Scrolls Online, now that I've played it more I like it a lot better. Originally I had joined the Ebonheart Pact and didn't really like Morrowind that much, but I went back and started a new character in the Aldmeri Dominion just because I didn't really care about the factions and wanted to screw around in Elsweyr [though Khenarthi's Roost (sp?) is the only Elsweyr location, figures D:< ] and I'm enjoying Elsweyr/Auridon much more than Morrowind. The graphics and music are very reminiscent of Oblivion and I am and always will be a Cyrodiilic khajiit at heart XD )

(My first playthrough of Oblivion came directly after I had beat Skyrim. I thought to myself "I'm so good at Skyrim, I'll just do a NO WEAPON RUN of Oblivion! Imma punch everything!" Spoiler Warning, I died within 20 minutes. But I did miraculously manage to beat the game without any weapons other than my furry fists. I'm hoping the next Elder Scrolls game takes place in either Elsweyr or Blackmarsh. Also, Morrowinds cities and lore was awesome, even with the ancient textures)
