I don't think Millie neglected Blossomfall. And yes, I am perfectly aware that Vicky said that she did in order to care for Briarlight and that there are other types of abuse, neglect being one of them. And if Millie did neglect Blossomfall, then it's clearly unintentional and shows ignorance on her part. Either way, the two clearly seem to have an estranged relationship since Briarlight got injured, so there also seems to be a severe lack of communication on both ends.
Honestly, I think the reason I don't see Millie as a neglectful parent is because Blossomfall was almost a warrior and perfectly able to take care of herself by the time Briarlight became injured, and cats are considered adults once they become warriors. Blossomfall and her littermates were about a year old when it happened, which is when real cats are normally considered to be adults. Not trying to say that adults can't be neglected as well, but I'm just pointing out that the problem started when the problem started when Blossomfall and littermates were adults.
This issue only being brought up for only one book (and in the second half of OotS at that) also makes me slightly skeptical on whether Blossomfall was really being neglected by her mother or just wasn't used to the attention Millie was giving Briarlight, since it's clear that she and her littermates were pretty spoiled by her and her behavior as an apprentice wasn't exactly pleasant, either and it honestly seems to come out of nowhere for me since there are never any actual hints that Blossomfall feels jealous of Briarlight prior to this. At least with other abused cats, like Crookedstar or even Brokenstar, we actually got to see how they were being treated and it's brought up constantly as well.
Or maybe the Erins are just poor writers and given the quality of OotS... Yeah... And the issue being resolved after the story just makes it all the more frustrating, really. You'd think that something like this would be resolved within the story, but nope!
I can see where the argument comes into play though, and as I've said before, I never really thought Millie was that great of a mother anyway, nor am I saying that adults don't need their parents anymore. I just don't think she's one of the worst ones. However, this doesn't make Blossomfall completely innocent, either and other cats seemed to have taken notice of the distance between them as well, especially after Millie scolded Blossomfall for wasting an entire afternoon of hunting that one time, but there's never any mention of someone actually talking to Millie about her behavior, either.
So, yeah, I don't see Millie as neglectful, but I can definitely see why others might and maybe if we were given more hints that she actually was neglecting her other kits to care for Briarlight then perhaps I would think differently. Instead, we're just given a few scenes from Sign of the Moon that shows that Millie and Blossomfall have a distant relationship and it's never brought up again, as though it never happened. That's what annoys me the most about this subplot and is also why I really don't care too much for it either.
