While I understand that the warrior code was probably more strict back then, I still think they tried too hard for us to sympathize with Mapleshade.
What would StarClan have against three innocent kits who have nothing to do with Mapleshade's sin to meet up with Appledusk? Why did they let Ravenwing know? Leafpool, Yellowfang & Bluestar all had kits and broke the warrior code, but they never had a sign about the kits for the Clan to know the truth.
Why didn't Darkstar allow Mapleshade to grieve?
Now, I am not defending Oakstar or Frecklewish, but I can definitely understand their reactions. Birchface is their family so of course they'd freak out about Mapleshade's lies. What did you expect? Sunshine & rainbows? I dislike them as much as you do, but their reactions about her lies were natural.
I can also understand why Ravenwing told the truth. He was doing his job. If he lied to his Clanmates, I am sure Oakstar wouldn't hesitate to exile his medicine cat. ThunderClan needed him.
I also noticed that Mapleshade believed that she did nothing wrong, even after she killed Ravenwing:

StarClan, why are you doing this to me? I fell n love, that's all! And now I am made to suffer more than any cat has before. - Mapleshade's Vengeance, page 67

Also, I found it rather strange how Mapleshade blamed Appledusk for not saving their kits, even though when they drowned in the river, he wasn't even there. He didn't even know that the kits were in the river.

"My kits," Mapleshade rasped. "Save.... my kits..."
Appledusk's face appeared above hr, his eyes huge with horror. "Are you telling me the kits are in the river?" - Mapleshade's Vengeance, page 46

Now, I'm sure at this point Mapleshade wasn't right in the mind, but still. Nobody bothered to give Mapleshade a chance. They threw her out right away. Why did Appledusk have support? I am sure that at least one cat cared about Mapleshade in her Clan?
Again, why the heck did StarClan tell everyone about the kits? This hasn't happened before and I'm not buying the "So she can start the Great Battle!" excuse. The Warriors series was supposed to end in the Original Series, according to Hollyleaf:).
I am growing into MV a little more, but I still think it's poorly written and they tried too hard to make us pity Mapleshade. That's just bad writing, and while you can pity a villain, they shouldn't act like they're the victim here. Tigerclaw's Fury is an example of how Mapleshade's Vengeance should have been. He simply planned everything carefully to get his power. But instead we got a sob story for Mapleshade's story.
