[ He just wants to play assassins too lol more names gosh darn it] [ Lol I can see it now. Idk he just reminds me of a Rowan maybe because of the one scene of flashing his fangs and stuff I just thought 'He gonna go all Rowan' ] [ it's such a good movie cx nick wilde is my spirit animal ]
Rei has been to many parts of the capital of Kevior, Noridi was a place that she had learned where to go and where not to go. She learned to stay within the parts of the city that were bright with life, with smiling faces and loud noises that gave way to bright sunshine. She learned that this part of Noridi was a place of safety and protection, where most of the city guards would patrol. She had taken many horse rides through this district and have seen nothing but the occasional thief that would slink through here to lift some plums or maybe a loaf of fresh baked bread from a outside oven. The place she didn't go to was the dark part of Noridi.
After the kingdom of Lyriad had fallen most of it's citizens needed somewhere to run to, some ran to the north and some went across the ocean to the sandy cities but some came to Kevior and took a home in the capitol. More people meant more houses needed to be built, and more people meant there would be a over-flow somewhere. And so, houses were built for such actions to take place. They were nice houses, sure they were tiny but they were nice to start with only...it didn't stay nice. The grief and pain from the people seemed to taint this part of Noridi. The hate from the lost citizens of Lyriad swarmed the air, to have to take refuge in the same kingdom that betrayed them in the first place. There was fires she has been told, in the beginning there had been riots and murders so gruesome that the scenes forever scared the ones who saw it. People were angry then and the city guards didn't take control of it right away nor did the king. So....when the last riot took place, it was the first job that Rei took part on. And she controlled it....
But it required unsheathed swords and blood to be spilled. Not a lot were killed, not on purpose but....in order to make the riots stop and the hate to subside into the corners of kingdom, action had to be taken. Even to this day, as she followed after the man from the arena and into the parts of Noridi where the atmosphere changed, she got chills and a sickly feeling turning in her stomach. She had to avoid eye contact with just about everyone, her nerves were making her fingers twitch and she felt a flutter in her chest. Like a fight could break out any minute. She wouldn't be surprised either....but she wouldn't stop it.
Guards didn't come to these parts of the city anymore so violence was...frequent. Illegal activities would go unnoticed and people would only report deaths of those found in the street gutter already half decayed. Rei wanted to turn back the way she came and give up on this man, maybe come back with suits of armor and more men but...she had to do this by herself. She felt she needed to because....she didn't have a good reason alright? She just felt like she needed to do this by herself, to confront a...magical. Her fear for them was for a goo reason too so maybe this was a good thing.
She stopped for a moment when the stranger entered some establishment, and could smell the lingering stench of....urg she didn't even want to know. She felt her throat react though, her hand coming up for a moment as she moved closer and let out a cough. You can do this....you smelled worst She thought to herself encouragingly but honestly this stench was different then a bloody battle field. She shook her head and straightened her back, forcing herself forward to the....where was she even? She had no idea but she wouldn't be surprised if it was a pub or something. Although she never knew that a pub could smell this bad....
Rei entered the building after a couple of thoughts to build up her confidence, the motivation to continue with the little job she gave herself. Go in, get the magical and come back out and she was home free. She could go back to the palace, take 20 baths until her skin was red and raw, and then continue with her life as if nothing had happened. Rei would come back to Atticus complaining about his lessons and teachings that he had to do, she would walk with the queen in the courtyard and stand by the king as new bills and problems were presented to him. This was just a little step out of her comfort zone is all, she would be fine. Her hand lingered to her sword and for a moment she cursed herself for bringing such a thing here. The sword was about the only 'guard' like thing on her. The silver wrapped handle and the matching hilt with a single red gem plastered on the end. And the blade was of expensive and sturdy iron, made custom for a girl her height and size.
I should have brought a dagger She thought to herself while climbing down the stairs, her amber red hair falling into her face a little. Well it was dark that was for sure but she couldn't ignore the bodies stuffed down here in this low ceiling room. Some glanced her way, some ignored her which she was thankful for. She had to squint a bit in order to find her target, almost forgetting why she even came down here in the first place. He had walked toward the back to a woman....a tan women with a Lyriad complexion. It was easy to tell the difference between Lyriad and Kevior these days. Tan and fair while the other half was pale and less exotic looking. They were talking but her feet didn't stop, she found herself getting closer and closer. And eventually she found herself stopping just behind the man, blue eyes narrowed slightly as she looked up at him. It's not to late to turn around and run is it? the small voice in her head said.
Much too late
Atticus on the other hand was having a blast.
He rarely got to see Noridi or the market places that were here. He even stopped to switch out his silver vest for a more dark toned leather one that fit him nicely and didn't have some itchy collar. Why people even stopped staring at him and eventually just acted like he was some normal citizen! He was giddy really, but he almost lost track of Rei a few times the girl was easy to loose. She was short, not all that tall. Atticus had to any of the guards though that he saw patrolling the safe part of Noridi. Atticus loved this though, he enjoyed actually walking around and not on top of a horse towering over everyone. He enjoyed not being stuffed into a carriage and driven around the same parts over and over. He liked being one of the citizens and not having to go back to a palace with large marble walls that felt like cage doors.
If he was to rule this country one day, shouldn't he get to know the people and the scenes that were accustomed here? The large markets and nice housing. It was nearly perfect to his eyes but....not everything was...perfect. Following Rei down to a part of the capitol he had no idea existed nor smelled like this. The mood changed from happy and light to something...sad and angry. The smile melted off his face and he didn't know if he just went through some portal and into some other world. This couldn't be....Noridi. Call him naive but this wasn't....what he had been told about. This wasn't Noridi and the safe place that he knew of and was told about. The housing looked horrible and decayed, leaning to one side like it might collapse at any second. And the people changed too, they only scowled and avoided his eyes when he looked to them.
Noridi is a safe place....there isn't a dangerous part to it he was told, by Rei. And yet this didn't look safe, this didn't look healthy either. He jumped slightly at the sound of people yelling suddenly, bumping into someone as he moved backwards which was greeted with a growl. "Watch where ye' going you idiot" the stranger growled looking up at Atticus who just dipped his head slightly. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to" he answered, a look of shock coming over the stranger like an apology was something he hadn't expected from him. Atticus you should have listened for once his thoughts told him, the brightness he had been feeling moments before had vanished like the wind and he was stuck with the after taste. He always asked about Noridi and how the people were in the city, sure he expected things to be a bit chaotic but this was Kevior where people didn't need to be scared or sad.
He thought this place was a safe haven for others. He felt a spark of anger that he was never told about this part of the city, that Rei and his father had kept him in one place for so long and for what?! To spare his feelings? He wasn't some baby anymore who was frightened by the real world. He wanted to be a part of the real world and he wanted to see what others saw. Now he wanted to catch up to Rei, turn her around and demand why this part of the city was like this. Why wasn't she doing her job that she was given and protecting everyone that lived within the city limits? He saw not a single guard now, not a single one patrolling the streets or standing watch. They were still in a war and yet there was no one to look over the parts of the city that needed them most? He felt a frown come over his face as he kept on walking, following Rei as she seemed to pause and watch something. He followed her eyes to where a figure vanished into a building to which she began to follow after a moment of hesitation.
What does she have a secret lover now? He thought sarcastically, following after her. Tough it through, Tough it through he thought as the stench wafted up to his noise and he almost doubled back to barf. He didn't need to throw up his guts. He was angry....too upset to barf. He waited a few beats before pushing himself to climb down the stairs after the Captain of the guard. He could just imagine what she would say when he caught up to her.
You should have stayed with the guard. You are a idiot for following me, don't question my actions. I know what I am doing blah blah blah. He wouldn't care. He would corner her, demand he tell her what happened to this place and why it is neglected by the guards. She would have to punch him in the face and knock him out cold in order to bring him back to the palace.....which is what she would do honestly.
He only paused when he noticed she was walking towards a table of people....and after mysterious stranger #1

《 Okay, a little bit later than anticipated, but what can ya do? 》 《 ouch the jokes cx 》 《 yes it is and same tbh 》
Storming palaces? The men at the arena hadn’t been wrong, then. This was a big job. Heulfryn considered; he’d made it a habit of not disturbing the higher ups so directly. In the past decade he’d lived in Noridi, sure, but also the… Well, considerable amount of time before that. In his long-ago youth he’d been more rash, and would have jumped at the prospect of open rebellion, but now he preferred to attack from the inside. Disturb the order, play his cards, reap the benefits, and walk away with none the wiser. As he’d done today. As he did routinely. Had the guards been aware of each and every one of his misdoings he’d probably have racked up a lifetime sentence by now. Too bad the system had not been designed with immortality in mind; nor someone of his particular set of talents. Heulfryn doubted any jail of theirs could hold him. Death would be his only prison.
Nerys meanwhile was still sizing her newfound prospect up. She hadn't lied when she'd said he was pretty - in contrast to herself, he looked rather out of place in this neighborhood. Simply but finely dressed, the kind of clothes that gave a good impression without attracting undue attention. A businessman’s clothes. The rest of him matched up fairly well to the description; pale skin, high cheekbones, dark arching brows above muted green eyes. A tousle of dark brown hair, cut close to the scalp on the sides with a little more on top - the only feature that lended him less than a spotlessly reputable image. Tall and narrow, long-limbed in a way that might normally give someone the appearance of a beanstalk. He certainly didn't remind Nerys a bear, or a beanstalk for that matter.
He leaned back in his chair, regarding her the same way she had him before she'd spoken. Only he didn’t grin; only the deep corners of his lips curled up, as if he had some amusing sort of secret all to himself. The silent, impenetrable counterpart to Nerys’s crackling energy. “That depends,” he replied in that low, grating voice - Nerys had the strange thought that it was the way a knife might sound if it suddenly decided to speak. His voice was rough-cut iron. “What's in it for me?”
What's in it for me? Nerys smiled. “A generous sum.” It wasn't a lie. She wasn't so stupid as to think she could rally herself a proper crew for the job with only her words. Years spent among pirates - or privateers, depending on your point of view - had taught her as much. The same way it had taught her just how far some people would go for a good cut of coin. And how different was she, really? She had her personal reasons for breaking into the palace of Noridi, but she never turned down something gold and glittery. Rather, she collected gold and jewels with the same fervor as a firedrake - evident in the rings on her fingers and the piercings in her ears. The only things she cared more for likely were her knives. So when she'd found a sponsor on a stop in Fínladd, a port town just outside the borders of Kevior, it hadn't taken much convincing to take the job - although she had managed to barter to up the reward.
The man didn't look entirely convinced. He didn't look against the proposition, either, which was worth something. Really she couldn't get much of a read on his face at all. It was like trying to interpret something in a language she wasn't familiar with. He lifted his chin, gesturing to her. “And what reason do I have to believe your word, morleidh?” Pirate. The Lyr word for it, at that. So the man had some knowledge of their customs, at least, though he looked the type to have never spent a day of his life on a ship. No, this man looked a lot more like the one who would hire a ship, or sign papers for a shipment of something exotic to be sold at market. Although if he was here she suspected he traded in the less legal circles of the area. Or perhaps it was a guise.
“Not bad. Our sponsor prefers to remain anonymous. But he sends a sample of his offerings.” Nerys replied, drawing a pouch from her pocket. She dumped it’s contents on the table. Gold coins spilled out, a small but decent stack, and Nerys felt every set of eyes in the room settle on them for a brief moment. Among them, a single ruby, dark and red. Blood money. Heulfryn’s eyes narrowed at it immediately, and she knew that he recognized exactly what it symbolized. His eyes lifted to hers, and she thought she caught a flicker of gold in their green depths - a reflection of the coins, perhaps. “That's not a job to be taken lightly.” He murmured.
That's when Nerys noticed another woman approaching their table. Short - shorter than Nerys, who could call herself average height on a good day (or when she wore the boots with a little heel) - and young. Her eyes caught on the sword at her waist, and felt her greedy little heart jump in excitement. Finely crafted for someone of smaller stature - probably custom made. She'd learned first to wield shorter blades, knives and daggers, which she still used more frequently than swords but… she knew her way around such a weapon. And man did she want one like that.
Heulfryn watched her brown eyes rise and tensed slightly, casting a look over his shoulder. He took in the woman at the same time as his counterpart, eyes roving from head to toe - not in any sort of suggestive way. His look was assessing. His eyes too caught on her sword, and he blinked. Another woman who could handle a blade? How many had he already run into that day? Not that he was against that - he knew several Fae females who were fiercer than any male he'd ever met - it was just that he was aware of how… frowned upon it was in Kevior - among humans in general. His gaze trailed upward, taking in her cropped amber hair, sapphire eyes.
“Come to join the party?” That was the Lyrian woman behind him - Heulfryn had yet to learn her name. “Have a seat.” He heard the scrape of a chair being pulled out, he imagined the girl doing lazily, without getting up. She had a careless sort of energy to her - he wondered who had deemed to give her such a dangerous job. His eyes, however, didn't leave the newcomer, watching for… something. He wasn't sure. Maybe just to see what she would do.

[ Hey hey technically it's Morning somewhere so you delivered right on time in like another time zone ] [ the jokes won't stahp ] [ I tried drawing nick wilde cause I was like 'I enjoy this character so much' but then it turned out horrible cause I remembered 'I can't draw animals!']
More like I'm here to bust down your party She thought as she was addressed, her eyes going to the girl and the man she had been tracking but....something stopped her from opening her mouth to say the usual 'You're under arrest and being associated with a being of magical course' or whatever. But truth be told....she couldn't. Maybe it was the scrap of the chair, or maybe it was because if she were to say those words then she would be revealing 'Hey I'm the captain of the guard surprise!' and she would either get beaten and left to die in a gutter or she would be laughed at. She knew how she looked, young and short. Maybe easy to pick on for any coins left in her pocket or maybe get something else out of her who knows. She just knew that this part of Noridi hated the royal family. She didn't want to think how much they hated the Royal guards that neglected them for so long. Something she couldn't control because it was an existing problem even when she took the spot as captain.
Rei could defiantly handle herself in a fight, she was trained to do so. She proved she could in a muddy court yard against a man much larger then her own. She could handle some men that didn't even know how to fight but still. She didn't want to be caught off her guard ( get it cause she's the captain ) and shanked in an alley way. Women in Kevior were held to a strict....role. They were either mothers, daughters, basket weavers, artists, and so on. A woman with a position such as Captain of the Guard or maybe a soldier or doctor was...unheard of. Looked down upon and thought to be sinful to the gods. And that's another thing, Kevior was very Gods based on a lot of stuff. And to the gods, only the men hold the power of violence and war or any power. While any goddess was held to be peaceful, loving, a mother to many and a savior to all. Kevior wanted to hold that illusion of women being pure and peaceful, not at all tainted by the power of war and violence so it was nearly impossible to get a job involving any of those things. Sure a women could be a nurse but never a doctor. That was what Kevior wanted to do, but....Rei broke that rule thus she is considered tainted to many. The King almost didn't allow it but the rules of becoming the Captain of the Guard overruled the own beliefs he had set in.
She found herself sitting down slowly, leaning forward on the table and not automatically sitting straight up where she stood like she has been taught or rather how her spine was breed to be formed as. She didn't know what they thought of her, nor did she care. She didn't want to outright claim she was here because she was following this guy who she believed to be a magical. Even if she knew he was one how in the world could she prove it? She saw a second of something abnormal and she went to this length to follow him, because she thought she saw something magical. She didn't even think ahead to what she would do when she caught him in full detail. She could never prove it without dragging him back to the palace and force him to take off whatever glamour was over his body.
"You could say that" she said, her voice softer then when she was in the palace where she was barking orders all the time. Her eyes lifted up to the girls first assessing her as they had, and the word LYRIAD flashed across her brain. If there was a person to define what a pure blooded citizen of Lyriad looked like it would be this girl. Although maybe she was a bit more tan then most....but it was also dim in this establishment so she didn't really know for sure. She did catch that little glint in her eyes towards her sword. Rei knew that look all too well, believe me. She wanted to drift her hand down to place a firm hand on the handle but she kept her hands up and away to show she didn't feel uneasy around her. That she wasn't worried she would take the sword cause she knew that this stranger could never take it off of her.
She paid a lot of money to have this sword forged too so she ain't going to just give it away to someone like her.
That's when she felt another pair of eyes burning into her form, her eyes going to the other stranger who was looking her down. Staring. And for a moment she thought he would remember her, that he somehow knew that she was the girl under the maroon cloak and the one he had dragged away from the wall before going over. She certainly remembered him ( Cause she wasn't going to lie, no girl could forget a guy with those kind of cheekbones like really? ) Rei felt her heart skip slightly but she forced herself to calm down. If he was a magical, then she couldn't go and get all scared and frightened like she would normally, she couldn't panic.
She didn't know what he was yet, but she knew of certain creatures that could pick up on a fluttering heart beat or even read the minds of others. Crap. Did that mean he could hear all the thoughts running through her head? Don't think about anything, just focus on something else. Anything else She thought to herself. She let her body relax further like this was a normal thing she did, one hand coming up to run through her hair so it fell in a little wave over her eyes. "I'm guessing I picked the right party to attend, to be honest" She said.
She couldn't ignore the pile of golds and gems sitting in the middle of the table. This must be some sort of job or whatever or maybe a gambling going on. Whatever it was, these people were packing some serious coin to have this sort of money laying around. The only time she has seen something like this, so shiny and well....shiny was in the Kings own treasury which is kept under lock and key, and then under a layer of locks and more keys. Did she walk in on some job? She has heard of a certain job floating around when she was doing her job before the crowd surge and you know. Could this be it? She had no idea. She only glanced toward the girl and the man, totally not seeing the very Prince of Kevior standing just a couple feet away. He was watching her, hiding behind two bigger men that could beat him up with a flick of their fingers.
What in the world are you doing Rei? he thought, or more like if a magical could hear his thoughts screamed them in his head. He watched one of his closest friends sit down at a table with two strangers he has never seen before. Never. Not even heard of them. Was this something else she didn't tell him about? He would like to think Rei told him everything he liked to know and wanted to know, and boy did he want to go back in time to tell himself to ask about outside friends. He always thought Rei was the king of person to never go outside the palace for anything but....he never saw her all the time. Same days she would be out doing something and he wouldn't see her for a while but he always thought it was because she was doing some Captain of the guard like. What if this was what she did on her day offs instead of lounging around the palace or reading in the library like she tells him. He could see the glint of gold on the table, a slight fear striking his chest as another thought entered his head.
Was...Rei a gambler? Did she gamble when she wasn't in the palace and wasted away her own coin on something like this? Or...was he doing something illegal? Atticus nearly doubled over where he sat if that was the case. If Rei was actually someone who plotted against the crown instead of protect it, that she was actually his enemy and was planning on killing him in his sleep along with his family. Don't be silly....Rei is devoted to the crown...right? His own thoughts betrayed him! He was just now thinking about how little he knew about his friend, how he didn't even know where she came from or where she was born. He always thought she was Kevior born, but he has never seen someone with sapphire eyes or that fiery of hair before. He didn't know what she liked to do outside of the palace besides reading, she could be a gambler! She could be a serial killer for all he knew!
Atticus felt himself slouch as he leaned against the bar, his hands digging into his hair as his eyes darted around like he could find a reasonable explanation for this. She could be a gambler and...he could help her. Get her some help for whatever it was that was plaguing her to make her do this. He swallowed, only looking up when he was tapped on the head. "Oi...you alright pal?" said a gruff voice, a man with a dark beard and a shiny bald head looked down at him, tapping his finger on the wooden counter like he was waiting on him. "I was about 6 seconds ago...." Atticus muttered, sounding like a kicked puppy. "Well...I can't have you mopping here and not order something so...what ya need? Something for a broken heart? Stressed out? Bored?" the man asked, crossing his arms over his barrel chest. Atticus just frowned slightly and shrugged, looking back toward Rei and for a moment his plan of stomping up to her and forcing her to tell him what was happening was tossed out the window
Along with his sense of what to do.
"I don't know...." Atticus said softly, and just shrugged, so the big bear man just sighed and vanished for a moment. When he came back though he had a mug of something foaming and foul smelling and pushed it into Atticus's hands. But Atticus didn't really care at that point, was just listening as best as he could to the conversation that Rei was having, he could hear fragments of the conversation.

《 ech, short. But I’ve got a book I have to finish and yeah. 》 《 True. 》 《 Haha I feel ya. But your art skills are definitely far better than mine. I mean, I can draw a pretty wicked stick figure but… that's about it 》
Heulfryn’s eyes lingered on the small redhead, even as she took a seat, trying to get a read on her. Normally it was easy for him - he’d been around long enough that you started seeing the same people in different bodies. It was all in the eyes; the greedy man’s eyes always sought a prize, while a thinker’s wandered, sometimes without a true aim. The diplomat looked steadily at all the options, while the warrior was always looking for an escape route - exactly how far to each potential exit, to their weapons, to those they needed to protect. He supposed the sword at her side may point her to the latter but…. She was hard to place. And her ancestry? She didn’t look like her family hailed from Kevior, what with that amber hair, but her accent gave no alternative away. Perhaps she was Noridi born and raised, but if so what would bring her to a place like the Selene? She looked far too clean for this establishment. But then again, she was obviously some sort of fighter, if the sword meant anything, and for a woman in Kevior that marked her almost as much as a magician would. He’d heard some go as far as call a swordswoman tainted in these lands.
But Heulfryn liked to think he knew this city’s players fairly well. He knew at least half the room by name - though it was highly unlikely they knew his, and higher still that they knew of his abilities - and the other half by affiliation. But this red haired girl he'd never seen before. She was unremarkably human, he could tell by her scent - they both were. But while the Lyrian girl carried with her the salty tang of the sea, this other had only the scent of Noridi - the nicer parts, not this centre of refuse.
He followed her gaze to the pile of coin, the single red jewel. Did she know what it signified? Perhaps that would be the real test. Although if she really was Noridian born and raised perhaps she wouldn't. It was drawn from Fae culture, practiced among many of the magical races in this end of the world, adopted by the Lyrians, among others. The colour of the jewel gave the meaning. A clear gem, like a diamond, signified a gift, something of pure intent - an engagement ring, for example. Peaceful blue in apology, or to make amends. Green as an invitation to trade, to show you had interest in what someone else had - or, depending on what circles you associated with, a hire for theft. And red, like this one, for blood to be spilt. A dark promise - or contract to an assassin.
Nerys must have been thinking along the same lines, because she took the red stone between her fingers, inspecting it in the dim light. She set it in front of the redhead, watching her face carefully. “Tell me,” she asked carefully. Or perhaps just slowly, since one could rarely describe Nerys's method of action as careful. “What does this mean to you?” She paused, more for effect than out of hesitation. “Better, tell me about your… skill set. You too, handsome,” she added with a glance toward Heulfryn. “I like to learn a little about my friends before we get into anything unsavory.” She wanted to know that they'd pull their weight in this kind of job. If one of them were useless it might get them all killed.
But they needed more than three for this kind of job. She'd taken ships on her own before, knew all the good tricks when it came to piracy but on land… It was only different in theory. Breaking into the royal palace of Noridi wasn't a job for one, but she did prefer to keep those in the know in smaller numbers. But they needed at least one more. She had to admit, she'd been expecting a little better of turnout. Nerys's eyes skimmed the crowd, looking for bites. Your average thugs and thieves and swords for hire filled the majority of the table, but none of them really jumped out at her. Her gaze landed on a figure up at the bar, and she briefly looked him over. Kind of mope-y, and unremarkable in the strength department, but not hard on the eyes. There were uses for someone like that in their crew, right? You're looking for assassins, Nerys. Not eyecandy. Though she wouldn't have argued exactly - it was a well-known fact that people were more susceptible to being duped by someone they found attractive. In that case you're perfectly well off on your own. Had she mentioned she was humble?

[ I understand, you don't need to tell me twice. Books come before everything even food so they are pretty important ] [ But stick figures are amazing. ] [ nerys is very humble ]
Did she know what it meant? She had a little bit of knowledge about these things, about the meaning of gems. She was taught a while back when she was just a child. It was mostly to memorize colors and know the difference between a Emerald or a Diamond. So she knew what a ruby meant, it meant well....blood. That someone wanted a certain person killed. And it had to be a very powerful person if they are tossing in rubies around like it's a free for all. Rei hesitated for a moment before reaching forward to swipe the ruby from the girls hand to hold it up to the dim light herself. "If it means what I think it means...then I can assure you that I can do this job." She murmured. The ruby gleamed back at her to cast a red shimmer over her eye and for a moment those sapphire eyes betrayed something. Showed something that looked more sinister then she wanted to let on. She set the gem back into the pile of coins before looking up at the girl. "I'm more then just a little girl with a pointy sword too. So if this requires someone to die then trust me. They are good as dead"
Dark much?
Rei hasn't had to talk like that in a while. Her hands came to claps together in front of her, her thumbs pressing together until the skin underneath was white from the pressure. What was she doing? Was she really trying to get these two to believe she was trying to get on the job? This was something she had not planned on doing today at all. She let out a long sigh before letting her eyes go to the stranger before raising a eyebrow as if to say it was his turn to chime in. Rei wasn't one to give up all her secrets just because she was asked. Rei made sure to keep her past in the dark. As far as Rei was concerned she had no past. In her head she was just created from a blank space and put into this world so she could do what she had planned to do. The complete opposite of what she was raised to do, the complete opposite of what she was sent to Kevior to do. The only people who knew of her past were those that lived across the sea and to the north. Somewhere far away that has long since been forgotten by others. But yet this....this scene was like a nasty reminder of some nasty words whispered to her in the night.
No matter where you run, you will always come running back to where it began.
A shiver ran down her spine as if those words were spoken right in her ear. It was horrible because it was true, somehow she did end up where she had ran from. But she had to remind herself this was for the better good. She wasn't really gonna kill someone. She was just here to catch some possible murders before anything got out of hand. You are Captain of the guard....you will return to the palace and tell the King and Queen about all of this. Then these criminals will be locked up before anything happens she thought. But then again....what if she was to return to the palace and not report it? What if she keeps it to herself and just...let's it happen? How bad of a person would she be? How bad of a Captain? Why, the King would have her head if he found out she had taken part of something so horrible. Sure, this country has done plenty of bad things but the King tried his best to keep things in his own neighborhood under control. Rei didn't know why but, when she would walk away from this she wouldn't....tell anyone. It was just a small voice in her head saying Don't tell anyone this could be fun but then again her reasonable, more Captain of the Guard side said Tell the King about this or else we are dead by morning. She had no idea she just-
A hand came to rest on her shoulder suddenly and her eyes turned upwards, snapping from her thoughts and to something more....profound. She was staring up at Atticus who, was staring down at her and the pile of coins on the table. First things first was what in the name of all the gods was Atticus Valhalla doing here. The last time she had seen the prince was at the arena and she had THOUGHT he had went back up those stairs to where his family was. But instead he was here. And Second and less important was why didn't she hear him coming? Sure it was loud and she was wrapped in her thoughts but she was still present enough to know when she was being snuck up on. She stared at him. He stared back, with his black hair a mess and his tall stature towering over her. What was he wearing too?! A leather vest tied up to the middle of his chest, and the same pair of pants no doubt. Where was the silver vest he was gifted from his aunt?! Rei almost took his hand and tossed him down on the table if he weren't the prince and this wasn't a public establishment.
"Um....sorry....I just couldn't help....but overhear you guys" Atticus said slowly, the look he was getting from Rei was almost terrifying. He had given this as a impulse move. To get off his butt and come over to see what was going on, to get the truth. But then again right about a second before clapping his hand on Rei's shoulder did the thought come to him. If he were to ask Rei what she was doing here....wouldn't her 'pals' ask who he was and what she did for a living? He would have to explain he was the Prince of Kevior and she was the Captain of the whole guard. So instead he ended up standing behind her, fumbling for words because he had no idea what to do now. He just stared down at a pile of coins in the middle of the table and looked up to-
Well Hi there
Atticus felt his spine straighten slightly when he saw the girl there now up close, tipping his head slightly as if he was some lost puppy dog that was confused about something. She was....pretty. Very pretty. He couldn't help the little tug of his lips before his eyes went to the dude that was present as well and felt that smile almost flatten. Almost. The other guy looked scary but then again those cheekbones could cut someone. "Hey there....stranger" Rei said, but the look in her eyes said I will kill you before you even take a step out of here look. The little snot had followed her hadn't he?
Atticus didn't know what he was doing now, dragging a chair around so that he sat promptly between Rei and the girl, sitting down with the back of the chair facing them. "I'm hoping I'm not interrupting anything at least?" Atticus asked and offered another smile, her nerves were screaming and yelling at him that he could get up and walk away. Rei on the other hand had to act like Atticus was just another stranger, but the hate behind her eyes could set a whole forest on fire. Atticus smiled, letting the one side of him that he didn't get to see that much. The side that didn't sit up straight and speak in such a proper manner. This was the side of Atticus that let him slouch and talk like a normal person. The messy hair Atticus. Cool Atticus.
Or so he likes to think.

《 Ich I’m sleepy. But I just finished Crooked Kingdom so 》 《 Atticus you dork 》
Heulfryn listened to the red haired one's response to the Lyrian’s question. Able to handle the job, more than just a little girl with a sword… Huh. So she did know what this job entailed. At least, had a very good idea. The Lyrian nodded, satisfied with the answer for now, and looked to Heulfryn. His turn. He considered for a moment, and then - a shimmer, and the ruby on the table slowly liquefied, running down the coins in viscous red streams. Blood. The Lyrian girl blinked, cocking her head slightly. A trace of a smile lingered on those lips. The picture disappeared, the ruby still solid atop the stack of gold coins. Untouched, unaltered. “Huh.” That was all she said for a moment.
“So you're here for the job, then. I won't delay.” A flash of silver as she drew the knife she'd been toying with earlier. He wasn't even sure where she'd put it before - up her sleeve or something. It was a tiny silver blade, as if someone had removed the handle of a paring knife. But it was double-edged, and had a hilt, encrusted with a single red stone - rougher cut than the ruby on the table. “I won't pretend it isn't going to be dangerous. This is the big one - we're going to -”
Nerys broke off at the sound of another voice. Someone stood behind the red haired girl, hand clasped on her shoulder, eyes trained on the stack of coins. Someone as in the very someone she'd noticed at the bar moments ago. He was even nicer up close, dark-haired and pale skinned - she was used to ruddy-skinned sailors, so this was worth a good deal. A little clean-looking, perhaps, but who was she to deny someone the desire to look nice. He looked like he came from some money, a merchant's boy wandering down to Little Lyriad (a very mocking, unofficial nickname for the neighborhood, given its flux of Lyrians living in squalor) to play at danger. But perhaps he had some knowledge of assassination…?
His eyes lifted to her, and Nerys looked him straight in the eye. Unwavering. She could taunt and charm and trick her way through many things, but her real strength was in her steel. An iron will was worth a lot. She stared back at the boy - man? It was hard to tell his age exactly - watching him, scanning him. Was he in the market for a job? Or clueless? She'd say he seemed a lot more likely for the second reason but… She caught the quickest flash of his lips curling upwards before it faded again.
Heulfryn stared at the boy in turn, although his thoughts had considerably less to do with the stranger’s (purposefully) messy dark hair and hazel eyes. Certainly not. Heulfryn, rather, was trying to sort him out the way he'd sorted the Lyrian and the redheaded girl before. Or attempted to, as he was still a little befuddled in the case of the latter. The boy (he didn't care how old he was, he did not think this merchling or whatever he may be could yet be called a man ) proved much easier. Definitely knew to this scene, from the way his eyes lingered a little too pensively on the money, from the slightly lost look in his eyes. The question was; what had brought him here? Likely he was seeking a little rebellion, something daring to spice up his bland little merchant's life. Heulfryn had no patience for such things, but that wasn't his call.
Nerys rolled her shoulders back, straightening her spine a little as the newcomer pulled up a chair between her and the other girl. She didn't let her gaze linger too long on the smile he gave them, looking away with a practiced disinterest. Perhaps he was a charmer? Having another one of those around never hurt - but she wasn't so foolish as to let herself fall prey to that. She shrugged. “Not at all,” she replied smoothly. “And what breed of monster are you?” Nerys twirled the tiny knife she'd been fiddling with between her fingers. Gawain. The little blade had been named after another charmer - the one people never assumed would strike. He was sharp as a razor blade, this one. She cast the boy a smile of her own, but it had a dangerous tilt to it. “A con man, perhaps? Or a pickpocket? Or maybe your dealings are more… Intimate?” Her grin was feral. “In contracting of course - taking on jobs for someone else, I mean.”

[ *applause* I'm so proud of you is trying to read both Crooked Kingdom and the Magnus Chase book but it isn't working ] [ why do I have the feeling Nerys and Atticus are going to be the more child like of the group ]
Atticus rolled his eyes to the girl and the flash of silver, if he wasn't in such a deep pit of crap already he would flinch back from the blade but instead he just let his smile slide further like he knew exactly what he was doing when really he had no idea. "I'm like a Jack of all trades so to speak" Atticus said as he crossed his arms over the back of the chair and rest his chin down to grin up at the girl. "....but master to none" Rei muttered, glaring over at Atticus like he was a flea. Atticus just looked up to her and grinned before looking back up at the girl wondering if this was....really a game of gambling or....not? "I do well when it comes to connections so to speak. So I'm sure whatever this game is that you are playing...I know plenty who can pull some strings" Atticus said, his tone of voice nearly shocked Rei and the back of her hand almost flew up to smack the young boy. But she let her hands stay firmly clasped together.
Atticus didn't know what he was really doing, he was just playing along to whatever mess he was getting himself into. Do you think Atticus knew what a Ruby meant? No! He barely knew what this conversation was really about, he just thought his friend was in some serious danger or was an addict to some game. But nooooo, he stumbled on something much worse that certainly earned him a rough beating from Rei when they got back. "Trust me you want me around for this" Atticus kept on going, this train wasn't stopping for no one! Well Rei looked around ready to throttle the boy where he was, take him by the ears and drag him all over Kevior until what brains he had left were slipping from his ears. "I don't think we need a doe eyed little boy running around for this" Rei said almost through clenched teeth, her fingernails digging into her skin a bit.
"But this little doe eyed boy can get you in where you need to, cause I'm guessing that punching and hitting and well whatever it was you do-" Atticus said, mentioning Heulfryn since he didn't see the little magic trick just moments ago. "-Isn't enough to get through right? Sometimes the deadliest weapons you have are the ones that don't really pack a punch behind a fist but rather through planned actions" He said with a smile. Rei looked him with a blank expression, the only sign of irritation on her face was the slight twitch of her eye.
Did you just quote your own father?....From a WAR meeting?
Rei couldn't tell if Atticus was just stupid or being crafty. If he wasn't born a prince he would make for a good swindler indeed cause he could lie like the best of them. His father would be proud at least to know that his own son used his quotes meant to inspire others in war for something as dangerous as a assassination attempt. Atticus didn't seem to understand the situation that he had gotten himself into right now. He was sitting at a table with two possible murders, one of which was a magical being that in the eye of the law she is suppose to drag in to be locked up. Atticus looked like he was playing a game, like this wasn't serious when it was. Rei chewed on the bottom of her lip slightly while looking at Atticus who just looked between her and the Lyriad girl. "Names Eius" Atticus said, going straight to his middle name that not a lot really knew was his middle name. Or at least one of the less popular ones because like every royal man in the family you can't have just one middle name.
"It is name sharing time right? Right?" Atticus said and smiled up at Rei like it was her turn to reveal her name. I'm gonna kill you and mount your stupid royal head to a spear Rei thought bitterly while she looked at him with not a speck of amusement on her face. "Reilyn....but I mostly go by Rei" She said, uttering her full name was weird. But it just made Atticus smile cause now he knew Rei wasn't really her full first name. At least something good came from this. "I'm guessing you guys have been talking for a while so we can share names and stuff and then get on to the good stuff right?" Atticus said, turning his attention to the girl beside him instead of the man that had a look pinned on his form. Truth be told Atticus was frightened by the man and feared if he looked the man in the eyes he might blurt out everything he was and that he was just a stupid prince playing around because his friend didn't want to include him on after job activities.
Rei instead just wanted Atticus to shut up, seeing as she was this close to getting the info she needed to go back to the castle and drag these two back to be locked up. This was a killing job, and Atticus could barely withstand the look of blood. How on earth did he expect to react to someone having their neck possibly ripped open? Probably faint.
But first he would scream like a little girl, then Rei would just end up laughing at his own pain. Which she would.
Cause after this she was going to beat him a inch within his shiny silver spoon life.
"This is going to be fun right?" Atticus said and smile spread across his lips, a look that Rei has only seen on crafty men that knew every move in the book. Like he knew what was coming before it was even there when really he was pretending to be that guy. He was pretending to be the ghost watching the party and waiting to make a big entrance. Atticus will forever be a prince in the eyes of the people but to himself? He wanted to be something else. And maybe this was his chance to do so. Maybe he could be a part of something that didn't involve him sitting in a room listening to a bunch of old men talk about the same thing. And he could take Rei along too, and she could be like his short little companion that got angry all the time because she was well...short and no one took short people seriously.

《 And now for a short, delayed reply sponsored by "I Fell Asleep Writing And Then Couldn't Remember My Dramatic Plans" 》 《 I run. Kind of cx And I do horseback riding. How about you? (If you sport, that is) 》
Nerys listened as the dark-haired boy described his supposed skills, snorting softly at the other girl's muttered remarks but not responding. Connections, huh? Perhaps he could be useful, then. She didn't know the city well herself, or its big players, as much as she'd tried to educate herself on the word of rumours from sailors at sea. She waited until he'd finished talking, still fiddling absently with the knife - she was an endlessly restless person, not the kind who could easily sit still for hours, or at all. She waited half a moment longer, just to pretend to think about it, then nodded. “Very well, then, merchling, welcome to the crew.” Nerys said, flashing him a grin.
Heulfryn, on the other hand, was not so impressed. He stared at the boy - Eius , if that wasn't a name of Kevior, he wasn't sure what was - unamused by his straight teeth and smooth nature. He hasn't the slightest clue what he's doing, Heulfryn thought with annoyance. He literally smelled like money, dressed a little like to crowds of aristos that crawled all over each other trying to impress the royalty, if you ignored the vest. Maybe it was just his easy, approachable attitude. Maybe Heulfryn was just bitter. He would never be someone that was easy to be friends with. Being immortal did strange things to someone, especially if you were an immortal living among mortals. They passed in and out of existence in the blink of an eye.
His thoughts were interrupted by the redheaded girl, once again speaking. Reilyn. Rei. Heulfryn blinked. That was her name. It seemed odd putting a name to the warrior girl. She occured to him like a reminder of something that no longer existed. At least she seemed to recognize the faults with Eius - at least, he was pretty sure she wasn't thrilled by his sudden appearance, no more than he was.
It was his turn to give them his name, he realized. “Heulfryn,” he said without hesitation. He didn't need to give them a fake name - Heulfryn was such an outdated name by this point that most people just assumed it was a false. Provided, of course, they didn't know what he was. Besides, nothing in Noridi could be traced to him under that name. It was hard for anything to be traced to him, when he could walk out his own front door a different person every day. He liked to keep his features as similar to his own on the daily, with some minor changes to appear more human, but he could paint himself a new face for every day of the week, of the year , if it suited his fancy. But perhaps he liked a little of the dramatic, or maybe the ironic, because he liked to use his own, his own name, when it came to crime.
Nerys considered her newfound crew. Heulfryn, who was kind of intimidating, an illusionist who had something else lurking beneath those lovely cheekbones (or perhaps those were real? A girl could hope) ; her deceiver. Rei, small but strong, and that sword ; the muscle. And Eius… Pretty face, pretty smile (and nice hair, also critical to get the job done) if he knew how to properly use them. So he would be the charmer.
She smiled, a practiced swaggering kind of smile. “And I'm Nerys,” she replied. A common name in Lyriad, not only among royalty. Either way, she knew it wouldn't turn any heads as a first name alone. And her comrades didn't need to know any more than that. Although, she supposed they did need to know what they were walking into. “And now for what I suppose you've all been waiting for; the job.” Nerys paused, mostly for dramatic effect because she was one hundred percent that kind of person. She cleared her throat. “We're going to assassinate the royal family.”

......
Eh?
Atticus looked at the girl for a long moment before tipping his head slightly, chewing on his bottom lip. "What?" He said with a little chuckle in his voice, Rei just looking over at the girl with a raised brow to hide the utter shock and alarm that went through her system. Atticus drummed his fingers against the chair before sitting up a little straighter, as if he needed to make a point that he was in fact the Prince of this kingdom and this job was a big NO NO on his part. Mostly because well He was part of that flipping royal family in the first place.
WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THE GODS IS THIS REALLY?!?!
Atticus looked toward Rei, a small look of panic crossing his eyes before he chuckled once more. "Kill the...royal family? As in....the Royal Family? Of Kevior?" Atticus asked as he shifted on the chair again and looked to Nerys with pinched eyebrows like this was a silly little job to be doing when really it was something he didn't want any part of now. He didn't want to be sitting here, and wondered if maybe if he should have listened to Rei and stayed at the arena instead. Rei could be on the job for all he knew and he just barged right in and put everything on the line for her. "That seems a little....illegal" Atticus added, glancing around once with his eyes as if someone would pipe in and say 'OI THAT AIN'T RIGHT YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!' but no one did. So all he could do was shift in the chair again and keep his eyes on Nerys. He didn't really care about.....oh he isn't going to try and pronounce that dudes name. He'll just call him Hale.
"Like super illegal. And the royal family is sort of....surrounded by guards 24/7. With the Captain of the guard right there with them..." He listed, not really meaning to but just going to name some of the things that were no way okay with this. "Scared?" Rei said, in a voice that sort of held the other half of that sentence I told you to stay back you should have listened to me kind of tone. Atticus just smiled slightly and looked over at Rei, while trying not to panic and and just run away. "I'm not scared, I'm just stating the facts. It's not every day you hear about a girl wanting to kill a whole family of people. Much more rulers of our country" Atticus said, trying to play it cool cause now if one of the two strangers figured out who Atticus really was then there was no doubt that this job would start a bit early and be a lot easier for them.
Right now he had a mixture of fear and something else bubbling up to the surface. This girl wants to kill his whole family, she wanted to kill him. But really could she blame her? After everything that his father has done in the past, sent a whole kingdom in blazes to the enemy for the sake of their own skin, and then made a law decreeing that every magical is to fight to the death in order to be separated into the army to fight against the enemy that they made a bargain with. This girl wanted to kill Atticus, his father, his mother and....his little...sister. Now there was the spark of anger that bubbled inside. She wanted to kill a whole family? "Okay okay if we're going to kill a whole royal family....what about the baby?" Atticus asked, struggling to keep his voice in that same tone of voice he has been using. If this girl even thought about kill his baby sister then she had another thing coming. It was dark to even think a person could kill a innocent child but Mira was only a baby. She didn't do anything wrong to this country. She didn't deserve the hate that the family was pushed onto. They had only celebrated her birth a couple months ago and if the country had to celebrate a funeral so soon he....he didn't even want to think about such things. Rei shifted slightly in her chair to tap her knee against Atticus's, looking up at him with a silent Calm down look in her eyes.
Obviously this wouldn't happen. Atticus didn't have to get all upset because this little game of theirs was never going to happen. Mira wasn't going to be killed, his father wasn't going to be killed and his mother wasn't going to be killed. Atticus was not going to die. Why? Because as soon as she can she was going to gather all the guards she could and get them together to search for Nerys and Heulfryn. Rei was in charge of protecting him, his father, his mother, his sister and anyone else related to the royal family. As long as there was royal blood still on earth then there will always be a ruler to rule Kevior. This was something she didn't learn about every day though. Someone openly planning to kill the whole royal family, right in their back yard. She had to admit it's a smart and dumb move. Dumb because this was still Kevior and most assassinations happen outside of a country. But it was smart to do so in a part of Noridi that didn't have so much protection and surveillance. That was her fault though and after this she planned on dragging them both to the dungeons. "If you don't want to do the job you can always leave Eius" she said, looking up at Atticus and raised an eyebrow.
All he could do was just look back, and then to the other two. "No it's just...this is a really big job and well...I don't want to be known as a baby killer" Atticus said. She could hear the underline voice there, and sense the worry that he carefully tried to hide. He was worried for his family and angry that someone had the nerve to even plan this sort of hit. Rei just let out a sigh and leaned back in her chair a little, now more then ever having to find the right level of calm and nonchalant attitude. She wasn't so much worried about the girl as more to Heulfryn. Clearly he was the magical, the man with the power but what was he she didn't know nor dude she care at this point. She knew a normal man couldn't look that good....which was a sad point taken away from Rei. Well she could look but not touch, not like she was gonna touch in the first place....
Rei could only look away from Atticus and towards the doors to the establishment, letting out a long sigh before something alarming did enter her line of vision. A certain somebody came clomping down the stairs, dressed in....bright....shinny....silver armor. 2 of which.
That's not good, that's not good.
Rei wasn't known to these outside people....but she was known to ALL the guards. So was Atticus, with or without combed back hair and a shiny silver vest. All the guards had the royal family's faces memorized and if they found Atticus here along with Rei well...there goes the charade of Eius the rich boy and the mystery girl Rei.

《 I feel ya. Like I really want some practice writing a character like Nerys because NaNoWriMo is coming up and one of my MCs is a little like her. But I love some of my other characters too Will. And Eliza. Oh god there might be a swible reunion Now that I'm thinking about it I have a character like Heulfryn too.
Ooh sounds intriguing. I look forward to seeing what you have in mind. The end of HOF? Oh dear that's either like empowering victory or tragic murder and imprisonment
So I had an idea for how the oldies might come in. Feel free to reject because I won't be too hurt. So like what if they're still in a gang (different world, different gang but same idea). And like their gang leader wants in on this supposed big job they've heard all about so like they send some of our old characters to come check it out and stuff and basically they adopt this little murder scheme for a cut of the profit? Like, their people will help in whatever way for a share of the money (and tbh this group needs help planning such a scheme because seriously). So that way we can basically throw in as many characters as we need.
& I'm writing my reply now for real 》

[ There WILL be a Swible return, because I love your idea. I miss Swible and honestly that cliffhanger we left off on was suppose to be major development between them and it was for the drama and other ships to set sail. Plus I made a Will joke wink wink ]
[ Honestly I'm trying to make Atticus a more light hearted Dorian and Rei be more like 'I'm basically this kids mom' type of character but with that temper I gave Sybil. It's just been hard because of this block I had but now it's clear the sky issss clear ]
[ I just needed to read something for this moment cause I was in like a block of all kinds and needed something so I just picked up Heir of Fire and re-read it, and that ending just shocked me back into writing and reading and everything. not as much as the Crown of Midnight ending but I just needed something to jazz me back up, this slump I've been in was seriously bothering me]
[ But yeah I love that idea so so so much. Like big mature gang adopts little baby gang that's forming and it could be amazing. And we could start them off on a testing mission before heading off to kill the royal family poor Atticus like this job could test out all their skills and show case some of them before they are tossed into the real thing. Like a Pre-test~ ]
[ And I just reorganized my bookshelf because you made me think 'I need to reorganize my books too' and I got bit by something and I discovered books that I didn't know I had ]

《 and welcome to the season premiere of ‘Heulfryn is suave and not putting up with the mortal trash’
Ah yessss Will would wink too now there's just the question of how to bring them in. And good. I'm glad you like it. ‘Cause tbh I'm not sure how these hooligans would've managed on their own. They are a little dysfunctional I mean.
Haha good for you. I actually didn't get around to finishing mine today because I have to adjust the shelves on my bookcase. The one at the very top is currently just too short for any book to fit so I have to adjust every other shelf to make it work. At least I'll finally have space for everything when I'm done. 》
Nerys rolled her eyes. But it was Heulfryn that spoke. “No, I'm sure she means the other royal family,” he rasped in that sandpaper baritone, voice dripping with sarcasm. He didn't go on, letting Eius prattle on about the obvious; that it was illegal and the royal family was always heavily guarded and blah blah blah blah. This was why he avoided dealing with mortals - especially the rich ones. They always seemed to have trouble seeing the bigger picture. Of course this was illegal. Why else would they be meeting in a seedy, backwater place like the Selene? Heulfryn would've much rather been sipping tea in one of the cafés in central Noridi, or dining in his apartment (he had a lovely view of the river from its floor-to-ceiling windows). But he'd never conduct business there. Also… Clearly you associate with the wrong kind of women, he was half tempted to say. Then again, if the young lad had spent his whole life in Noridi, perhaps it wasn't his fault for being accustomed to spineless damsels chattering about parties and princes.
Nerys sighed, seemingly exasperated. “Not the rulers of my country,” she retorted, tone seeded with something bitter. She would never count herself as a citizen of Kevior. “I'm a daughter of Lyriad,” Nerys continued, all pretenses of humour lost. “Since you seem to like stating the facts, Eius, I'll remind you it was Kevior that handed Lyriad over to the Empire. And we do not forgive so easily.” No, Nerys would not forgive this country. Not ever. Not when there were still injustices to her people going on every day. Her people, who had once been poets and actors and traders of rare goods, artisans and tailors and healers, forced into the worst of jobs just to make ends meet. To stay in Lyriad was to live under an enemy's regime, while to leave was to live in equal or worse squalor. Nerys had seen what had become of many pretty young Lyrians, not unlike herself. Even if she wouldn't have been killed otherwise, Nerys was glad she'd been thrust onto that ship, to a pirate's life, than the alternative.
His next question had her mentally stumbling, however. The baby. She recoiled slightly, pursing her lips. Did he honestly think…? Nerys frowned. “I don't deny myself a monster, but I'm not so soulless that I'd kill a child.” She replied, bristling. Even as a tiny voice whispered in her mind; the way they would have spared you had you been there, the way they spared your brothers? She'd been barely six years old when it had happened, Dafydd eight, Gawain thirteen. Ira had been fifteen, the closest of them to adulthood but still really just a kid. She was older now than any of them would ever be. A dark, vengeful part of her urged to pay them back the favor but… She refused to stoop as low as they had. She wasn't even sure she'd be able to.
Heulfryn, meanwhile, surveyed the boy again - it was kind of his thing. He watched, he noticed. He blinked. Was the young man really so naïve? So… innocent. It was odd, and yet, not an uncommon story. A rich boy, wandering down to Little Lyriad, thinking he could do something a little dangerous, a little rebellious. Only to discover things were rougher down here than they had imagined, that things were for real. And sometimes they ran, tail between their legs, and other times… Other times they found they had a taste for it. Yes, he had no patience for ignorance, but at the same time… Go, he silently urged the boy, although his expression never changed from predatory. Again he wished he could slip into the minds of others, take control for a moment, rather than simply alter their perception. Leave while you still can. Not that he cared. But it would be foolish on the boy's part to stay. And Heulfryn had no patience for fools either.
The sound of the door opening and closing pricked Heulfryn’s ears, and his attention shifted. He didn't allow himself to turn, but he strained his ears to close in on the sound of the newcomers. A soft clinking sound stood out, crisp and metallic. Like plates of armor hitting the others as its patron moved. Armor far too expensive for the residents of this area of the city. Armour like the kind worn by the guards. What were they doing here? They never strayed too far into this neighbourhood. His eyes rose to meet Nerys's, but her gaze was already fixed on the people over his shoulder. She'd been keeping as close of tabs on the room as he had, then. With a single fluid motion she had the money swept back into its pouch and tucked away somewhere in the folds of her tunic.
Not enough, his mind whispered as he gazed around at his companions. He was still dressed for the nicer parts of Noridi; Nerys practically had the word pirate tattooed across her brow, something the guards wouldn't be fond of skulking around their city; Rei wasn't too bad, although that sword was too finely crafted for anyone around here to have obtained legally; and Eius… Well, he looked a bit clean. He sighed inwardly. No harm in it, he thought, and reached for his magic. A little tricky, glamouring all four of them at once and so quickly. He didn't get to focus on the details as much as he would have liked, and he had to draw mostly from their existing features. He did just enough to make their clothes a little more like the people around them, their features blander, less noticeable. If anyone were to look at any of them a little too long, they might notice the flaws in the image, see past it even. But the whole idea was that the guard's eyes might skip right past them. “Stay in your seats,” he told the others. “And… socialize. Talk amongst yourselves.” Which was just about the last thing Heulfryn would like to do, particularly with wayward rich boys with dark messy hair and charming smiles.
But it did rank higher on his list than being arrested. Not that he thought their arresting would be successful. But still, the point remained.

[ what a great program I love it, it ranks right under 'Atticus is such a dork but at least he's pretty' and 'Big Gang training little gang to kill' ] [ They need pros to teach them the ropes, and just get even more messy. But I was planning, maybe they could witness Heulfryn do his magic tricks, the guards don't really buy it, but then they edge in like they are all buddies when really they take them to the back and are like 'We're wanting money but we're gonna teach you the ropes' Will making a come back with those jokes ] [ Remus and Sybil making a come back too sjs;adf; yas ] [ The struggle of having a bookshelf ]
It was almost funny how Atticus wasn't use to sarcasm. Rei almost bust out laughing when the magic one spoke, Atticus cheeks going bright red for a moment before looking down. But when mentioning how Kevior handed over Lyriad it was almost a slap to the face for Atticus. He had to look down at his hands, and let his jaw clamp together to keep from saying what she knew he wanted to say. She felt bad just as quickly, seeing as Atticus seemed to always carry that fact around on his shoulders even though Rei had to constantly remind him that he couldn't do anything to help them. He was just a child at the time and there was no way a child could stop his father from handing over a kingdom to the empire. But Atticus liked to think that it was his fault, that it's still his fault because he is just sitting in court most of the time while people suffer. Atticus may be naïve and innocent but he has a big heart, and a full of such passion for protecting his people that the thought of someone wanting to kill him burning Rei's blood a bit. Atticus looked up at Nerys with this look of newfound sadness in his eyes and for a moment he opened his mouth to speak. But Rei's hand shot out on instinct and gripped his wrist so tight he flinched and looked up at her. She was frowning as well but just shook her head. It's useless her eyes said to him. And he knew that.
But Atticus didn't see the guards right away cause he turned his attention back to Nerys, with a look of worry flashing across his eyes. "Then what do you plan on doing to her?" he questioned, his muscles tightening up but the sound of Heulfryn brought him back to the now and the very present guards strolling around. He raised an eyebrow to Heulfryn, not really getting his words until he looked to the left and realized exactly what he meant. Rei didn't look like...Rei really. Her red hair was duller and her face seemed....plain? If that was how to describe it, it wasn't hinted with a spot of red on her cheeks and her eyes seemed more gray then that shock of blue. And Nerys looked more like a normal Kevior girl and Heulfryn seemed....um less handsome? Who knew, those cheekbones though were less pointed. Never less Atticus was feeling a bit nervous tryin to act normal. His form of normal was sitting up straight and having to wearing a thick collar vest with slacks. Not pall around and whatnot. "Oh yeah that's so easy. Talk like we are all old friends when really we are all planning to kill a bunch of people except the kid. We might sell the baby" Atticus whispered harshly.
"Eius why don't you just shut up?"
"Why don't you? Why couldn't you have been addicted to gambling or something?"
"I am this close to just busting your butt right here and now" Rei hissed, as she elbowed Atticus in the ribs that earned a little yelp from him. "Do it I dare you" Atticus egged on, which wasn't really helping them when it came to trying to be stealthy from the pair of guards walking around. Of course Atticus's words carried a little, the guards coming closer and closer with narrowing eyes and hands on their sword hilts. Ah seven bloody gods Rei thought as she looked up, her fingers tingling to go to her own sword hilt to draw the shiny steel. "Shut up before I cut your tongue off and feed it to the dogs" Rei hissed at Atticus with venom lacing her words as the guards seemed to stroll over to their table. "Ladies....Gentlemen. Good evening..." The man said. It was Telvan by the sound of it, and the way he was looking down at them was like how he looked at newbies. Annoyed. Exhausted. "Evening sir" Rei said softly, trying to not sound like...well Rei. She has been taught how to swiftly change her voice just a bit to sound different. Sound more innocent and less like herself. "We are just asking around the tavern today....about if anyone has seen your Prince running around" he asked.
Atticus kept his eyes down with that statement, glancing toward Nerys and Heulfryn before looking down at his hands. "The prince?" Rei asked, as if she has never heard of a prince before in her lifetime. "Yes...about 6'1...black hair, hazel eyes and should be running around with a silver threaded vest made by a Galifius weaver." the guard began to explain, and it was almost scary that they remembered his eyes and height. Atticus had to shift slightly on the chair while keeping his cool. They were idiots, remember that. The guards weren't all that smart and he was alright. He was smart to ditch the vest and mess up his hair but other then that there wasn't much of a difference between him and the image he was suppose to be fitting. Why in fact, if Nerys or Heulfryn were to focus too much on him without the veil of this magic they could probably click two and two together. Not to mention he hasn't been keeping his cool together for that long either. He just....got a little heated when it came to the thought that this girl or whatever she was...was going to touch his sister and family.
He knew that Lyriad was lost forever but...to kill a whole family for it was about as disgusting as what his father had done. Did she plan on giving away Mira to someone else? Some stranger being given a baby and...what if that stranger was abusive and sold her as a slave? The lost princess of Kevior working in salt mines or being shipped off somewhere it was horrible. Disgusting. Just thinking about it made Atticus want to bolt up right and demand that the guards take the girl to the dunegons. His father had to do what he had to she didn't understand what they were dealing with and what happened she didn't understand Atticus kept on thinking as he looked at his hands while the guards stood over them like vultures. "I don't think I have...why on earth would he be here anyway with the likes of us? We're nothing" Rei said, summoning up the dialogue she was forced to memorize when put into this situation. Make it seem like you are below whoever is looking for you. That you are different on another plane of existence.
"We are thinking he got swept up in the crowd and brought somewhere in the city or...he was being a bit.....curious. Either way...his father is displeased and would like him back." the guard continued. "Why not get the Captain of the guard looking?" Atticus blurted out but he earned a swift under table kick from Rei. "Captain is AWOL.....thus only displeasing the king further" the guard added. He leaned forward, the other guard walking around to Nerys while the first guard braced a arm between Atticus and Rei, cutting off the group in two so that Heulfryn and Rei were to one side and the other guard dealt with Nerys and Atticus. "Maybe this here girly has seen them eh? I mean others say you all have been whispering and blabbering for a while back here" one said, their eyes narrowing even more like their images were too blurred to see clearly.
"Yeah....mentioned some pretty coins here just a minute before we wal-"
"I knew you were sleeping with her!" Came a sudden voice. "You were sleeping with the bartenders wife, just how low are you?!"
"What are you-" some sputtered voices caught the guards eyes, to a pair that were standing up at a table. One with blood red hair and icy blue eyes, seeming to be causing a little scene. Giving enough time for a certain blonde to slink around the room to the table, dropping off a note that read in neat hand writing:
When it gets busy, meet us in the alley in the back. Every single one of you. We have business to discuss about this job.
And with that note being dropped, soon that voice got mixed with much more. The whole room exploded and soon that figure that was standing there moments ago was slipping away with his partner with a smile spread across his face. He came and went like a ghost in a room, straightening his coat lapels and smoothing back his neatly combed back hair

《 Aw Atticus 》
What do you plan on doing to her? Nerys pursed her lips tighter. She hadn't gotten around to that part yet! But she wasn't going to sell it into the slave trade or something; the child would live a normal life somewhere. Just not on the throne. The newborn princess would have it no worse than Nerys had had. She just hadn't planned that far ahead yet. She hadn't planned very far ahead at all at this point. Mostly her plan consisted of; obtain crew (check), storm castle, don't get caught. Details could come later. Perhaps it would've been wiser to go into this with an elaborate scheme in place but… Nerys was no trained assassin. A pirate, yes. And it showed, too. She fought like a pirate, because that was how she'd been taught. Elegance came second if brute violence could get the job done. “I… I don't know yet.” She admitted sourly.
Nerys tensed, just then, as she noticed the guards heading their way. A selection of choice words ran through her mind, but she didn't vocalize them. Her mind scrambled for loopholes, ways out of this situation. But it was too late to make a hasty escape, she realized. At this point it would only draw more suspicion. There was no avoiding this encounter with the guards, only hoping they would lose interest in a ragtag group of individuals like themselves quickly enough. She didn't reply as the guards greeted them, staring back at them bluntly, boredly, as if this interruption was a great inconvenience for her. Her interest flickered as soon as the guard started talking, however. The Prince? Wandering around a place like this? Too bad the man's description only matched about ten percent of the population of young men in Noridi. Besides, they'd just been plotting to kill a certain Prince, and she doubted he would've taken too well to that information if he'd been around.
Heulfryn listened as the guards prattled on - what was it with Noridians and their tendency to babble? - internally bristling. Outwardly, however, he didn't look so much as ruffled. In fact, he looked more peaceful than he had a minute ago, cheeks warmly flushed, body loose - a young lad who had perhaps had a little too much to drink. Nerys blinked at the transformation. More magic or just good acting? She wondered, impressed. Heulfryn didn't so much as blink at the information coming his way. The Prince, missing? And the Captain of the Guard? He remembered his odd encounter with the Captain earlier. The Captain, who was a woman.
What did cause him to blink was the guard's last statement. Particularly, his use of the world girly. Dismissive, a little demeaning. Pig. Heulfryn straightened, and swept his eyes over the guard's form. Slowly, deliberately, and as he reached the guard's face once again he spread his lips in the smarmiest smile he could muster. It tasted bad on his own lips. “I reckon I did seen your Prince,” Heulfryn slurred, holding the man's gaze. “Perhaps you and I could go search out back. Ye’ never know what nasty things might be hiding out there.” There. He wondered if he made the man uncomfortable enough if he might just leave. Worth a shot. Never mind that it would bring Heulfryn great joy to see his skin crawl.
It seemed, however, that this plan wouldn't come to fruition, as someone else had other things in mind. The guards heads snapped up at the sound of a commotion at another table, where a red haired man was yelling at another, making accusations of fidelity. A note popped up in front of Nerys almost simultaneously, and her eyes skimmed it quickly as the guards were distracted. Shouts broke out amongst the crowd, and she heard the distinct sound of glass smashing as the bartender bellowed something at the accused. Meet us in the alley in the back. All right. She'd much rather be there than in this situation. “Back door, now. All of us.” She commanded in a low voice as the guards rushed forward to deal with the scene. She rose, surveying her little group. They ought to split up, but not individually in case one of them got caught in the crowd. Pairs, then. Which one did she need to keep tabs on? Eius was pretty, but… She wasn't in the mood for more of his questions at the moment. “Rei with me. You too meet us out back.” She nodded at Heulfryn and Eius. “Don't be late.”.
--
When he'd agreed to come along on this little recruitment job, he hadn't thought it would mean standing in a dark decrepit alleyway for a half hour while the others got to sit inside and investigate. Then again, agreed was a generous word for it. Will had requested to come along on this particular job. He'd needed to do something, rather than look over paperwork and crunch numbers, as he'd been doing the past week. And the one before that. He hadn't expected to regain a position equal to his previous status after his recent shift in allegiance, but he'd expected to be cast as a showrunner thug rather than a glorified secretary. And he hadn’t minded the change of pace at first - he liked mathematics, reorganizing the numbers and playing with sums - but he’d quickly become stir crazy. He itched to hit the card tables, to be in on the cons, the schemes. And even if he wasn't, well... William Gansey had status. He was sure they could be using it better than burying it under a stack of paperwork.
Will sighed, leaning against the crumbling brick wall behind him. He tipped his head up, straining to see the stars in the thin strip of darkening sky left exposed through the rooftops. Cloudy. Or maybe that was just the smog that lingered in the air here. It smelled back here, too. He didn't want to know what it was that smelled that way. What had happened in this alleyway he was standing in. The door opened, and out stepped two figures. The first, a man, nicely dressed and red haired, with eyes like chips of ice. And behind him, a smaller figure, although she gave off enough presence that he thought one would be less intimidated by someone a foot taller than them.
All right, perhaps there had been more than one reason why he'd wanted to be in on this job.

[ Willllllll's baazaalkck which means swible has returned ]
Atticus shifted suddenly when Nerys got up and began to move. Him with magic boy? He looked toward Rei, expecting her to say other wise that she'll stay with Atticus but all she did was give him a curt nod and a raised brow look. Which roughly translated into 'Just do as your told you'll be fine' in Rei language. She couldn't really argue right now, they were given a chance to get out of here and they were going to take it. "Just don't get lost on the way out" Rei said as the two girls began to move from the table and towards the door. People were being pushed and shoved, knocked around like dummies and glass being tossed at the walls creating a flurry of shattered glass. She kept grabbing Nerys's arm and yanking her out of the way from men stumbling, her own protective instincts kicking in about halfway in through the room. It would be sad though, to say she was use to this kind of stuff before and knew how to navigate around it as such.
The only time she really had to get violent in that situation though was when a man came stumbling into the pair of girls and grabbing hold of Nerys's arm. Rei swiftly jabbed the butt of her sword up into the mans gut without takling it out, and grabbing hold of the arm gripping Nerys. She twisted it around until he was facing away from them and no longer holding Nerys but instead he was looking down at the ground while Rei held onto his twisting arm. "Ye gonna break it you crazy-" the man began to speak only to be pushed away. "If only I could" she spat, going back to Nerys's side like a snake. She wasn't really paying any attention to Atticus now when she really should have been, but she trusted that no harm would come from getting out of here. Atticus was with Heulfryn who looked just as capable as any other man. She hoped at least. "Are we heading outside because of that note you read?" Rei asked Nerys as they moved, her Captain like ways pushing into her system, her thoughts being Protect the girl, Protect Nerys.
It was like a mama bear reaction sort of...if the cub was a pirate girl who wanted to put Rei out of a job
But on other news, poor Atticus was left with no Rei but instead Magic fairy boy. Atticus has never been in a brawl like this, he has never even been in a real fight. Sure he's had lessons on waving around a sword and some hand to hand combat experience but he's never put them to good use! He was like a puppy in a really big nasty dog brawl. All Atticus could do at this moment was just jerk him out of the chair as a man came stumbling towards them. "Shouldn't we....you know get moving?" Atticus said, moving from the chair to the top of the table like a slippery little fish. At least Atticus was good on his feet, let's just hope he can keep on being slippery throughout this little....what the heck did you even call these things? "I knew ye slept with her!" the voices from the original table came startling close as Atticus soon found himself being pushed from the table top and into the pair fighting, letting out a gargled sound of panic as the men pushed him around like a paddle ball. "I didn't sleep with your pig of a wife!"
"Boys boys please, I'm sure his wife is beautiful and it doesn't involve having to-"
"You stay out of this pretty boy!"
"Excuse you that's Sir Pretty boy to you" Atticus said. Like that would be any better.
Atticus found himself having to dart away from the fight and back to Heulfryn, who he then thus grabbing onto his cloak and glared at the monsters fighting it out. "You think they would have some manners" he muttered, his hair even more screwy then before and he was sure one of them spat on his shoes, he would like to think it was spit at least. Oh dear lord please let it be spit.
Rei help me
But Rei was busy heading out the door with Nerys beside her, most of the time she spent pushing men away from the pair of them and creating a pathway for the two girls to exit from. And she did it with such practice it was almost scary, her face only holding a tinge of annoyance from having to push and kick her way through the ground just to get to that back door. "Next time maybe you should think about holding the meeting somewhere that isn't filled with idiots" Rei muttered, still holding onto Nerys's forearm with a vice grip only to release it when they got to the exit. She hadn't realized that she had switched so easily to Captain mode during that whole thing. And not even for the right person, but for some girl that wanted to kill a whole royal family. In fact touching her just made her sick to her stomach, Rei would rather punch her in the face then try and protect her any further. In fact she should have stayed back and protect Atticus, you know. The PRINCE OF KEVIOR
Oh great goddess she left the prince back there with some magic wielding stranger who was too pretty for his own good. Way too pretty....it's just those cheek bones we- REI. Stop. Focus on the now and not the cheek bones ( They held like a spell on them... ). Rei ducked her head down and only moved to exit the establishment with Nerys staying behind the girl promptly to glance back toward where the two boys were. He would be fine...he was sticking to Heulfryn like glue and probably only barking out whatever popped into his mind. Atticus's bark was indeed worst then his bite if you were to ask her on any given day. She looked away and focused back on her 'employer' in front of her. This better have been worth it.... she thought to herself, chewing on the inside of her cheek a little
-
Of course it was worth it. At least to Remus it was. "You know you go with that whole 'She slept with your best friend' thing a lot" muttered the short blonde beside him, her bangs pulled back from her face and into a tiny pony tail that fell back against her head. "If it works then I see no reason as to ditch it" Remus said and grinned down at her before looking up again as he walked toward the alley way to which he had left Will. "Oh yeah, when you use it multiple times it's okay but when I say when a girl's husband slept with another girl every other time it gets old" she said and huffed, her gray eyes looking away from Remus and toward the alley they were walking into. "Because you suck at lying"
"Not as much as you suck"
"I invented lying to these simpletons"
"Who says simpletons anymore?" Sybil and Remus's banter was a normal thing to them, all in good fun of course. But right now they had to get back in the game. Their boss had sent them purely because of this job they caught wind about, just a little whisper that some how made it to Remus's ear and then to the boss. Cause whatever Remus heard, was then played back to the boss man who then made it his job to get whatever it was. Sybil would rather be sleeping in bed or hitting the card tables back at their little base but she was alright coming along with this. She usually went where Remus went because, and she quotes "Is his favorite little blonde squirrel" which resulted in him getting punched. Hard. Anyway back to the present, once they came closer to the spot they left little Gansey, Sybil instantly hoped up onto some boxes ( Scrambled really, struggled a bit ) and sat down next to where the math boy was.
"How you liking your little job Gansey? Is it everything you hoped it to be?" She said, smirking slightly as she stretched out her arms while Remus stayed to the side, checking his silly little pocket watch ( which she lifted many times only to get smacked back for...his back hand was serious ) and then glance towards the two. It was so weird seeing Will outside his natural habitat with the math and writing....most of the time she just bothers him in his own office by using up all his ink and drawing dumb pictures over his papers. Either that or he would be at the tables himself, while she was working mind you so it only made it that much more fun to mess with him. But when he wanted to come along on this little mission it was....surprising? A pleasant surprise. Even though she tried to talk him out of it, he still wanted to come along. "Maybe next time we can get you to hold a carriage for us, like a little stable boy" She teased further, only looking up when Remus gave a small cough when noticing two females exiting the place they just sent up in a ruckus. The red head and the Lyriad girly.
"Remus you any chance related to the one?" Sybil asked with a smirk
"No I am not"
"You're right....you're not really a red head. You're just a wannabe"
"A wannabe that can easily cut your pay"

《 Guess who's back? Back again ~ 》 《 tbh I can't decide what I ship here, if I wanna ship things other than swible - always swible but like there could be Atticus/Nerys and/or Heulfryn/Rei but like Nerys/Rei could be like the most intimidating couple on the block and oh god Atticus/Heulfryn 》
Nerys stayed in step with Rei, the two of them doing their best to sneak around the edges of the sudden brawl. A difficult feat, apparently, because men kept popping up in front of them anyway, too distracted to notice they were about to run over a pair of girls they had to have at least a foot on. My god, she thought, men are crazy. People who had nothing to do with the original accusation were handing out fists to faces like it was some kind of holiday, and she was one hundred and ten percent sure the barkeeper would have to invest in some new kitchenware, based on the crunch of glass and ceramics beneath her feet. Rei kept a hold of Nerys’s arm, tugging her out of the way every time someone came a little too close for comfort. Nerys didn’t really need it - she knew how to handle herself in a crowd like this anyway - but she wasn’t about to stop to tell Rei to lighten up on the vice grip. Besides, being attached to the girl was one way to make sure they didn’t lose each other in the crowds - and for Nerys to make sure the girl didn’t slip away to sell her out. She had trusted the information of the job upon the girl - but that didn’t mean that Nerys trusted her yet.
They stalled as a man staggered a little too close, clamping a sweaty and bloody hand on Nerys’s forearm. She recoiled, cringing at the feel of his humid palm against her skin. She did not want to know where that hand had been, and she definitely didn’t want it touching her. But he didn’t let go - that is, not until Rei slammed the hilt of her sword into his gut, grabbing his forearm and twisting him away. Nerys blinked, surprised at the sudden motion - and pleased at the clear look of pain that split Sweaty-Hand’s face. Rei pushed the man away, spitting some curse or another after him and coming back to join Nerys. She would’ve liked to see the man suffer a little more (okay, it hadn’t been that bad, but c’mon, personal space. Respect it.) but… Escape. Still, she cast a look at the redhead by her side, giving a tiny nod of approval. Not half bad. She nodded at the other girl’s question. “Yeah. And before you say it; yes, it’s a little crazy to walk into something blindly like this. But I work off a little crazy - we’ll be fine. Trust me,” she said, as if it were easy to throw your trust into something like that. But Nerys was just kind of like that; she took the risks, and if they backfired on her, she figured out a new way to solve the problem.
Heulfryn, on the other hand, was not overly fond of this turn of events - not just for the fight but… Eius. It was as if the kid had never been witness to a brawl, before. And maybe he hadn’t. But that didn’t mean Heulfryn was happy with being stuck with the newbie. Nerys and Rei had already made it about halfway across the room, and where was Eius? Climbing on top of the table. He was quick, at least, but he was moving in the wrong direction. They were supposed to be heading down and towards the back door. Not up and out of the way, in plain sight of all the guards. “What are you doing? Get dow-”
As it turned out, he didn’t need to finish his growled request, because gravity and the original pair of brawlers was to take care of that for him. Heulfryn lept out of the way as Eius came crashing off the table (thank the gods, landing on his feet). The boy was swept away with the pair of fighters, trying to reason with them. Oh gods help him. Where had this kid even come from? He stepped forward, muttering a choice string of curses - many of which probably hadn’t been used by the general populace in the last two centuries - as he strode toward the helpless boy, ready to drag him from this tavern if it came down to it. He wouldn’t leave him behind, as much as he may be tempted to, unless it really came down to a tight situation - then he’d have to weigh his options. But Heulfryn wasn’t exactly worried about the bloody mess of mortal men before him, not when he could paint the walls with their nightmares and see how it suited them if he so chose. He let out a low snarl as Eius grabbed hold of his cloak, casting the young lad a sharp look. “About done, are you?” He questioned, grabbing hold of the boy’s arm. He wasn’t losing him again in the brawl. Once they got into that alley, however… “Just stay close.”
--
Will’s huffed at Sybil’s question, shooting the little blonde a look as she hopped up on the stack of boxes beside him - it left her just a little taller than he was, which was approximately the height of a short giraffe, and built like one too. But it was a good-natured huff. “Oh, it’s been lovely. You really come to appreciate the freshness of the air.” He said, smiling at her. Because honestly, when was the young man not smiling? Well, besides when he was crunching numbers, actually - then he usually had a focused furrow between his brows, and much less than a smile on his lips. Not that it made him unhappy, but he was usually focused. He staged an exaggerated deep breath. “Smell that? Eau de Kevior, I like to call it.” Nevermind that ‘eau’ was a word for water, not air, a fact he knew very well. And the scent of the air was about as appealing as taking a bath in a pigpen.
Sybil wasn’t done, however, and he grinned further at her next round of teasing. Oh, he wasn’t about to lose today. Not after she’d come and scribbled all over his work the day before. Wasting all his ink. Did she know how expensive it was? And the boss kept adding it to Will’s tab when it was clear he shouldn’t have run out so quickly. “Next time?” He echoed, tilting his head slightly to look at her. “So you do enjoy my company, Sybil Rye. Which is good,” his grin spread further, green eyes alight with amusement as he leaned towards her slightly. “Because I can think of a number of ways we could spend our time in a carriage.” He leaned away quickly, not giving her a chance to hit him for that one.
He straightened a little as a pair of girls emerged from the back door of the Selene. Were these the people they were waiting for. Based on Remus and Sybil’s reactions, it was safe to assume so. Will swallowed. He was used to tough women, obviously, given the company he kept but… he decided then and there he shouldn’t cross these two. Not that he had a very good track record of not doing things he knew he shouldn’t do but… One of them was about Sybil’s height, amber haired and blue-eyed, with a sword strapped to her waist that made his own dagger seem like a sewing needle. The other was of obvious Lyrian descent, with the clothes of a seafarer. Was she a… pirate? Dear gods. Behind them, another pair came out the door, these two a pair of men. Will cleared his throat, looking over at Remus. “Well, if we’re all here… Why don’t you take it away, Hawkins?”

[ I'm ready for the Swible. I'm ready for all the ships No more Lemur though xc ] [ So I wasn't the only one thinking that they would make an adorable couple?? Lol I like the idea of AtticusxNerys and ReixHeulfryn but I also like the kind of idea of NerysxRei and HeulfrynxAtticus too idk. It's hard cause I love the idea of Atticus and Nerys mending their ways to become a thing and then Heulfryn and Rei breaking through their tough outer shells to be all Celena and Chaol style. But the idea of Rei and Nerys together too like, two kick butt females but having a relationship that would remind me so much of a ship in Percy Jackson between these two girls ( I can't remember their names ) with one being sweet and the other really tough.] [ But Atticus and Heulfryn like....come on I shipped it so fast. it's like Destiel in Supernatural but yeah idk. I got excited and blabbed so much x~x ] [ I can't think of any other group they would be a part of that isn't a bird ]
Atticus could only nod at Heulfryn, taking the mans advice as they maneuvered out from the establishment while avoiding some of the horrible characters. It was just ....how on EARTH did people get this way?! It was disgusting. It was....so unclean. He was letting Heulfryn drag him through the tavern and out the back door without any complaint whatsoever. It was basically just him obeying the mans orders and walking along with the flow. He didn't want to get punched, kicked, spat on, or any of the above. He just wanted to get out and be in the semi-fresh air. He just wanted out. When they did get out though, Atticus was clenching onto Heulfryn's cloak and frowning so deep it could be comical. He released Heulfryn after a moment, looking up to see Rei with Nerys who was joined by oh wait. MORE PEOPLE. EXCITING. NOT. He was half tempted to just out right state he was the prince of Kevior and was just following Rei who was the captain of the guard, who was following Sir Cheekbones. He had thought she had a gambling problem and would thusly just like to leave with a mild beating if they could have that. Then he would slunk home and then crawl into his covers that probably cost more then his shoes and sleep. Forever. "You two look like you had fun" Rei said and raised an eyebrow to the two men, both of which looked unhappy with the other.
Atticus held up a hand and gave the most sassiest look of his life to her that read clear and simple Don't even test me Rei. She nearly busted a gut looking at him.
But there was other things to worry about. Such as the fact of the 3 new people standing in front of them. Rei seized up the small group quickly, frowning slightly as she took her mental notes. The first man she spotted right away was the one with the blood red hair and eyes as blue as hers. For a moment she nearly blurted out brother but it was clear this man was not her brother. Why? Because all her brothers were somewhere else....probably locked away for a very long time or still doing their disgusting jobs. This man was shorter then average, blue eyes so intense it made a chill crawl down her back. And the way he dressed....it would put Atticus to shame on a good day. The second man of course had this head of golden brown locks, and wore the same expensive clothing as the red haired man. But he seemed a lot less...intimidating and more....flirty. And then there was shorter girl he was speaking to ( she also caught those last words.... ) who by a stroke of dumb luck the man had missed her hand by a inch. Any slower had the stranger been to the shorter girls hand and he would have had a bright red mark dressing his face.
But the girl was about Rei's height, short blonde hair and freckles dancing across her face. Gray eyes and a now scrunched up nose and pink cheeks. "I can think of a couple things too and it involves beating the snot out of you" She huffed at him. Even with her beat red face she didn't deny that she wouldn't like whatever it was he was egging at. Which only made her face even more warm
Rei could only tip her head to one side as the 4 pairs finally met back together, Atticus slinking to her side and looking a bit cranky from his little adventure. "Didn't you enjoy spending time with Heulfryn?" Rei asked Atticus who just scowled. "And what is that on your pants?" Rei muttered. Atticus cursed and made to clean what he thought was spit from his pants, scowling a little more. He let out a long sigh however to calm himself and just looked to Rei as with a silent plea to leave before they got into this too much more. But they were kind of already deep enough into this. Too late for backing out now don't you think?
Remus looked towards the two when they bickered, lifting an eyebrow at them but with a sly smile on his lips. Just kiss already and get the tension out of here.... Remus thought silently. Last time he had said that he earned a swift kick in the butt from Sybil. They both got flustered so easily. But there was money to be made and things to be done right now. And Remus couldn't afford to lollygag with these people any more then they have. "Gladly" Remus said with a sharp snap of his pocket watch while he gestured for the group to come closer. "Closer kids come on, I don't bite I swear. Only if I have to" He said with a chuckle, meant to be a light joke. "Hurry up Remusssss" Sybil muttered as she leaned back on her hands, only reaching out to flick Will on the ear a bit, waiting for the introductions to get out of the way.
Remus only rolled his eyes at the girl, before setting his eyes back on the group. "Anyway I'm sure you are all wondering why you are here but frankly I don't care what you are all wondering" He began, classic Remus fashion. "My name is Remus Hawkins you may or may not heard of me nor do I care about that as well. This is William Gansey and then the little fire cracker is Sybil Rye. We are all a part of a little group called.....The Crows. Simple and to the point" Remus began as he lifted up his hand and pulled down the fabric of his sleeve to show his wrist. A tiny Crow with both wings extended and a thin circle surrounding it. Rei tensed up slightly, almost letting out a low groan as she thought about this group. She's heard of it....she's heard of all their little jobs and adventures. They made it almost impossible to actually arrest or even pin a crime to. They were slippery and somehow always come out looking innocent. She should have known...she should have been prepared to actually meet some of these crooks. These Crows.
"Anyway, we heard about your meeting and the job...the money along with it is so....enticing. Tempting. And I know that you girl...um Nerys was it? You have some with you right now. With a shiny little ruby tucked in there. Want to kill someone eh?" He said, winking his icy blue eyes at her with a smile on his lips before clearing his throat and looking toward the others. "We listened in for a moment you know, thought we get some info before we really attempt to approach you. And I could gather some stuff from just watching..." Remus drawled on and shrugged. "The Lyrian is a pirate as far as I can tell, Magic boy here is well...I don't know yet. But I guess I will won't I? Then there's this girl...you have experience in doing this sort of thing don't you? Killing?" Remus said with a wave of his hand, making Rei glance away from the man. Atticus could only look at each person in turn, freezing up when it was his turn to be called out. "And you seem to be some pretty boy from a merchant area. Looking for a thrill. Maybe pick up a lover" Remus said, making Atticus blush slightly as he stood there, trying to not roll his eyes.
Cause he didn't want to roll them at this bunch. They frightened him....especially the short blonde one looked ready to bite him.
"And this job! Oh this job! It's such a big order, I mean kill a whole family! The Royal family I mean that's pretty...." Remus huffed and smiled, like he was proud of them somehow even though he has never seen them before. "Pretty stupid if you ask me" Sybil scuffed from where she sat, standing up on the boxes and shifting so that she could rest her arms on Will's head, raising an eyebrow towards the one with the cheekbones and the one with the pretty smile. She glanced at Remus looking for permission to speak in his little speech and earned a little nod. "I mean come on. You got a pirate, a touch girl, and two pretty boy faces with one wielding magic? And telling from how you all acted around each other in there I don't think you would last 2 seconds against the guards or even the Captain" She went on and let out a long sigh. "You would all be dead before you even reach the Kings chambers"
"And your point being?" Rei ventured, her eyes narrowed the whole time while these people blabbered. Sybil only grinned before looking to Remus who grinned right on back to his two companions. "Well....that's where I think Gansey can cut in. We all had a share talking"
"But I don't want to hear him talk"
"...I bet you would like it if he said other stuff to ya...."
"What did you say Hawkins?"
"Nothing..."

《 so ready I know *cries* 》 《 idk. I. Don't. Know.
Nerys x Rei could also be kinda like Chaolaena I mean Rei is all responsible and stuff and Nerys is… less so cx. also Heulfryn x Rei reminds me 100% of this one ship from a book 》
---
Nerys stared back at the little group assembled before her, the ones who had summoned them with that little note. Well, it wasn’t an ambush after all - in fact the three people in front of her seemed all in all pretty relaxed about the situation. Unless they had backup out somewhere she wasn’t aware of, on the rooftops or otherwise. She figured she’d take her chances. They were an… odd little trio. Perhaps not as odd put together as her own newfound crew, but still. The first, who seemed to be the apparent leader, was a redhead - not particularly tall, dressed extravagantly. The other man, probably around her own age, was nicely dressed as well but… more haphazardly. His shirt was a bit wrinkled, golden brown curls a little ruffled - though perhaps that last bit had something to do with the little blonde girl, with whom he’d been laughing as they’d come out. He was kind of cute, but a little too boyish for Nerys’s taste, what with his lightly freckled cheeks and beanstalk-ish build - and obviously preoccupied with other ventures. The third and last of the group was the blonde in question. She was small, but Nerys knew better to assume anything based on a girl’s size. The small ones could be vicious.
Heulfryn listened as the red haired man - Remus Hawkins, of course, who he had heard plenty about (it seemed he did live up to the rumours about his wardrobe; the man was better dressed than the chattering group of aristos from which he’d plucked his little faerie girl) - got into his little speech. Remus Hawkins, one of the frontrunners for the Crows, one of the leading gangs in Noridi - another fact that went unnoticed by the greater majority of the public. Yes, Noridi was a sunny, peaceful capital city on the surface. It sat just above a booming underground. And William Gansey; he’d certainly heard that name before as well. The former lieutenant of the Tachnà Madraì, otherwise known as the House of Wolves and one of the Crows’ main rivals. Gansey’s name had been popping up all over the place about a month prior, when he’d made the switch. He had to say, although he did have the kind of flirtatious look about him, he fell rather short of his womanizing reputation.
Heulfryn bristled a little at Hawkins’ flippant description of him. Magic boy. What a joke. I could splatter you against the walls in your sleep, he thought, but held his tongue. He’d like to hear them out quickly and get on with things - he still had an annoying aristo girl to free from permanent enslavement. He cast a look at his companions. Yes, they were a little bit of a ragtag lot; he wouldn’t deny that, and he didn’t particularly approve of some of them, particularly the one he’d just had to drag through a tavern brawl and - oh dear gods, was he blushing? What did this kid think he was doing here? He turned his attention back to the Crows, fixing them with a less than welcoming look. Then again, Heulfryn rarely looked approachable - particularly since it looked as though you could cut yourself on his face. Those cheekbones, though… Nerys seemed to find issue with her own labelling, as he distinctly heard her mutter “privateer” under her breath. Somehow he thought she switched between the two words whenever it convenienced her.
Will blinked as Remus turned the speech over to him. He straightened, preparing himself to speak, although he hadn’t planned on it. Which was fine; he was pretty good at that kind of - he let out a low, slightly strangled cough as he caught Remus’s comment, skillfully masking it under a chance to clear his throat. It wasn’t… Well, actually, he had no idea what it was. He and Sybil - as if; she’d probably gut you before you had a chance to actually try anything. And he hadn’t, despite all the flirting. He just liked to mess with her and well… He and Sybil weren’t anything. “Gladly, Remus,” He started, composure regained almost instantly. “As Sybil, darling, here took the liberty of pointing out, you lot would almost certainly fail greatly at this task you’re trying to accomplish - kudos for guts, I must admit.” He nodded to them, as though he did appreciate this wildly insane idea they had. Which likely he did - Will loved a good crazy idea to shake up the usually boring politics of the Noridian Underground. “So here’s the deal; you need numbers, plans, experience - all things the Crows have in plenty. Things we are offering to you - in exchange for a generous cut of the profits you no doubt have been promised for doing this.”
Not a chance, Heulfryn wanted to growl at them - would have growled, were it his job to contract off. He worked independently, not under a Crime Lord. That was how you got stuck affiliated with a particular group, and he’d never thought attachments to mortals served the immortal well. But it wasn’t his decision - that responsibility fell, unfortunately, solely on Nerys.
He looked to the young woman in question, who looked to be debating this offer herself. Nerys raised her chin, regarding the Crows speculatively. They did need more power behind this operation - no matter which way they took it, as soon as they got to the palace they would find themselves outgunned and outmanned. But a few extra sets of hands, and minds, could be the difference between a life of future riches and one behind bars… It had never been about the money for her, anyway. Though it didn’t hurt. At all. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t haggle. “I’d need evidence before I promise anything - of your assets, what you can offer us.” She said straight up. No fencing around business at the moment. “And lodgings. For myself - and my companions if they desire it. Then we’ll talk about payment.” She straightened, rolling her shoulders back. “The frowny one here is Rei; the pretty boy’s Eius; and cheekbones over there is Heulfryn. I’d say he’s not as scary as he looks but I’m pretty sure he actually bites.” Heulfryn offered her a very sophisticated hand gestured, which she mirrored before glancing back at the Crows. “I’m Nerys.”

[ swible times are coming. come on will and sybil....become cannon ] [ remus would honestly ship himself with himself if he could. ] [ what ship? Yeah that's what I thought. It would be really adorable, but idk what to ship. It's so much, so many possible ships that can take place. ] [ and this post is just a jumbled mess ew I'm sorry the flow is so janky ]
Sybil turned her chin up slightly at Nerys's words, raising an eyebrow while the corner of her lip turned up slightly as if to say You kidding me right? But sadly as she looked to Remus he only nodded with a cheerful grin plastered on his face. "Of course! Anything you need we have. We can even help with further addictions if you need them" Remus said, ignoring the scuff he heard escape Sybil's lips. "Nice to meet you all, I think we will all be great friends. And if not well...we'll see about that" He said as he looked at them, as if sending a silent message to them that if they weren't friends then well they were enemies. And he didn't take kindly to enemies. Sybil on the other hand just rolled her eyes and climbed off the boxes and to the ground, stretching out her arms above her head. "Yeah yeah this was a great and all but can we move it. I don't know how much longer I can stand it out here" Sybil muttered. "Hm yes I suppose we should talk somewhere...more kindly. I just wanted to make sure you didn't go scampering off Sybil you tend to do that you anti-social butterfly" Remus said and grinned down at the girl, who only huffed and shrugged off his comment. Whatever. She didn't really need anymore commentary from Remus Hawkins. He was already bugging her more then Will had been, which was rare.
Anyway, those little jabs meant nothing....at least to Will she thought it didn't. To her well....maybe it was something else.
Rei on the other hand was looking back and forth between Nerys and Remus and the other crazy heads. "Frowny one?" She muttered, while Atticus nodded in agreement. "You are frowny Rei...very frowny" Atticus said, earning a swift jab in the side. "I don't think I should be out and about any more...this is lasting longer then I had expected it to be" She said, when Remus gestured to Will to go on ahead of him, as well as the rest of the little newbies. "Oh why? You got a bed time now?" Sybil said over her shoulder, hearing a growl from Rei as a quick answer. "I have other places to be" She said, not at all forgetting she was indeed not a real assassin. At least not a legit one, she was a Captain and was in charge of other things. Not to mention Atticus was a PRINCE NOT A SWIFTY PERSON. "Lighten up Red head...am I going to expect a lot of frowny faces from you and cheek bones over there?" Remus said behind them, herding them out of the alley and into the open where he looked for the carriage he had left....somewhere. "Now kids I know this is going a completely different direction but your boss lady here needs some proof of what we can do. And I don't disappoint now do I?"
"Sometimes...You never got me a dog like you said"
"That's different....Will can get you a puppy"
"Oopy doopy doo. Next thing you know he'll be asking me for courtship" Sybil muttered as she stuffed her hands into her pockets, letting out a sigh as she looked around for the carriage that Remus had parked somewhere...did they get high jacked again? "Is that not normal?" said a new voice in her ears, it was the uhhhh....pretty boy one. Eius or whatever ( When really we all know it's Atticus being Atticus ) He was looking down at her with those big hazel eyes and his black hair flopped down when clearly by how it curled it was use to being slicked back from his head. "Is what not normal?" She muttered raising an eyebrow. "For someone to ask you of courtship...I would think you would be asked that a lot" Atticus said and smiled down at her. What? Sybil raised an eyebrow at him, opening her mouth to say something but ended up closing it. "What's that suppose to mean? Are you sniffing some mushrooms or whatever?" She said with a snappy tone to her voice, turning her head sharply and moving away from him. Atticus stood back where he was, a little shocked at the blondes behavior.
Why did all the short ones have to be the moodiest?
"Still wanna play with these dogs?" Rei muttered beside Atticus as Sybil walked out in the middle of the road and began to snap at those crossing her path about where the carriage was. Atticus cringed slightly, looking down at his hands before looking back up at Rei and letting out a sigh. As much as he wanted to turn back and go to his little palace and act like none of this happened...everything was going to fast now. They were both in too deep if this group was as successful as they made it sound like. "I can keep up with the big dogs" Atticus replied before following the group toward a large pitch black carriage, the horses colored with a rusty red brown pelt. It certainly looked...ominous but familiar. "We're all gonna fit in there?" Atticus muttered as he took note of how many there was and how many could really fit in that tiny carriage. Well maybe not a normal sized carriage...it kind of looked like the royal carriage but like painted black and-
WAIT.
Rei shoved Atticus to the side when she too caught the similarity to the carriage and to the one royal carriage that went missing a couple months ago. These idiots were the ones to steal it?! She thought as she looked at the carriage and then back to the group. Remus opened up the door, while Sybil hopped up to the front. "This is...a royal carriage...." Rei muttered out loud, looking to Remus Hawkins who only nodded with excitement. "Well it was...now it's a Crow Carriage! Looks so much better in black then that horrible silver color. I mean come on...everything goes with black" Remus said and chuckled as he ushered the others inside. "You all gonna hurry up and squeeze in?! Or am I gonna have to come back there?" Sybil said from up front, the large seat that would normally seat two made her look even smaller then she was before. "Patience Sybil. You need to work on that temper" Remus said with a short tsk of his tongue. Rei could only cringe, looking at the carriage and shifting slightly where she stood. Now....Rei wasn't at all afraid of small spaces but she....she didn't like being close to other people. It made her feel small and cramped and just....uncomfortable. Atticus would be fine. He was use to being crammed into tiny spaces over and over again because he was a prince. He didn't have a choice. Her on the other hand? She was use to being on a horse where she could kick her legs and not really hit someone else.
Atticus looked back at Rei before climbing in, seeing her little twinge of hesitance. "Rei?" He said with a little tone of worry in his voice. She was just looking at the carriage like it was....some death trap. She edged back slightly and for a moment he thought she was gonna make a run for it...that is until she stopped herself. And seemed to force herself to go into the carriage. "Don't worry about me...Eius" she said as she passed Remus and the others, making sure to cram herself into the corner and give as much of a 'Don't sit too close' vibe to her as she could. She looked back to Atticus who only let the others climb in before following. Great...so Rei was in a iffy mood and he had to choose to either sit next to Frowny face #1 or Frowny Face #2 with high cheekbones orrrrrrrr.....he could sit next to pirate girl which wasn't all that bad. But then again he would be sandwiched between scary Red head guy who looked like he could back hand someone faster then his mother. Or he could sit next to bean pole...well he wasn't really a bean pole but he rather not. Just because he guessed he was having the lady troubles with the blonde.
Atticus knew about the lady troubles...try courting a very spoiled Exotic Princess from the kingdom of Le'all...and having to listen to her sob stories for hours on end. Thank goodness for that sudden tidal wave.
Remus though could understand somewhat about lady troubles...and guy troubles. And boy if there was one thing he could say is...don't try courting two different people cause then there is a lot of explaining to do if they were to ever meet. "Come on boy" Remus urged as he nudged Atticus and nodded to the carriage, waiting until everyone else found a place to sit before he did. He didn't care where Will or Sybil sat to be honest. As long as they weren't sitting right next to each other....the tension is just suffocating. Then again he didn't know about these kids....all these emotions and that ones cheekbones could cut someone. "We can arrive at our little base and show you everything you can be offered, as well as maybe see some handy work we picked up a few hours ago...hopefully he's still breathing. I think we left him alive right Will? I think so...."
"What?" Atticus muttered, his eyebrows lifting at Remus who just grinned like it was a slip of his tongue. "Oh nothing...but I seriously hope he's still alive...he owes me a new suit...." Remus muttered cracking his knuckles slowly. Looking at them with that happy smile and just....What was wrong with these people? Why is he always smiling? Well Rei knew. Remus Hawkins was known to be more of a Phantom or a Cheshire Cat....Will Gansey was more the flirty type. The guards in the palace referred to him as the Prince of the Wolves. And Sybil well....she could only guess she was who Giddon referred to as 'Little blonde.....witch'
