Warriors has a lot of inconsistencies. A LOT. It's to the point that almost everything that has happened in the earlier books has a counter to it. In the arc where there is no plot cohesion, called Power of Three, almost everything that carries over to Omen of the Stars and later books has been negated in some way.
Lets start with the main plot which is the prophecy. The words are “There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.” Ignoring the fact it seems to imply that the prophecy refers to Firestar’s grandchildren and not his great grandchildren like Dovewing, a lot of things are not the same. The prophecy implies that the three are powerful. Powerful like Starclan, possibly more so than Starclan. The three mentioned are like gods in human form. Starclan doesn’t know where the prophecy comes from and states that they don’t multiple times. Jayfeather even has a scene in Eclipse where he thinks in his mind that Starclan’s time is over and that he and his siblings will soon replace them. That’s pretty intense. In Omen of the Star’s that isn’t the case. Instead the three are like delegates, chosen by the very old members of Starclan to protect them from destruction. They don’t do much at all and aren’t more powerful than Starclan in the slightest. This is intensified by Starclan removing their powers.
Then there is the Dark Forest. The dark Forest is shown to not be organized and the living have the ability to leave with enough will power. This is also the case in the new prophecy arc. In Omen of The Stars the Dark Forest is organized and you can’t leave even if you want to. This could be interpreted as the Dark Forest gaining power but then Crookedstar’s promise showed the Dark Forest with a little bit of organization contradicting both tnp and pot’s canon. Furthermore fading isn’t a factor in pot. When Lionblaze rebels Tigerstar doesn’t try to kill him. He instead tortures him with nightmares and instead of going for killing Lionblaze he just taunts him. Maybe it’s his arrogance getting to him but it doesn’t change the fact Lionblaze tells him there is no need to kill him, because he is already dead. This could be chalked up to ignorance but that doesn’t explain why Lionblaze never mentions it in oots.
This brings us to Lionblaze. The only thing about lionblaze that carried over to oots was his name and design. After Lionblaze mentions he was once in the dark forest both he and Jayfeather seem to forget that ever happened. His knowledge of Tigerstar’s fighting moves is never taught to Thunderclan. His knowledge about the Dark Forest and tTigerstar and Hawkfrost are never talked about. He calls the dark forest minions knowing traitors that should be punished despite the fact he knows how manipulative and coercive its members are. He never tries to help Ivypool out with at least an empathetic chat. He never tries to return to the Dark Forest to help spy. His time in the Dark Forest is literally never mentioned after The fourth Apprentice. Its like the series forgot it ever happened. Even his personality isn’t the same. In pot he was moody and walked around with a scowl. In oots he is happier and more optimistic. Perhaps that is Cinderheart’s positive influence on him but the shift is kind of jarring. Also the series forgot that Lionblaze knows how to swim.
Hollyleaf’s arc mostly stays the same but that doesn’t stop the erins from changing Ashfur’s death. Hollyleaf murdered Ashfur in cold blood but Bramblestar tells the clan it was an accident. Hollyleaf privately and vaguely acknowledges the lie in the forgotten warrior but then the Ultimate guide decided to make Bramblestar’s version of events canon. Considering what happened to Lionblaze, perhaps Ashfur’s death IS an accident now. Maybe what Ashfur did in pot isn’t canon either and that’s why he is in Starclan.
Now we move on to Crowfeather’s family. In Power of Three we see how Crowfeather is both verbally abusive and neglectful of his son Breezepelt. We see Nightcloud tell him that in an indirect way in The Sight. It is emphasized that Breezepelt’s anger comes from how Crowfeather treats him and that Crowfeather is not kind. This carries over a little in the first half of oots. In the Last Hope however the story changes to Crowfeather being a distant father whilst Nightcloud vilified him to Breezepelt and coddled him, this creating Breezepelt’s bad temper. The Ultimate Guide continues this trend. Breezepelt is suddenly Nightcloud’s fault and Crowfeather is innocent despite everything in pot saying otherwise. Crowfeather even embraces Leafpool’s kits as his children despite rejecting them in sunrise and not really liking them before he found out they were his children. Its like pot never happened and we just imagined it.
Cinderheart was described as a reincarnation in pot and in the last hope she is changed to be possessed by Cinderpelt. That is mildly creepy. And Yellowfang from the original series was replaced by an annoying Leafpool wannabe in Yellowfang’s secret.
It seems like the only things in pot that carried over to oots was Jayfeather and Sol. Everyone else seemed to change in some way as the series progressed.
