Spottedleaf was killed off twice so "Firestar wouldn't have to choose between her and Sandstorm" and to "see the better side of Spottedleaf". But why? We all know very well that Firestar clearly loves Sandstorm over Spottedleaf. Spottedleaf just needed to get over it and move on. The Erins could have just developed her into a better character by supporting Sand X Fire in a more healthier way instead of just killing her off in the Great Battle.
Ferncloud was also killed off because a lot of people complained about her. But seriously? Just show the better side of Ferncloud! Throw her into battles to defend her kits to prove that she is still a warrior.
I just don't understand why these cats have been killed off for these reasons when the Erins could have simply developed them into a more surprising character that we don't expect. It would have been more interesting instead of blaming us for Fern's death or whatnot and killing them off.
