Ⱥƅσυt
WolfClan is a Clan of large, hardy tundra cats of the north. They are renowned for their strength and speed, and their long claws and fangs, as well as their shaggy coats and large size, make them to almost resemble the wolves with which they share their tundra home, which is where their Clan name comes from. Because of their sheer size and strength, a group of WolfClan cats can hunt prey that normal cats could hardly dream of, such as beavers or even small deer.
Still, WolfClan cats don't rely on their strength and durability alone. WolfClan cats pride themselves on being quick-thinkers and efficient planners- after all, they need to be in order to be able to survive the harsh leafbares of the tundra with enough food and warmth. Even with all their adaptations though, WolfClan still doesn't exactly find it easy to survive, and each season brings its own hardships. In the end, on the cold and barren tundra only the strongest can survive. Ƭɾαđίϯίσɳȿ
WolfClan has a few unusual traditions, most of which reflect the harshness of their environment. Some are meant to weed out the weak, while others are meant to celebrate cats' accomplishments.
One very important tradition of WolfClan is their unique naming system. The style of the names are the same as any other Clan, with a suffix and prefix and rank-specific suffixes. However, the way cats earn their names is a bit unusual. Most kits, when they are born, are named quickly and without much thought; whatever comes to the parents' minds first- usually something about the kit's appearance. There are two reasons for this: the first is that many kits do not survive, and most parents are reluctant to give them an especially meaningful name if they won't make good use of it in their life. The second reason is that apprentices are allowed to choose their own prefix at their apprentice ceremony, which means every cat's name is something personally meaningful to them. Their parents then get to choose their suffix when they become a warrior, instead of receiving one from the leader; this is usually the time when parents give meaningful names to their kits, now that they have earned them.
Another unique tradition is that mentors choose their apprentices. Prospective mentors will often spend time with the kits even before their apprenticeship in order to learn their personalities and see if any are suited to them. Then, they inform the leader that they would like to take that kit on as an apprentice. In the case that an apprentice's mentor is not decided- either no mentor claims them, or multiple do- then the kit is allowed to choose. This is a rare event, however.
The cycle of apprenticeship is also interesting. Litters are almost always born in newleaf, and it is not only rare but considered irresponsible for a litter to be born any other time of the year. This means kits are usually ready to be made apprentices, and then warriors at the same time. Cats usually have a strong bond with the other cats of their age group because they grew up together from the time they were born. This also works well because apprentices are usually made into warriors around the same time new litters are being born, which means the former mentors are now available to get to know the new kits and choose their new apprentices.
Perhaps one of the most unique tradition to WolfClan is the concept of a "wolf hunt." Wolf hunts are named such because the cats learned to hunt this way by watching the wolves that they share their territory with. Essentially, it is a pack hunt for larger prey, and usually occurs for special occasions or during the winter when small prey is scarce. A large group of cats- usually five or even six- will go out with the intent of finding large prey such as eagles or small deer, stalking and chasing them much like wolves do before dragging the prey back to camp for a feast. It is a dangerous but lucrative way to hunt, and so the cats usually save it for important or emergency circumstances only.
One such time is when apprentices become warriors. When a group of apprentices is ready to advance to warriors, they will perform a wolf hunt as a group. How well they do on this hunt- the quality of the prey, the speed and efficiency with which they caught it, and the number and severity of sustained injuries- determines whether or not they will become warriors.
The last major tradition of WolfClan are the Solstice Feasts. On the Longest Day in greenleaf, the cats spend the day hunting and then feast as the sun goes down, thanking StarClan for the bounty and warmth of summer and the strength of the surviving kits, and asking for the survival of the Clan. On the Longest Night, the cats refrain from eating for the entire night and then feast at dawn. The night is a time of reflection, paying respects to all the cats who have died and the animals who have given their lives to feed the Clan. While the Longest Day is generally focused more on hope for the future and appreciation of kits, the Longest Night is for remembering the past and thanking the elders and the dead for their service. Ɽσȴɛpȴαy Ɽυȴɛȿ Follow the forum rules and ghost rules, which I shouldn't have to reiterate here. Primarily, though, no godmodding, spotlighting, or powerplaying.
Don't roleplay other people's characters, or otherwise control their actions in any way, without their permission first. Also, do not effect them in any major way (such as injuring, killing, or otherwise attacking them) without allowing them to respond first. Any instance where a character is injured or killed in such a way will not be considered "canon" unless the roleplayer of the injured/killed character deems it so.
No mary-sues/gary-stus, and no "-ests." Your cat can be very good at something, but it's difficult to say that they're the absolute best at anything. And they have to have some flaws. Otherwise, how would they get any character development?
Obviously, keep things pg. That means no very graphic descriptions of violence, no foul language, and nothing else that would be considered inappropriate for children. Queer characters are definitely allowed (thought I should specify since some people would consider that 'inappropriate').
Try to be descriptive and original. Make replies long enough for others to reply to without making them so long that they get boring (unless, of course, the only way to relay an event is through a very long post. Then, go for it). Don't be redundant; try to change posts up, and give more than just "He walked to the fresh-kill pile and got a mouse" or "She padded out of the warriors' den and sat down in the sun." Describe how they did it, what they felt like or what they were thinking, what their plans for the day were, or anything else to spice it up and add some scope to the character.
Keep characters realistic please. This goes for behavior as well as appearance. In reference to appearance, obviously cats aren't always going to be 100% realistic in how they look, but try to keep it believable if nothing else. So nothing crazy, like purple eyes or perfect star markings on their cheek. As far as behavior goes, just try to make them three-dimensional. Give them emotions and motives for doing the things they do, and make sure you keep their personality consistent. Give them realistic strengths and weaknesses that allow them to contribute to the Clan and grow as a character without being too perfect or so flawed that it's annoying.
I reserve the right to reject any players that I don't consider literate enough or to remove players who don't obey these rules or contribute to the roleplay in an interesting and constructive way.
If you are gone for more than two weeks without prior warning, I will remove you and your characters will go to the inactive section. I will not go chasing you down; liking your posts should be reminder enough.
If you claim a high-ranking position such as leader, deputy, or medicine cat, you must be especially active (check & update at least 6 days of the week, but preferably more). Everyone else should still be active, but as long as you don't trap other peoples' characters and are on relatively frequently, I'm not too concerned about activity.
All major roles (leader, deputy, medicine cats) must designate at least one other person who is online more frequently/at different times than themselves who they give permission to roleplay said leader/deputy/medicine cat if (and only if) they are needed in an emergency. This includes things like critical wounds that the medicine cats need to heal now, or attacks to camp that the leader or deputy must respond to, or anything else that needs prompt attention. These people will be listed as "alts." under the major character's claim.
As for everything else, it's just the usual: please don't leave and never come back; if you're gone for a very long time without prior warning or explanation (probably a month+) you will be deleted; if you break the rules you may be deleted depending on the severity of your offense; please use () [] or something of the sort to separate in-character from out-of-character; no spamming unless you are requesting someone to go somewhere. Ƭħɛ Ẅαɾɾίσɾ ℭσđɛ ❄ Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
❄ Do not hunt or trespass on another cat's territory.
❄ Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors.
❄ Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
❄ Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
❄ A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
❄ Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
❄ A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
❄ The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires or is exiled.
❄ After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
❄ Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
❄ No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
❄ The word of the Clan Leader is the warrior code.
❄ An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.

ℐσίɳίɳǥ This is a claim-a-cat roleplay, so you have to select a character/characters from those already listed below in the Clan. Given is each cat's age, appearance, a brief history, relationships (including former mentor, if applicable), three personality traits and two virtues (if applicable). For the most part, these cannot be changed; however, I will allow minor adjustments to the characters, both in appearance and personality. For example, you could change a personality trait from, let's say, grumpy to aloof, but you could not change it from grumpy to cheerful. They have to be similar, if not exactly the same. Same goes for appearance: you couldn't change a black cat to a white cat, or even a gray one to a white one. You COULD change them from gray to light gray, or their eyes from light green to dark green, or make other small adjustments such as giving them long whiskers or taking away their white tail-tip. Their age and relationships will remain unaffected, and you may only change two things about them.

Ƭɛɾɾίϯσɾɏ WolfClan territory is made up primarily of flat tundra, with few hills and even fewer trees. Far north, mountains are just visible over the horizon, but no cat has ever visited them.
❄ The camp is in roughly the center of the territory, overlooking a shallow river. It is a slightly elevated area of large boulders.
❄ The river flows through the territory, winding back and forth. It is wide but fairly shallow and slow-moving. It is extremely cold, even in greenleaf, as its source is presumably snowmelt from the mountains in the north. Most cats prefer not to get their paws wet, but during early greenleaf when the salmon fill the rivers, it is a great place to fish.
❄ Riverleap is a place near the southern part of the territory where the river flows downhill through a rocky patch similar to the one the camp is in. There are many small waterfalls, but most of the rocks are close enough together that a cat can easily jump over them without slipping. It is the best place to cross the river.
❄ The Boulderhill is a place in the northern part of the territory. It sits at a fork where a small stream splits off from the river, flowing around the Boulderhill. The Boulderhill is warmed by the sun, and is a good place to bask, as well as a good place to survey the territory.
❄ Pine Hollow is a place in the southwestern part of the territory, a large ravine or basin filled with a pine forest. It's not that large or dense, but it's a good place to find forest prey like squirrels, as well as where deer bed down (and therefore a good place to start wolf hunts).
❄ Caribou Trail is a wide patch of soil that leads from east to west (or west to east), crossing the river just north of the Boulderhill. It is the migration path the caribou take every year, and the foliage along that path is somewhat sparser than the rest of the tundra due to being trampled and eaten twice a year.
❄ Stone Island is a place where the river bends around a large patch of boulders (like the camp or Riverleap). A stream flows around the other side, which is easy to leap or wade across. Many mice and other small prey can be found in the cracks of the boulders, and the boulders themselves are good for basking.
❄ The Star Willow is where the cats speak with StarClan. It is on a small island in the west where the stream flows around it on both sides. Most of the island is obscured by the Star Willow's branches, which hang down to trail in the water. When inside its dense branches, it is almost like night, with pinpricks of light filtering through the shifting leaves like stars.
ℭαɱ℘ As mentioned above, the camp is on a raised boulderfield along the river. The location was chosen because it is near water, but elevated enough that it won't be flooded when the river floods with snowmelt in newleaf. Most dens are burrows dug beneath or between the boulders.
❄ The leader's den is closest to the river. It is a smallish burrow dug beneath a rock that somewhat hangs over the river. During newleaf, the water comes up nearly to the base of the boulder. This rock is called the Watchingstone, and is where the leader makes announcements to the Clan.
❄ The warriors' den is actually several burrows dug along the northern edge of the camp. Some are deep and warm, while others are little more than alcoves beneath the rocks. Younger warriors tend to be stuck with the worse dens, while older warriors move into the warmer ones. None, of course, are exposed enough that a cat would freeze to death, though; some are just more comfortable than others.
❄ The apprentices' den is a cave beneath a pile of stones next to the warriors' den, in the western part of camp. The natural cave was expanded by digging, and so the middle is open, with alcoves dug into the soil walls. The center is left open so apprentices can still play and practice even when it is snowy outside.
❄ The nursery is near the leader's den, in the southern part of the camp. It is an ancient wolf burrow, and so consists of a long and winding tunnel ending with a large cavern. The entrance has been partially filled with rocks and soil to make it more suitable for cats, but it is the safest and warmest den in the camp, perfect for kits.
❄ The elders' den is actually a burrow dug by cats that splits off from the nursery. It too is deep and warm, but not as large.
❄ The fresh-kill pile is more of an alcove dug under some stones between the nursery and apprentices' den. It is somewhat hidden to keep buzzards and hawks away and to keep the prey out of the sun, which helps it last longer.
