Captured. A feeling of defeat for anyone really. And even though Alice despised what she did for a sick mafia, she hated the feeling. Not being good enough was a punishment in itself, and yes so was getting her arms or head cut off, but emotionally it hurt more than any other feeling she has known so far. Maybe she should just run off, hide in a village. Or just escape from the guard and hide in the castle itself. That would be the last place anyone would think of searching. Even for an assassin, which must be highly skilled at not being seen or heard. Yes, that was it. She must run, hide, and keep her identity a secret. No one except for the guard has seen her face. She could pull it off long enough to figure out what to do. To get her priorities in order. She acted like she was debating whether or not to answer something. It would hopefully make him relax a little, as she would have the potential to work with them. Alice bit her lip, still hesitant. Her legs did not move at first, her muscles would tighten as she was just ready to run. But then, something inside of Alice told her to run already, and not be a sitting duck. She went underneath the knife he carried and began sprinting to the castle. She was not yet aware of what she was doing, running to the castle, but she kept moving anyways. Alice felt the breeze pull off her hood and once she stopped, a safe distance from the guard, pulled her cloak off entirely. If any of the herbalists saw Alice with her cloak, they would know who she is. As they had only seen the cloak, not her face. She was in panic mode now, pulling it off an throwing it into some bushes, she could escape at night and pull it back out. Alice went underneath one of the windows, it was high up, but she could manage. She started up, moving with what speed she could muster and found herself moving quickly, maybe it was adrenaline. However, she found herself climbing through the window and into a...bedroom? Great, how was she supposed to hide here? But it was too late, there was already someone here, and he looked of high authority.
(That can be your prince that she meets)

(yeeeee)
There was a storm brewing - Kaz could tell. The smell of rain was heavy even from inside the castle, and his bad leg ached horribly. The wind was harsh, whipping at the trees far below and plucking leaves from their branches. The sky was beginning to go grey, and Kaz wondered how long they had until the sky broke open and released a torrent of rain on the castle grounds. Though he longed to leave the castle, Kaz knew better than to attempt a climb in weather like this, with his leg weak and throbbing. One wrong move and he'd slip and fall to his death, which would be a horrible inconvenience to the rest of the royal family. Nothing like the threat of mountains of paperwork and public speeches to keep Kaz's parents from letting him accidentally kill himself. As it were, he simple paced around his room, gloved hands buried into the pockets of his slacks. He finally came to a stop, his back to the window, facing away from the incoming storm. He took his hands out of his pockets and pinched the middle finger of one of his gloves, pulling it off in one swift movement before doing the same to the other. Hands bare, he set the gloves onto his dresser. Just as Kaz was taking a step back, preparing to leave his room to bother one of the poor, helpless guards that strolled the halls, a loud noise had him spinning around and immediately going for the knife he kept hidden along his waistband. It was small but deathly sharp, engraved with Kaz's initials on the hilt. He paused when his eyes took in what lay before him, still tense with adrenaline. His window was ajar, the sill banging loudly against the wall as it was forced open by the wind, and what looked like a girl. "Usually people enter through the door," Kaz said, pointing towards the large, wooden entryway on his right but not taking his eyes off his unexpected visitor.

Alice had brushed herself off, wanting to rid herself of any dirt or dust that was still stuck to her. If she wanted to hide in the castle, she had to at least look the part. She could maybe pass as a guard in training, as they did not have as much armor, and quite frankly, she did not have any. She wore her usual archer's gear which included the tunic and pants. Her hair could not be pulled back as it was too short, so she just brushed her sweeping bangs out of her face. She sighed of relief, that is, until her breath was caught in her throat and it took all of her might for her to not stumble back an out of the window she had come through. There was of course, a person here. One of the prince's. She was told to be able to identify their faces so she knew who he was. The worse part of it all was that she always thought of him as handsome too. And although he did not know that she thought that, being in the same room was weird for her. But, if you had an intruder in your room, one would assume that it is a bit awkward as well. She opened her mouth to say something but then shut it again, trying to figure out how she would explain herself.
Alice began pacing the room and but her lip as she thought. She always paced and bit her lip, sometimes messed with her hair or loose clothing while she turned the gears in her brain. Alice stood with her feet together and turned towards the prince, finally deciding to say something. "Uh...um...funny story actually, you see I kind of showed up to the wrong place and then I..." Alice gave an awkward smile, she reached instinctively to her boot where she kept her daggers. She pulled one out and just played with it in her hands. "It was nice talking to you but I uh...have to...yes." She just finished what she was saying with a nod of her head and went over to the window. Swinging her legs over and ready to climb back down and maybe elsewhere. Hopefully he did not have any questions. But for some reason she could not find herself leaving yet, she hesitated

Kaz watched the girl carefully as she paced, eyes tracking her every motion. Part of him was expecting her to attack, not for any reason other than she gave off an edgy vibe. His dark eyes narrowed slightly. This was no ordinary girl - all castle dwellers knew exactly where his room was, and he couldn't think of one that would be forgetful enough to stumble in it on accident. Through the window, no less. This girl, whoever she was, was definitely not used to the castle grounds. She had to be an outsider. Instead of accusing her, Kaz kept quiet when she spoke, expression calm. When she pulled out a dagger, he felt his fingers itching for his knife, but he kept himself from unsheathing it. Something in her demeanor told him that, though he'd pegged her as a loose cannon, she was smart enough not to attack a prince in his own quarters with guards around every bend. She seemed dangerous, though. And Kaz had always been drawn to a little danger. "Don't," he said, as she began to climb back out the way she came in. He knew his mother would have a heart attack if she could see what he was doing, and it made him want to do it all the more. "Can't you see the storm? It's no time to be scaling up a wall, much less down one," he said.

Alice had just lifted herself up so she could turn herself around and climb back down from the ground in which she came. However, she stopped herself when he told her not to. Why would he tell her not to? He didn't know her, and her obvious clueless actions should have been a red flag that she did not belong here. Plus, she had weapons. Alice was a criminal, and criminals carried weapons, why would she be told to stay? And over a storm too. Alice had basically a storm brewing her mind as well. The people she worked for and their organization will not be pleased that she had failed and now it will cost her her life. Not that she ever liked the job, but if she was able to quit another way she would do it. There was no where for her to go except on the run. And the council was good at tracking people down, she would be nothing new. Alice remained still though, and turned her head to face him. "Why would you be concerned over my well being?" She asked with honest curiosity. No one ever cared about her physical or emotional health. Ever. Not even her parents who only occasionally remebered she was related to them. It was sad quite honestly. Alice added more quietly than before, but maybe it was audible to him. "Obviously no one has notified you why I was here..." her voice trailed off.

When the girl seemed to listen to his request, Kaz relaxed slightly, letting his hand fall away from his sheathed knife. Pieces of the puzzle began to put themselves together in his mind: her presence, her weapons, her attire, her skittishness. Kaz had always been clever, after all. As she turned to face him, Kaz let himself take a few steps forwards, his long legs eating up the distance between them effortlessly. He came to a stop a few feet away from her, giving her enough room so that she wouldn't feel constricted. He studied her face, mouth twitching into a small smile. "How would I live with myself if I let a beautiful woman put her life in needless danger?" Kaz took a single step closer, hands clasping themselves behind his back. "I know why you're here - I'm no fool," he said, voice gentle and light despite his words. "You were almost caught, weren't you? By the look on your face I'm going to take a guess and say you didn't complete what you came here to do, no?"

Alice blushed a little at his first words. They were nice to hear, as she did not talk to many boys to often. She trained with other women assassins and was obviously not about to mingle with villagers. So it was nice to hear the compliment. Even if he was just being polite. However, Alice froze at his next words, her eyes darted around the room. He caught on very quickly. She should never think she was in the clear. Something Alice should have taken from her training. She was always unable to go to one place for some reason, and it was usually because she killed someone there recently. The only place that she has not yet gotten nearly killed at was at the council. Not to say that they hadn't cut her before as punishment. She still has the scar on her arm. "Why don't you turn me in then?" She asked. He was odd to her. By now she would be dragged off to who knows where but she was still sitting here at the window, ready to jump half way down the wall. And he does nothing, doesn't even grab her arm to make sure she doesn't leave. Why though? Was this some kind of psychological trick? It would have to be. No one keeps an assassin in their house. "And I guess you can say I did not complete my task. But there is still time." She lied about the time. She had none unless she killed him as he was the closest and easiest target.

Kaz's smile widened at her words, and he stepped closer still, until they were nose-to-nose. His hands remained behind his back. "Now, I'm just guessing here, but something tells me you don't want the life of a stone cold killer. You seem much too conversational." His lips split into a grin, a spark of mischief in his coal-grey gaze. "I'm not screaming for the guards at this very moment because I can tell you're scared, is all." His eyes were suddenly sharp and intrusive, narrowing dangerously as he looked at her. "Still time, you say? I think you ran out of that a while ago. These jobs are meant to be quick and precise after all, aren't they? There's simply no way you're not a few ticks behind after whatever run in you had just before you broke into my room. You might be able to salvage the situation if you took out someone important to impress the higher ups, though. Do you think a prince would do?" Kaz's smile softened out. "The reason I haven't turned you in is because I've been standing right in front of you like a pig up for slaughter and you haven't made a single move to kill me. Why is that?"

Alice was slightly taken aback when they were almost nose to nose. His words hit her like the wind thay would come from the storm. She did not narrow her eyes like how he did to her, her's only widened. He knew her. And it was terrifying. He seemed to read people well, but he can not predict what she was about to do. He was no fortune teller. When he spoke, Alice wasn't even sure if she knew herself anymore. But why? Alice should know herself better than anybody but yet, she can not answer his questions. At least she didn't think she could until Alice found herself responding without thinking. "Because, it's been drilled into my head that if I can't do something right the first time, I shouldn't be alive anymore. Maybe I climbed up here so I can just jump and kill myself. Or maybe I was trying to get to the roof and use the knife I have to kill myself there." Alice told him, more confident than she felt. "It would be better than having my limbs cut off first and then my head last. Everyone I meet seems to have the wrong picture of who I am. Maybe I should die." She told him. Almost believing what she said to be true. It hurt to say that she should no longer be alive but if she went anywhere else they would all say the same thing. She can't stay on this window inbetween death either way her whole life.

(its been like five minutes why am i so invested)
Kaz was taken aback by her words, but his face remained impassive. He'd had years of practice - royal meetings he was required to attend were small tortures he sat through with a faux pleasant smile when he wanted nothing more than to scream his head off. His eyes, which lowered to her hands, were the only indication he was affected by what she'd said. When he met her gaze again, his expression was gentle. "Maybe," he murmured softly, searching for cracks in her armor. He had no doubt in his mind she'd done some terrible things - things people would want her dead for. But then again, what decent person hadn't? Kaz supposed that way of thinking was a testimony to his warped sense of company. He could help this girl. They'd known each other for mere moments, but Kaz felt drawn to her in ways he didn't attempt to dwell on. Despite the fact that she may very well have been sent here to kill him, he couldn't bring himself to turn her away. Maybe it was her eyes. Her body screamed control, but her gaze was alight with self-doubt. Finally, Kaz unclasped his hands, and brought one up slowly. As if afraid of startling her, her gingerly cupped her cheek, thumb stroking across the skin below her eye. "That's not what you truly want, though, right?"

Alice noticed his gaze go to her hands, maybe he was thinking. Her words may have effected him, but it was hard to tell. He was odd. He could read people, but kept himself a man of mystery. It was quite attractive actually. Although, she should not get ideas. She was a fugitive and right now Alice was in the worst possible position for a fugitive. At least, that was what she assumed. She did not know his intentions. She was not very good at reading people. Alice flinched slightly when he touched her face, she was not used to touch. Not the gentle kind. Not one that meant to help. She knew pain. That was what her life seemed to revolve around. "It might be. I can't live much longer any choice I make." She looked down at the floor and then back to him. She hesitated adding this last part. "They'll kill me once I get back. Even if I don't go back, they'll find me. They find everyone." She told him. He didn't seem like he meant any harm, and his eyes seemed to say something she could not understand, but she decided against saying much more. If he did decide to turn her in, her first move would be up. She can slit her throat on the roof and let the rain wash the blood away.

Kaz tilted his head, considering. His blood roared at her wince, internally furious that such a gentle touch would be enough to cause her to put up a defense. Part of him wanted to wrap his arms around her, show her every sort of affection she'd been depraved of, but he knew better. Instead, he let his fingertips trail across her cheek, skim her jawline, brush against the column of her neck. He thought carefully over his next words before he opened his mouth to reply. His gaze met hers unflinchingly, and he was sure to make his expression unreadable. Calming. Maybe a little concerned. "I can help you," he decided on finally, pursing his lips in thought. "I'm not naive enough to believe you would remain undetected, but I am the third most powerful man in this kingdom. You have a better chance of survival here than nearly anywhere. I know they'll kill you if you go back to them now. I know how they operate." Kaz stopped, backtracking. "My men are strong. Even when they find out you've abandoned them, if they attack you, they attack me. Imagine the war that would start." Kaz smiled, awfully cheery to be talking of potential bloodshed. "I know we've only just met, but I'm asking you to stay. I simply can't bear to watch you leave, knowing what awaits you."

Alice was still nervous when he kept his hand on her cheek, and then jawline, but worried her the most was when he touched her neck. The first thing she thought of was how he could strangle her. It sounded awful of course, but Alice always thought of the worse before it could be any better. She was unintentionally sort of comfortable after a few moments that seemed to last a lifetime as he touched her. She felt herself relax ever so slightly and she wanted to scold herself outloud for being careless but she did not. Alice did not want to appear crazy. Especially when he just offered her help. He seemed to think he knew them. And although he knew the people she worked for were evil, he did not know what happened behind closed doors. It was horrifying absolutely and utterly horrible. But she said nothing. She remained silent, her brow furrowed in thought as she weighed her options. The prince seemed ready to genuinely help her, and she trusted him slightly with that. "I would be glad to have help. But I don't want to hurt anymore people then I need to." She looked down at her knife. The knife that she had used to finish at least half the people she killed off. It was that cursed knife that reminded her of her obligations, her job, her life of pain.

Kaz studied the girl as she seemed to go to war with herself, obviously weighing her options. He felt her relax and that brought him some comfort - hope was not lost. She could be saved. He couldn't begin to fathom what her life had been like up to that point, but there was always time for change. Nothing was so damaging that it couldn't be fixed. Not with someone as determined as Kaz to do the fixing, at least. There was always hope. A genuine smile lit up Kaz's face, dark eyes bright. "Do I look so easily hurt to you?" he asked, gaze focused and sharp with wit. Kaz was a lot of things, but fragile had never been one of them. Though his fingertips had lingered at her throat, they traveled down her arm now, thumb skimming over her inner wrist. Carefully, so as not to spook her, he closed his fingers around the hilt of her knife, easing it gently out of her hand. He could tell she felt a tie to it, one that would most likely bring her nothing but harm. "Easy," he soothed, expecting to face some sort of recoil. No assassin, however reluctant, would part with his weapon so submissively.

The corner of Alice's mouth went up in the smallest of smiles. His smile was the kind that made others want to do the same. And she did, but she was not in the mood to give a wide smile. She was relieved when he moved his hand away from her neck. However, when it started going to her knife, she just gripped it tighter. So that was what he wanted to do. Take the knife. That was his idea the entire time he was talking to her like he knew her from somewhere. He wanted to save his own skin, not her's. She was hurt to say the least, but Alice should not have been. No one cared about her. She was not wanted. She was not loved. Alice's head shot up from where she was looking at the knife and turned to the prince. She sent him a glare, her eyes angry but hurt at the same time. She scooted closer to the edge of the window, ready to climb up or down, whichever she felt would help her last longer. Away from people. They were all cruel. She should not be trusting. She could not be trusted apparently either. Why was it her that this was happening to? What was she being punished for? Alice did not choose this life and no one seemed to understand that. No one understood anything.

Kaz froze, realizing his mistakes too late. His eyes were wide with surprise and regret, and he took a step to follow her. As he did, a crash akin to that of a thousand gunshots exploded around them, and for a second everything was bright white. Kaz realized in a split second that, while he'd been distracted with her, the storm had rolled in. Though there was no rain, but the sky screeched and demanded attention. As the light faded, it finally began to pour, water soaking everything near the open window. "Please, wait, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you." Kaz had raised his voice in order to be heard over the thunder. "I made a mistake - please trust that I only wish to help you. Don't leave." He was hesitant to move any closer in fear that it would drive her into diving out of the window just to get away. The rain was flooding in now, seeping through his clothes and hers in an icy torrent. He needed to get the window closed, but he didn't dare try.

Alice didn't look at him as he spoke, she was fighting tears that were dangerous close to falling down her cheeks. Even though the rain would hide them, the redness of her eyes if they were to fall would reveal that she did cry. She was not phased as the cold rain soaked her clothes and her. She could not care less anymore. Alice turned her head halfway to face him so he only saw her profile or one quarter of her face, "You want the knife gone? Then take it!" She snapped before turning to throw it. It went about an inch over his head like she planned it to and planted itself in the wall. She didn't want it anymore. She did not know what to do with herself anymore besides sit in the rain and hopefully catch hypothermia, best case scenario. As bad as the thought was, she felt it was true at the time. Was he just telling her things she just wanted to hear? That someone would help her? "I should have known other wise. I really am as dumb as I look." She remembered being told that by her higher ranking instructors. They picked on one kid per group and she happened tho be that one kid. And it continued every year. Not that anyone cared, they were just happy it was not them.

Kaz didn't even flinch when the knife sailed over his head. His eyes were locked on the girl in front of him, unshakeable. The wind whipped his hair and plastered his shirt to his chest and his leg ached horribly, but he paid the insignificant inconveniences no mind. He reached out for her, hesitant, for once out of his element. The next earth shattering boom of thunder propelled him into motion. He took a sweeping step forward and gathered the suddenly frail girl in his arms, pulling her close to him as the storm raged only feet away. One wrong step and they could both plunge to their deaths. "It's okay," he said, his body warm and solid against hers. He wondered, fleetingly, when the last time she'd been touched like this was. As much as he distanced himself from his family, he couldn't imagine what it would be like to not have someone there to chase away his nightmares. "You're not dumb. You're sharp and beautiful and lost, is all. It's okay. I see you." His voice was gentle, just barely audible over the screeching wind.

She did not fight him when he picked her up. There would be no point in it really. Alice knew she would lose, plus the fight in her had been lost to the storm. She faced her head away from the prince though. Not looking at him as he spoke. It sounded genuine, and she wanted to believe it was. Maybe it would not hurt to stay for now, and if things went downhill she can leave. Leave and face whatever she had to since there was no where else to go. Alice went pretty much limp in his arms. Not only did she find this touch foreign to her, she was too tired from draining emotions to do anything. So, like a doll, she just stayed in his arms. She supported most of her own weight, but did not move. Alice wanted to say something but decided not to. She was using what energy she had left to shiver. The way your body heats up from the cold. Alice did not violently shake but it was noticeable. "You better hope you mean that. For your sake and mine." Her voice shook with her body. Her temper was coming back, the one she could not use around the guard thay captured her. Now she was captive again, but hopefully in a much better environment.

Kaz felt her go limp against him, and it felt too much like giving up. He ran a palm up her spine, and could feel her shivering against his skin. He was in a similar state - the freezing water seemed to seep into his bones, freezing him in place. He laughed at her comment despite the bite in her voice and pulled back enough to him to look her in the eye. "I mean it. I do." Somewhat placated and only a little more confident she wouldn't try to bolt, Kaz slowly released her, moving past her to forced the window closed. Once he'd managed it, the silence was almost deafening. Kaz took a second to take in their states: wet and shivering, clothes plastered to their bodies. It was humorous to say the least, but he didn't laugh. Moving towards her again, Kaz laid a hand delicately on her shoulder blade, gaze searching. "How about I draw you a bath, yeah? You can warm up, and then we can talk. You can borrow some of my clothes if you like."

Alice wanted to laugh too when he did. He was one of those people where if he was laughing, or if he was sad, you felt you had to do the same. But she forced herself not to. She just clenched her jaw, trying to stop the shivering. She would never get warm in this state but she tried not to let it show. She stood still, looking out he window that he just shut. She would not go back out there again, at least until the storm passes. But her planning was interrupted when he spoke. She was shocked to say the least. "If I did use your clothes, none of them would fit. I'm 5'5". And you are...not 5'5"." She told him bluntly but with a bit of a joking voice mixed in. She tried to stay serious though. Why would he offer her something like that, as if though they were friends? Maybe she should just stay cold. It would be weird for her. "Are you sure though? You just met me." She asked, unsure as to what he was planning to do. He was probably just trying to be a good host but she kept her wall up from now it would best

(sounds good!)
Kaz couldn't stop the laughter that bubbled in his throat, and he shrugged, unconcerned. "I'm sure I have something that'll work. Have a little faith." He smiled, and used the hand on her shoulder to steer her in the direction of his bathroom, which was on the other side of his bedroom. It was spacious to say the least, the tiles cold enough to make him shiver. He hated it, but he hated the entire castle, so that was no surprise. "Positive," he responded, tilting his head to look at her. "I trust you." It was a crazy thing for him to say and he knew it, but he was almost surprised to find that he'd meant it. As insane as it seemed, he meant it. Kaz left her side to kneel by the bath, turning the handles until he found the right temperature. The warm water felt heavenly even on just his hands, thawing his frozen fingers. He pulled away from it, turning back to the girl. "Take your time, okay? I'll go get you some clothes."

Alice wanted to laugh too but with her shivering state she could not pull any strength to do so. If he did have clothes for her they would obviously not be able to fit him. He was too tall, and Alice was too petite. She moved a wet strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear as he guided her to the bathroom. She couldn't help but think of how weird this was for her. Alice had just finished escaping a guard after he caught her during an assassination attempt and she stumbled upon one of the princes. Even though he knows what he has done, he does not turn her in. Alice knew if she was anybody but herself, she would turn a murderer in without a doubt. Alice stayed standing as he tested the water. They had baths and such in the barracks where they kept different ranks, but they were usually cold except for the winter months. It saved hem money even though they had plenty of it. Although it was a bit weird for her to be in a stranger's bathroom to take a bath, Alice had to at least know his name. And vice versa. "Before I get into a stranger's bath, would you mind telling me your name?"
