They are selfish and cruel. Dogs are supposed to be fun, happy pets who love you, and want to do nothing but please you and be by your side. Not my little guy. He's grumpy and standoffish, and all he does is sleep and growl. To be honest, he's changed my opinion of dogs, and it's sad really. I think their cute, but having him always makes me think that that's how their personalities are typically, even though I know they are not really. He's the only dog I've ever owned, although we did have a pitbull puppy at one point, but she was too much to handle, considering that she dragged me down the street after a squirrel, tried to eat our cats, and various other problems, although they weren't behavior-involved. I've met plenty of other dogs, and they are all super friendly and sweet. And I just wish that mine was like that. And I mean, I don't blame him for that. I blame some of the previous people who owned him, abused him, blinded him in his right eye, and messed the poor guy up badly. HE SAW HIS OWNER GET SHOT AND KILLED BY HER HUSBAND. If I were him, I think I'd be pretty messed up to.
Anyways, end of rant. I'm heading to bed, but I needed to post this.

Animal abusers are sick as cruel...it's like damaging a human being. I don't understand how people even can live with these descions. But I hope your dog eventually can trust you and others and have a happy rest of his life.

My whole family has some sort of vow to dislike pitbulls. They say that they hurt their owners and kill babies. But it's never their fault that they do that! It's their owners who trained them to do that! Or owners who don't care to train them and punish them for noddy behavior. That's why when I get my own house one day I will get a "monster" dog like a pitbulls and show everyone how sweet they can really be.

That's terrible Just show your dog love, and he'll slowly come to respond to that new loving environment in a positive way. Poor doggo

Some dogs just honestly don't like being cuddled and held depending on the breed and personality. I have a lab/Shar pei mix and while she's friendly and very nice she doesn't really like being held/pet/cuddled. Neither does her dad who is a lab. He just groans whenever you give him a hug. We've had her since she was a puppy and this is just who she is. Her father was dumped and we adopted him. He's a super sweet and loyal dog he just really doesn't like being cuddled and would rather sit on his own seat on the couch. I also have a smaller dog that loves to sit with you on the couch and loves to be pet and loves the family.
So honestly there are just dogs who don't love being pet and cuddled. My dogs that don't like it tolerate it but I try not to force them to cuddle with me because I know they just don't want to. And I don't mind that.
I'm not saying abuse doesn't have something to do with it and that coukd be all of it seeing what your described. but it might also be your dog's personality.
