[ this was based on a prompt we did at a writing camp we went to where the prompt was a picture of a guy on a terrace and it was supposed to focus on setting so yeah I found it recently and wanted to share it because I liked it ^.^ ]
The air was brisk; a gentle wind eased it towards me as I took in a refreshing breath. This felt like the first breath I had taken all week, and while the coolness calmed my mind, it did nothing to stop my heart from racing wildly.
The next step I took was the hardest.
I was immediately greeted by rolling hills that were a gentle blue, pairing nicely with the cotton clouds that stretched across the sky
My hands rested on the concrete railing that was peppered with dirt, not unlike the red clay smudges that covered the bottom of my beige pants.
With only a small turn I was able to see him; his tall figure seemed oddly in place in front of the evergreen trees that poked up above the rail, few any taller than him. Stone covered the outside of the railing, and the slight curve of the terrace accentuated them.
He seemed at peace, his gray eyes lacking the storm of thoughts that often occupied them. His long coat stayed stationary by his side, the wind had no effect on it as the thick fabric kept it anchored by him. For a moment he was more of a ghost than a man, he didn’t seem to even notice me.
I took a step toward him, and something silver glittered brightly from his hand. His watch had caught the light of the sun, but all I could imagine was two silver bracelets connected by a single chain that would weight him down forever.
Slowly I took a step towards him and a wave of acceptance washed over me and my heart stilled for once. I stopped by his side as I had a thousand times before.
“You killed her, didn’t you?”
