I've been thinking about trying out the vegetarian life style but I have some questions:
How would you go about this on a budget? What kind of foods do you eat for protein? What is your favorite vegetarian or vegan food/dish? And if you have anymore insight please share c:

Being vegetarian saves me a lot of money I get protein from cauliflower and other vegetables as well a protein bars and tofu. Its also important to get iron which you can get from dried fruits I love orange tofu, fake chicken nuggets, and a bowl of peppers, rice, and cheese

Don't vegetarians eat animal products like eggs and dairy whereas vegans don't?

Because when I tried becoming a vegan it was much more expensive because of the fact that I was eating something totally different then the rest of my family.

Vegan is where you don't milk, eggs, honey etc yes
And yea,it saves me money cause I'm not spending an extra on meat, and there are a lot of chips that aren't vegetarian too. When I became vegetarian I also became a lot healthier person which means I cut out a lot of bad foods that just wasted my money
But even then, I find that being vegetarian is cheaper, it's different per person I suppose though. Since even with meat eaters no one is spending the same amount, and it also depends on location and etc

!!!!!! i've been a vegetarian for over a year it's a+
1. One of the biggest keys I think is buying in bulk. Bulk beans, rice, and wheat berries (or barley/farro/etc) are great bases for a lot of delicious not-boring meals. (Especially ones you can make in bulk and store for later meals like wheat salad or stir fry)
2. Good, inexpensive, and healthy protein options are whole grains, eggs, beans, and tofu. Especially garbanzo beans (chickpeas). Learning to cook good-tasting tofu can sometimes take practice {not for me bc i'm perf but it sometimes does}. You can marinade it like you would marinade meat too
3. If you can, shop from Asian and Hispanic markets. They are usually half (or less) the price of your average grocery store and have tons of delicious spices, sauces, and veggies.
4. Eat seasonal produce as much as you can. This is where people feel like vegetarian/vegan diets get expensive, but they don’t have to be. Avoid getting spring/summer fruits in the dead of winter, and stick with dark leafy greens, winter gourds/squashes, and tomatoes while it’s still cold.
5. When you do shop at a regular grocery store, always buy the store brand over the name brand. There’s usually no difference and it’ll save you so much. Also, if you have one, Aldi’s is a magical wonderful grocery store full of cheap produce/other necessities {!!!!!! for real}
Try and make sure any pastas you buy are whole grain, as they have a good deal of your daily protein needs. You can make smoothies too, using either peanut butter or protein powder to give it an extra kick. If you like bananas, there’s not much better than a peanut butter banana smoothie with some chocolate syrup/hot chocolate packs in it (: It’s healthy and tastes like dessert. Regular nuts have good protein in them too but can get pretty expensive, so I just keep peanut butter around {and literally eat it off a spoon when i don't have energy to make stuff} Nutritional yeast is also pretty fantastic, I hear. A little goes a long way and it’s packed with protein, iron, and other nutrients. Tastes cheesy, supposedly, but I've never had it so ??
my favorite recipes are ???? idk tbh. all of them lmao. I love making tofu chicken nuggets, even though it's messy and time consuming. I also absolutely adore vegan chicken noodle soup. Spaghetti is always wonderful, and cheese quesadillas. Pizza. TACOS I love, I use cooked mushrooms {cooked in oil and seasonings} in place of meat.
so yeah, if you ever have questions I Am Here !!

I've been vegetarian for 9 years now, so if you have any questions, I'm available most of the day. Sorry I'm just a bit tired right now that's why I'm not writing as much as PatienceTheVirtue.

Oh right. I am. But, I can't really answer most of the questions since I've been vegan my whole life and so I haven't really thought about any of this stuff. Like, what I eat for protein. I don't eat anything specifically for protein. I just eat the same stuff I've always eaten. d:

I logged on and saw that more people had actually posted, nice, this is all very helpful. @embersanja ;; those are good tips thank you! Fortunately for me my family already has a lot of bulk grains and beans so I'm set for the most part, sadly in my area there isn't a lot of options shopping wise as everything is large chain stores. And my mom generally gets whole grain pasta. DUDE SMOOTHIES, YES Ƈσяαℓ Mєямαι∂ ღ ; okay thank you! I'll probably have more questions later when I'm not half asleep so thanks. Reverend 3 kits ; most helpful thou art cx but like what do you eat?
