but just because ONE person got attacked by a dog, doesn't mean that they should be banned. No I totally getcha, but again sometimes emotions blur logic. By all means I'm not agreeing with them but they're obviously hurting and still haven't recovered from the attack in a way. Both sides of the argument are hurting in their own way... and I just think it's good to consider that. i know i just get so irritated when people think that pit bulls are horrible animals.....

I was bit by a dog and it wasn't a pit bull.
Put bulls are loyal dogs that get a bad rep from the media. Pit Bulls are known to have aggression if they are bred poorly and/or have been raised poorly. Just like any other breed of dog.
Look at the Viktory dogs from the Michael Vick case. These were dog fighting dogs and they were rehabilitated into loving family pets. Some even became therapy dogs and helped people and you want to ban them and kill them?
That's ludicrous. I'm ashamed of that place.

oh my god noooooo i ove pitbulls, i know a few super nice ones, absolutely no mean pitbulls personally. the problem is they have the physical capabilities to be very dangerous and are very loyal to their owners so like, bad owner, bad dog, which you seem to already know. I mean theres some pretty rude chihuahuas and poodles but they don't have the physical capabilities to go and attack someone. its like banning people that are black belkts in karate because someone who was great at karate killed someone. its so stupid, agh.

yeah but
1. pitbulls are more aggressive on average
2. pitbulls do more damage when biting then most other dogs
and I really don't like Dobermans either
The reason Pits are more aggressive on average is because of the sheer number of them. The real issue is backyard breeders that pump out puppies and don't perform home checks before selling them.

The issue is we get reports about pit bull attacks so much more than about any others.
It's like people that are terrified of getting on a plane because it could crash yet they get into cars and drive around fine all the time.
We dont get many reports about fatal car crashes. But when we get reports about plane crashes, they stick with us for a lot longer. Yet they happen so much less often.

Jas - Exactly this. Recently here in the Uk there was a fatal dog attack the dog killed a small boy and it was of course everywhere, all over the media. The one thing it didn't have in common with other reports was the breed. Not once was the breed mentioned in the article and it turned out that the dog in question was a labrador. A few years ago a pit bull bit a woman who had been abusing it and all the papers were reporting was that it was a savage dog and that the breed needed banning. Its disgusting how the media twist stories to fuel their agendas. I never take any stories I read at face value.

i'm really mad. like pits aren't the most aggressive dog out there. why not ban more aggressive breeds too? why only pits? also it makes me rlly sad because my pup at home (i'm away at college) is a pit mix and he's a rescue. he's such a good dog. and it makes me sad that there are a bunch of potentially good and loving dogs that won't get good and loving homes because they're pits or pit mixes

Good. I never liked Pitbulls in the first place. There is a reason they're banned. They were bred for aggressiveness. I don't want to be around that. I've already had the side of my mouth and cheek ripped out by a damn dog. Not looking for it to possibly happen again in the future. are you are you kidding me? they were not bred for aggressiveness. They were bred for loyalty. ANY dog can be aggressive. In fact, pit bulls have better temperaments than golden retrievers and cocker spaniels. i mean according to you my dog should be euthanized ??? really I can't believe this Banning and euthanizing are two very different things. Sorry I actually have a different opinion than you, but I got my face ripped off by one. I don't care who or what they act like I am N O T getting near one of those animals again. You guys can do what you want but I will not have any part in this.

I understand your reasoning for not wanting to be near dogs, but that doesn't mean they should be banned and killed.

They're *animals.* Sure, they're domesticated, but they're still animals. They generally don't go off and attack someone without reason. Most attacks are provoked in some fashion. And it's the dog that gets blamed, not the owner who's *responsible* for it nor the person that potentially provoked the attack. Dogs *will* be dogs. If you can't properly ensure the safety of yourself, others, *and* your dog, then you shouldnt own one. The dog is just being a dang dog.

They plan to put your dog to sleep if you don't follow the rules. I can't exactly remember what they are, but I did hear that you have to muzzle the dog (so you can't play fetch), keep it on a leash and I think you must get it microchipped no questions asked. I think if you don't get it microchipped they put your dog to sleep if it's been found out.
It's sickening how they're forced to have a muzzle. That's just going to make the dog miserable. What about dogs like German Shepherds? My grandma had one and she was extremely loyal to me and her, however she gave her several chances and had to put her to sleep after biting her other dog.
At least my grandma gave her dog chances and we still love her to this day even though she's gone. Other dogs can be aggressive too. It's not just Pitbulls.

Even in the dog park the poor thing must be muzzled. It's gross.

They aren't sent out of state or given to a rescue. They put down innocent dogs who have done nothing are put down in shelters simply because of their breed not for anything they have done. I get you don't like pit bulls but as someone whose been around plenty of them and has seen them play with small children that's an awful thing to see happen. Loving pets getting put down just because their a pitbull. Any dog has the potential to be aggressive. Not just pit bulls
