So they just banned Pitbulls in Montreal. What do you think about this?
While I'll admit I am a bit uncomfortable of these dogs myself, I wouldn't take them away from their families and put them to sleep because of their breed. They're only "deadly" and "aggressive" because their owners raised them that way. It's not the dog's fault. Why should dogs be punished for something that their owner caused themselves? It is quite a shame. I am ashamed at what humanity has become.
I get it, a woman has been brutally murdered by a dog. but that doesn't mean all Pitbulls will be like that. Just by looking at some videos Pitbulls are actually very happy and loving toward their families. Separating these dogs from their families will only make them aggressive because you are separating them from the ones they love.

Pitbulls actually scored really high on the ATTS tests. Higher than the Akita, Dalmations, Brittany Spanels, Dashuad, Australian shepherds Pitbulls and all dogs can be aggressive, but they can be really fricking sweet

That seems really.. mm.. Mountain lions have killed a lot of people but they didn't 'ban' them from the state. Not to mention lots of zoo animals have killed people and a lot of those animals don't even get put down. This is really messed up considering this forces families to move??

They're gonna euthanize all pit bulls (including mixes) that are in shelters or are strays. obviously its awful, not to mention that all families with pit bulls need to pay a $150 fee to register their dogs, have them microchipped, fully vaccinated, fixed, and they can't go outside without a muzzle and a 4 ft leash. and if the families don't do all of this, they will have their dogs seized and then killed. Clearly this is a terrible idea and screw the people that voted for this.

ugh that's really terrible. i think the problem is that once pitbulls and Staffies and all bullbreeds do attack, they don't let go. they go into lockjaw, whereas you can get a Dalmatian or a husky to stop, but you can't with a pitbull. but it's still horrible. pitbulls are my favourite breed of dog and i hate the bad reputation they always get. there are loads of lovely pitbulls out there that wouldnt hurt a fly, it's evil and cruel how they are putting them all down. this happens in the uk, too. if the dog is even a quarter of pitbull or something it is put down. and i recently heard that a rescue or something put down a dog that came in because it LOOKED like a pitbull?? like, please at least do a DNA test?? ive met a dog that looked exactly like a pitbull but it happened to be a staffy x american bulldog.

I agree. I think it's a terrible law. These dogs shouldn't have to suffer because some pet owners make poor choices.

Why would anyone agree to vote for this? My cousins have a pitbull mix and he's the sweetest thing. The most violent thing he's done is sleep on my leg.

its like banning cars because one person got hit. it's NOT the pitbull's or the car's fault. it's the one behind the wheel, the one who trained/drove it to behave in that manner. this law just goes to show how idiotic humanity is these days.

Those poor pit bulls. While I admit that personally, I don't love pit bulls (I don't hate them, but I don't love them) it's till horrible that innocent dogs are getting murdered because of one stupid person and one accident.

I understand why, and I do think people need to realise just how aggressive/dangerous pitbulls CAN be, but I don't agree with completely banning either.

1. pitbulls are more aggressive on average
2. pitbulls do more damage when biting then most other dogs
and I really don't like Dobermans either

Good. I never liked Pitbulls in the first place. There is a reason they're banned. They were bred for aggressiveness. I don't want to be around that. I've already had the side of my mouth and cheek ripped out by a damn dog. Not looking for it to possibly happen again in the future.

Hopefully this will be appealed. Honestly it's so dumb how humanity loves to ban things because of one incident. Blame the owner, never the dog.

I'm not Canadian, so any Canadians are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm not mistaken the entire district of Ontario has banned Pitbulls already, and Vancouver once banned them some years ago but it was repealed. But despite that most Canadian cities(or at least big cities) have several tight restrictions on Pitbulls already, much more than the US at least. So this definitely isn't the first ban/restriction in Canada... and it shouldn't really come as a shock.
Not to mention that the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and other major countries also have pretty strict "aggressive dog breed" laws. Despite the increasing tension and restrictions rising up in the US... the US is Pitbull heaven compared to other places outside the country.
Of course I'm not saying I agree nor disagree with what happened, but I'm just pointing out that this isn't some revolutionary event. Most people don't know that if they go on vacation outside the US with their Pitbull... it'd be pretty hard to get anywhere except maybe Latin America.

One thing I find kind of odd is that the legislation classes Staffordshire bull terriers as pitbulls. There's legislation against pitbulls here in the UK, but they class staffies as being a separate breed...

They were bred for loyalty. ANY dog can be aggressive. In fact, pit bulls have better temperaments than golden retrievers and cocker spaniels. i mean according to you my dog should be euthanized ??? really I can't believe this

I've never been attacked by a dog, let alone nearly get my face ripped off by one, but if I did, I think I'd be pretty shaken up. Logic aside, you might wanna reread the post you just responded to and see it more as an emotional post. That way you can relax a bit and continue on your day. Some wounds take time to heal.

By all means I'm not agreeing with them but they're obviously hurting and still haven't recovered from the attack in a way. Both sides of the argument are hurting in their own way... and I just think it's good to consider that.
