I am currently learning how to speak Japanese, but of course I run into the problem that literally no one else I am in contact with speaks any measure of it, so practicing past the preset questions and examples on the site I'm using is, well, pretty much impossible. Which is unfortunate, because having dynamic practice is important when learning a language. There is a chat on the site that I use, but it a) isn't usually in Japanese and goes too quickly for me to be able to decipher what is in Japanese in time (I'm not at all fluent yet).
In any case, I thought it might be fun to make a little sort of "club" on here for anyone who speaks Japanese, is learning it, or is interested in learning it. The idea is just to hang out and chat or possibly do small little roleplays while speaking as much Japanese as we can for practice.
I would just like to note, this is not a page for people who just want to talk about anime in English. This is people who actually want to learn to speak the Japanese language. If you're not going to put any effort into learning it, this isn't the thread for you. Another thing I would like to say is to make absolutely sure you follow all the forum rules; I specifically looked to see if there was a rule against foreign languages, and they said there's not as long as it doesn't become a problem. So don't make it a problem. There shouldn't be one, since it pretty much boils down to keep things appropriate and polite, but I'm putting this warning here anyways.
In the posts below, I'll have some reserved posts for things like possibly some reference links, maybe a (very) basic Japanese dictionary, and a list of hiragana characters in case you want to post some words in hiragana and don't feel like chasing down the characters. Stuff like that; we'll see as we go.
So, with all that said: はじめまして

Idk, like I can mostly read hiragana (very slowly) and I get the basics though it takes me a minute to read it or translate into it. I would say my understanding of vocabulary and grammar is probably greater than my knowledge of Spanish after taking 2 years of it in high school, but I didn't learn jack squat in Spanish 2 so idk how apt a comparison that is. Plus, I haven't been learning consistently long enough for the translation to be automatic; I can understand it, but I have to manually translate most of the time.

If you want to practice conversations, I'll PM you or we can start a thread. I'll probably use kanji as well though, so if you don't know a word, let me know and I'll give you the reading/meaning. No romaji!

Hahahaha I don't know any kanji yet but sure, we can give it a try. I'll note that even as much as I do know, my conversation skills are probably on par with like, a Japanese 3 year old, so don't expect a riveting conversation lol.

I was talking to someone in Japanese and I said "Understanding you is difficult." I then decided to talk to a boy I have a crush on who's Japanese and I said "hello". Still kicking myself. Don't feel bad.

Alright lol. If you don't mind me asking, how fluent are you? Not fluent enough to be called fluent. In all honesty, I'm probably lower-intermediate by now??? Not sure though.

lol to be entirely honest I'm not really sure how to reply to that correctly so I'm just winging it here
ぼくは いい です。げんき です か?
tbh I have no idea if that's a correct usage of いい but it was the most hopeful word I could find in my limited vocabulary lol

ぼくは いい です。げんき です か?
tbh I have no idea if that's a correct usage of いい but it was the most hopeful word I could find in my limited vocabulary lol It's correct! (You meant "good", right?) あぁ、そうですか?いいよ。私(わたし)は元気(げんき)です。 (If you haven't already, you should check out imiwa. It's a dictionary app that I know is for iOS but not sure about Android? It's insanely useful, and can give you a start with kanji.)

(Alas I don't have any kind of mobile device capable of using apps. The only internet-capable device I have is this laptop lol. But thanks; I'll keep it in mind in case I do ever get a smart phone.)
いい です。 なにいろが すき です か?
(sorry if the question isn't clear, my options are limited and I've had very little practice actually assembling sentences. Feel free to correct me or ask for clarification. I'm gonna stop apologizing every post now because I feel as though it's understood at this point that I only have a partial idea of what I'm doing lol)
