(I don't feel like making this all fancy right now, but I may improve its aesthetic later if this roleplay survives very long)
This story begins as all others do.
Once many moons ago, there was a cat. He had grown up with a large family surrounding him- his parents and their littermates and his, and his littermates' kits. But over time, all left or died or were taken from him by some other means, and finally he was alone.
The cat wandered far away from where he was born, looking for a replacement for what he had lost, but other cats were hostile or preferred to live alone. Still, on his travels her heard many stories, and the ones that stayed with him were those about an ancient group of cats who had lived together, fighting and hunting together as though they were kin, even though they did not all share blood. A Clan.
Slowly a plan formed in his mind, and the cat spend the rest of his moons gathering all the information and followers that he could. They traveled, rebuilding the warrior code and training themselves in the ways of the Clans, until they found the perfect territory: open, rolling meadows framed by deep and shady forests. They settled here, and called themselves MeadowClan in the honor of the perfect home which they had found. And there they flourished for many, many generations.
Eventually, as all good things do, this came to an end. Twolegs- which the cats had never before seen on their territory- came from far away with their shining monsters, tearing and churning the ground, cutting trees and building nests and covering their beautiful meadows with hard gray thunderpaths. The destruction lasted several seasons before it was complete, and in the place of the Clan's territory was a twolegplace. The members of the Clan had been killed or scattered, but slowly over the next moons, the survivors found their way to the only green place left within the twolegplace, besides the gardens around the nests. In this wide stretch of grove and meadow that the kittypets called a "park," the Clan cats met beneath the shade of neatly-trimmed trees and grimly agreed that what once had been was no more. But that did not mean they would give up; their spirit was not broken, and the time of their Clan had not yet ended. And so they decided to make their camp in a secluded part of the park where twolegs rarely tread, and the dark alleys and cold thunderpaths would be their new home. They would be at constant odds with dogs and twolegs and monsters and other cats, but they would survive. They were AlleyClan.
Several generations have lived and died here, and the Clan has adapted well to life in the twolegplace. Still, the world is harsh and unforgiving, and there is no room for weakness. We are not wicked, but at times we can be cold, for there is no room to give and we must take what is ours by tooth and claw if necessary. Many cats are not strong enough to survive. Are you?
To summarize and further expand on the introduction, this is a Clan who has made their home on the streets of a twolegplace. The center of their territory is in a park, but the park is unfortunately not large enough to support the Clan, and so they must venture out into the rest of the twolegplace to survive, which of course carries a lot of dangers. Even living within the park isn't always safe, as there are always a lot of twolegs, often with dogs.
This Clan is rather harsh, though hardly to a BloodClan level. Still, they are taught not to be remorseful about killing to keep what's theirs, and hurting others is simply a by-product of surviving. Even within the Clan, cats must compete for everything they have, and there is no room for cats who can't carry their weight. There is no tolerance for disobedience of authority, or of division in the Clan. Cats are frequently exiled when they prove they cannot benefit the Clan as a whole, forced to become rogues or kittypets. The Clan is extremely selective in what cats are allowed to take authority, and even which cats are allowed to have kits. Only the strongest, most suited cats for survival here are given quarter. It's harsh and cruel, but it has kept the Clan alive this long.
This is a claim-a-cat roleplay, which means you'll have to choose a pre-made character if you want an actual Clan cat. However, OC kittypets and rogues are not only allowed, but encouraged. This is as much as twolegplace roleplay as a Clan roleplay, and the interaction of the Clan with non-Clan cats is part of what will make this rp interesting and unique. Rarely, a non-Clan cat might have the chance to join AlleyClan by proving themselves, but for the most part, non-Clan cats will stay non-Clan cats.
ROLEPLAY RULES
- Be polite to others outside of character.
- No godmodding, power-playing, spotlighting, making mary-sues, etc.
- Keep your characters realistic, both in behavior and in appearance. They obviously don't have to be 100% realistic, but keep it believable.
- Don't cause needless drama for the sake of causing drama. Essentially, if it doesn't contribute to a plot or any character development, it's probably needless.
- You must prove that you are literate and reasonably active before you may claim a high-ranking position (leader, deputy, med.cat, med.cat apprentice). Basically, you just have to claim a different character and rp for a little while.
- Please conform to the personality traits of the claimed characters as much as you can. Since it's only two vague traits, that should be pretty easy.
THE WARRIOR CODE
- A warrior must be willing to give his or her life for the Clan if necessary.
- The good of the Clan comes before the good of the individual.
- The word of the Clan leader or of StarClan is law.
- A kit is never to be neglected, regardless of origin.
- Kits, queens, and elders are to be cared for before warriors and apprentices.
- Never kill a member of AlleyClan.
- Do not kill if you can avoid it.
- Prey is scarce and killed only to be eaten. Never hunt purely for sport.
TERRITORY
The Clan's territory is mostly twolegplace, though a significant portion of it is the park that makes up the center. The park is a long rectangle, with a copse of trees with walking trails on one end and an open field with a pond at the other. There is a large drain at one end of the pond, just above the water level, so that the water can drain if it storms and starts to flood. In this tunnel is where the Clan makes its camp. There aren't a lot of particular landmarks in the streets; some twoleg nests, some dumpsters, and other distinguishing marks help the cats find their way. The few landmarks there ARE within Clan territory are the abandoned nest and the metaltree. The abandoned nest is a broken and empty twoleg nest a decent distance from the park. Its generally a good place to find prey like mice or rats and sometimes pigeons, but rogues often move in as well and can be difficult to evict. The metaltree is a large metal tower in an empty field (a phone tower). It's not good for much, but sometimes birds nest in the tree where cats can reach the nest or hunt them when they land, and there are sometimes mice hiding in the grass.
Outside of the Clan's territory, there are some other landmarks that are known to rogues. The main two are the dump and the stoneyard. The dump is a place where all the twolegs' trash goes in a massive pile. It's surrounded by a broad tract of open field and trees as well, just enough to have some real forest prey. In the dump itself, rats, vultures, and other scavengers are common. Many cats come here searching for food or a place to stay, but it is extremely dangerous for a cat who can't defend themselves. The stoneyard is another open area of land. It's mostly grassy, with a few trees, and strange stones jut up from the ground, placed there by twolegs (it's a graveyard). The area isn't very big, and is too open for there to be much prey, but songbirds and squirrels are common, along with some mice.
There are also a lot of twoleg nests with nice gardens around. Many of them have kittypets, and there's an understood law in these parts that a kittypet is safe as long as they stay in their own garden; should they venture outside it, though, there is a decent chance of getting hurt. Rogues will usually not trespass on a marked garden, though any that isn't marked as a kittypet's is fair game to sleep or hunt in, though they may have to fight with other rogues over it. Still, these "rules" are not abided by all cats, and some rogues may very well chase a kittypet back into their nest over their garden.
CAMP
As mentioned before, the camp is in a large stone tunnel just above the pond's water level. The tunnel is plenty large enough for cats, but fortunately too small for twoelgs. It runs beneath many of the streets, but unfortunately there are few other ways out; in most places water comes into the tunnel through grates in the road. Therefore, cats rarely venture deeper into the tunnel.
Because of the lack of space, the camp is not divided into different dens. The camp is actually set quite a ways back into the tunnel, where it intersects with another tunnel to form four branches, including the one leading to the pond. Each of the three branches besides the entrance serves as a "den."
The one directly across from the entrance- the largest, serves as a den for the warriors, apprentices, and leader. The one to the left serves as the medicine den, as there are a few cracks in the stone that can be used to store the few herbs the Clan manages to scrounge up. The one to the right of the entrance serves as the nursery, as it is a dead end and therefore the safest. The very back of it also houses the elders, if there happen to be any (though most cats don't live long enough to retire).
PLOTS
Major Plots:
The Clan has been hearing rumors of rogues being trapped by twolegs, going missing for a few days, and returning.... different. Thus far, no Clan cat has been trapped, but some feel as though it's only a matter of time.
[OOC explanation: essentially, stray cats are getting captured, fixed, and released. Eventually, some of the Clan cats will have it happen, and while they'll mostly be fine afterwords, they'll eventually figure out that they can no longer have kits. The intention is for this to happen to at least half of the cats over the course of a couple moons, which of course puts them in a tight spot regarding how the Clan will get enough kits to survive.]
