Just a theory, but I think that Whorlpaw may very well be a marbled/classic tabby.
Why?
Well, for those who don't know, the definition of "whorl" is the following: "a pattern of swirls or concentric circles." Marbled tabbies have a swirled pattern on their pelt, with the swirl being darker like a mackerel tabby. I've included a picture below of a beautiful marbled tabby (linked to the original page).
The wiki describes Whorlpaw as a "grey and white tom". If he is, indeed, a marbled tabby, then the markings would be on the grey parts of his fur.
Anyone else agree? Do you think that Whorlpaw could be a marbled tabby? Let me know.

It's possible. I think he may have an area of fur where his fur is actually whorled- growing in a spiral rather than like normal
