Just block them, don't reply, and report them so Facebook can handle it from there.
(Or the social media involved.)
It's happened a few times in the past; especially once with my mom and she called me in the middle of class to tell me. So I walked out of class, logged onto her account and reported it for her. Within the hour, I got a reply thanking me for catching that.
They also traced back that individual to scamming other users before and no one reporting them for reasons of the post seeming legit.

there was this time at my school where this guy on Instagram was trying to meet people from our year & collect details from them
just block him & warn people about it
