one of them is that my brain tells me to pronounce Arkansas (pronounced are-can-saw) as "R"-"Kansas", as in the 18th letter of the alphabet then a completely different state. i've been this way for years.

i used to call it the same way you want to when i was younger given, i am canadian so id never heard anyone actually say it before and it just seems more logical

You foreigners (by which I mean people not from the Pacific Northwest) can't talk i knew this and i'm from ny only cause a friend of mine from Oregon told me a lot of people use fake "Oregan" IDs and cashiers will test people by asking them where they're from, and if they're really from Oregon they'll pronounce it correctly. i have no idea if that's a real thing tho

Seems like I would've heard of that. Although it wouldn't be completely accurate. Since a lot of people from Washington, Idaho. Northern California, and Nevada know how to say it right. And some people from other regions know from friends and such.
