So I'm 18 and I have some non-visible handicaps which have given me a permanent (which actually means 5 years, which is weird) handicap placard. I've received dirty looks often when I use a handicapped spot because I'm a young and healthy looking young lady, which I can deal with on occasion. I've even heard people insult me "Under their breath", which I can totally hear by the way, with things such as "Kids these days should have more respect for people who need those spots." or even people debating calling the police. I can deal with that (be really PO'ed though), I have a card proving it's mine.
But today I just want to scream. It was raining a bit and I had used my handicap placard and gone into the library for a while. When I came out I found all this trash and even dirty tissues dumped all over the hood of my car. I had to get paper towels and clean it up IN THE RAIN. There were many people watching but no one offered to help and I'm positive it's because people saw me use the placard and decided to "take the law into their own hands". Seriously? I'm at a library, it's raining and I decided to use my placard since no other spots close the the entrance (which I use sometimes to avoid this sort of thing) and this happens.
I have a heart condition called POTS which can sometimes cause dizziness and fainting on occasion. I also have something in my legs (Which is not yet identified) that has caused them to weaken over time where even walking 100 or so feet causes extreme pain, even though I was very active as a kid. I have that pass for a reason and its this sort of BS that makes me want to not use it.

yikes i'm sorry. a friend of mine is in the same position actually also w POTS. when she and i went out this summer she'd use her placard bc it was like 100+ degrees F and like dude that's not good even walking a short distance in that could potentially be killer on her heart. and ppl were really awful to her and like ??? just bc she's 18 and appears healthy doesn't mean she's not handicapped
