Prologue
Cats gathered at a pool, their huddled shapes shaking with fear. A gray tabby she-cat raised her head. "The time for what we have feared has come..." she sighed."It can't be!" A ginger tabby she-cat wailed. "Not my clan!"
"Gingerstar... it's too late." Another ginger tabby she-cat spat back, lashing her tail. "We saw the fire. It has begun, and look how bad your clan is doing."
Gingerstar looked down, shifting her paws. Sobbing, she shifted her gaze to the rest of the crowd. A blue-gray tomcat padded forward, and dipped his paw into the pool, causing it to ripple. Five cats appeared in the pool. Five clans, five cats, five leaders. The first cat was a ginger tabby she-cat, and her fur was rippling and fading in and out, as if she was struggling to stay in the pool. The tomcat touched her, and she disappeared.
"What?" Gingerstar cried. "What did you do?"
"You wouldn't understand." The tomcat said. "It's too late for your clan. We can't save you."
"A darkened spirit and a fiery evil... destruction and death... now is a time that will bring upon the clans a sunset of which they will never see the next dawn."

Chapter 1
A tortoiseshell she-cat growled at a fiery-colored tabby tom. The tom's ominous green eyes flashed with amusement. "Get off our territory!" The tortoiseshell growled. "Kittypet!"
"I'm a Thunderclan warrior, you Shadowclan mousebrain!" The tom spat back in reply.
"My name is Nightshade, why don't you use it?" The tortoiseshell hissed. "Or is your ex-kittypet brain too stupid to remember any name but your own, Flameclaw?"
A scrawny Thunderclan warrior emerged from behind a bush nearby. The warrior blinked his rheumy eyes and rasped: "Flameclaw! Get back--" The tom stopped to cough. "Get back on the other side of the border! We don't need a fight right now, on top of... our... situation."
Flameclaw unsheathed his claws, but quickly pulled them back in and turned back, his tail lashing. Flameclaw appeared to be well fed and healthy, but the other warrior appeared to be very ill. Does Thunderclan really send out sick warriors on patrol? They'll never get better that way!

Flameclaw's green eyes glinted in the sunlight, his fur bristling. "We are weak." He hissed to a ginger tabby she-cat, whose intense amber gaze was set on his. Both cats' eyes were full of rage, but only one of them was skinny and shaking. Flameclaw flexed his muscular shoulders, as if he was threatening to fight the sickly cat.
"F... Flame... Flameclaw..." The shaking ginger cat said. "Please. We're doing all we... we can."
"And what is that?" Flameclaw spat. "Nothing! We are still weak. Let me help you. That's what I joined the clan for."

Chapter 3
"Is there any way we can save them?"
"It's useless!"
"We have to help them somehow!"
The voices echoed back and forth in Dawn's head. She growled. I don't understand!
"The lake cats..." One voice whispered.
Dawn closed her eyes as the voices continued, becoming more and more confusing and cryptic. Her gray fur bristled and she covered her ears. A paw tapped her on the head, and she looked up to see three sparkling cats. "Who are you?" she asked fearfully.
"I am Tail." The tom on the other side of Nettle grunted. He looked to the silver tabby she-cat on the opposite side of Nettle. The she-cat wasn't starry like the other two, and hesitated before speaking. "I am Featherst--"
"Feather." Nettle cut her off.
"We've come to give you an invitation." Tail sighed.

Chapter 4
The first cat lowered her paw. "I am... Nettle." The she-cat said. The silver tabby she-cat next to Nettle shot her a strange glance, but she ignored it. Nettle's pelt was starry, unlike any other cats' she had seen before. Dawn relaxed slightly at the familiar, rogue-like name. They're just rogues, I hope..."I am Tail." The tom on the other side of Nettle grunted. He looked to the silver tabby she-cat on the opposite side of Nettle. The she-cat wasn't starry like the other two, and hesitated before speaking. "We've come to give you an invitation." Tail sighed.

Chapter 5
"Invitation?" Dawn questioned, confused.
"To meet your kin." Tail replied calmly.
"I have kin?"
"Many kin. And they need your help, before they too go under."
"I'll go."
"Can you swim?"
Dawn stopped to consider the question. "I guess..."
"Good." Tail mewed, "Let's go."
To where, and who are they?
