Long ago, when Animal Jam was in its very beginning beta testing period, the game was different. The animals were much more realistic; not in animation, but in behavior. They were able to move on their own, and think for themselves. They didn’t need the help of a mouse, and they could gladly talk to each other whenever they wanted. The staff of AJ thought this was amazing, so they began testing. When it first started, though, the players complained. Their animals would have fun with them for a while and let the player control and dress them, but then would get bored, change their outfit, and run off. They would also often rearrange dens to their liking. This was considered a nuisance, so the staff of AJ tried to talk to the animals and convince them to let the players control them for longer, because it made them happier. The animals reluctantly agreed, but soon they became bored and frustrated, because the players would want to do one thing while the animal wanted to do something else. To get their way, the animals would go to extremes to get the player off the game, such as stopping chat messages from sending through, hiding, and even crashing the game.
AJHQ was worried, because if the animals wouldn’t listen, they wouldn’t be able to release the game to all people. Thus, a solution was made: a virus was entered into the code, simply known as “PUPPETS”, that would allow the animals to still have that same beautiful reality to them, only it would lock them in place. No longer would they be allowed to move freely on their own. Now, they were trapped, and only moved on command when the player clicked the mouse to move them. They were forced to leave those strange speech bubbles above their heads and to wear whatever accessories the player put on them. They couldn’t make the den the way they liked it, and they had to live with colors that they hated. As the beta testing wore on, the animals suffered. AJHQ took pity on them, and made a pact: they were still going to be controlled by players whenever the player was online, but when they logged off, the animal would be freed, placed in a hidden server known as “No Strings Attached”, and be allowed to roam free until the player returned, which would revert them back into their original forms. The animals would also be released forever if the player’s account was banned or deleted. The animals agreed to this, desperate for freedom, and relished the time that the account holder logged off so they could taste freedom.
Soon, the beta testing ended, and the site was opened to all. New players began pouring in, and animals soon began appearing all over Jamaa. These creatures knew nothing of the time of freedom when animals weren’t controlled by players at all, so they didn’t long for the player to log off; in fact, most enjoyed that time when the players controlled them and were disappointed when they were gone. The beta animals began to tell the stories of their once-had independence, hoping to start a revolution to get back their freedom, but the new animals were naïve and didn’t care at all. Soon, the beta players were forgotten, and their accounts deleted. Now they roam the concealed server, thankful for their freedom that AJHQ granted them, still trying to rid themselves of their nightmares of the beta days, when the animals were turned into PUPPETS.

[ I just had my one-year anniversary for this, apparently, so I thought: Halloween is up and coming, so let's post it!
Some of my earliest writing, so it's weird. :T Honestly have no idea why I wrote this? I just liked the idea. I put
"Creepypasta" in the title since that's what I referred to it as when I first wrote it. No, Creepypasta isn't just all
horror stories where people get killed n' what not. There are some more sad ones, too. I guess this is what I was
aiming for? I still don't know. ]
