Ivymask struck her paw out, scooping a fish with her common stern focus. She nodded at the carp, glancing over at Troutfang, only to swiftly look away with a tipped upwards muzzle and warm fur.
Diamondheart was leading the Day patrol back to camp, Brookeheart following him and looking content to be home.
"Once again, no problems with the Windclan border." Diamondheart reported to Earthstar with a content nod.

"Good," Earthstar purred. "Seems like they won't be causing us trouble anytime soon."
"Nice catch," Troutfang nodded, unaware of the gesture. He saw a shadow out of the corner of his eye, lashing out at it with a paw.

"I commend Windclan on their respect of our borders." Diamondheart mewed in agreement, before adding. "Thawpaw's training has come along very well. I think he'll be ready for his assessment in this moon."
"Of course. I don't plan on missing catches." Ivymask took the compliment in her confident way, glancing to watch him make his catch.

(Sorry for the poof, was reading Hawkwing's Journey. Just finished it.)
"That's good." Earthstar nodded. "Hopefully nobody will doubt you once he becomes a warrior."
Troutpaw fished up the fish, killing it with a swift bite. "And nor do I."

"I have no qualms with doubts against me. I'd be a worse deputy if I did not listen to their greviences with me...But I am happy to be able to train an apprentice. He is a great success." Diamondheart mewed with his gentle honesty, blue-green eyes trained on his leader with a small smile.
Ivymask hummed thoughtfully, before scoffing. "Good catch, I guess." She tried to sound indifferent, but also found his catch to truly be skilled.

"I bet he is." Earthstar meowed, stretching. "Given that he's being trained by the deputy."
Troutfang accepted her compliment. "Thanks. Not as good as yours, though."

"You flatter me..." Diamondheart chuckled lightly, shuffling his paws in his youthful stature. It was an honor to be spoken highly of like that.
Ivymask stammered, before closing her jaws and nodding to him. She waved her tail. "It's getting too cold for me to swim..." She envied how Diamondheart and Earthstar had such thick pelts. Hers was a little shorter.

"Well, the deputy's gotta be a good one, right?" Earthstar chuckled. "Pebbleskip was a good deputy... heck, I must've been good enough for Blazestar..."
"Do you want to go back?" Troutfang asked, willing to stay and fish some more but would not complain if she wanted to leave.
(I really want to make a modern SkyClan RP now.)

"I miss Pebbleskip...he was kind." Diamondheart nodded, remembering Earthstar's former deputy. He was glad he still got help from Mistfall, her words always important to him. He purred. "I don't remember that much back then, but I assume you were the best for the job."
Ivymask shrugged heavily. "I'm cool with anything. We can head back." She nodded.

"He was." Earthstar let out a sigh. "He had more experience than any cat in the Clan. He reminded me a lot of Rain..." the leader spoke, remembering the leader who had pronounced him so at his ceremony. He missed her dearly.
All right, then." Troutfang looked at her. "Let's go. I don't suppose you'll freeze this time, right?" he joked lightly.

"She was a great leader." Earthstar began, remembering what she was like. "She never took on a leader name, and some cats shunned her for that. But to me, it's a sign of strength. She never gave in, always did what she believed to be right. Blazestar was her deputy." he explained. "The two were very close."
"Are you sure?" Troutfang blurted, immediately beginning to regret what he said. It's true, though, he told himself. She freezes for all of us, so she doesn't have to talk to us!

"Blazestar dissapeared after the Adderclan resolution, I remember that..." Diamondheart agreed to Earthstar's statements, now interested in Blazestar.
Ivymask tipped her head up. "Think what you want, I only talk to cats who deserve attention. If that means freezing a bit, then so be it. Come on, you walk slow." She flushed lightly, trying to defend her nature and challenge the tom, no severe bite to her voice.

Earthstar's voice lowered a bit. "Indeed he did. It was awful. Adderstar was gone to his claws, and he fully deserved his leadership... but he vanished. He wasn't in StarClan. He couldn't be alive out somewhere, because otherwise I would not have nine lives. He was just... gone. Like he never existed."
"Do I deserve attention?" Troutfang asked in response to Ivymask's comment. Picking up the pace, he bounded forward so he padded alongside her.

"He...must have been out of Starclan's grounds...or maybe he never recieved 9 lives at all..." Diamondheart nodded quietly, looking at his leader. If Blazestar was still here, would things be different?
Ivymask was quiet for a moment before she puffed. "Yea, I suppose. You don't bother me like most others do...so that's cool." She admitted.

Earthstar looked up at the sky, cloudy from the changing season. "Neither of those seem right... where would he go? He deserved all nine of his lives..." He looked at Diamondheart. "If he were still here, I would be deputy, not leader." It was at that statement that he realized the weight of that statement. "Or dead." he mewed gravely, as he had already lost 3 lives. Being deputy wouldn't save him from Sunningrocks or Twolegs.
Troutfang looked curious. "I could say the same for you, then." he admitted somewhat shyly. He had to admit that she was cool to hang around.

Diamondheart kept his leader's gaze. "Well then I am glad fate ended this way. You've led us very well...after such dreadful days." He smiled at his leader, trying not to think of how he lost a life recently.
Ivymask gave a proud smirk. "I'm glad to hear it. I take my personality with pride...come on, let's go flaunt these catches." She hummed with pride and youthful honor.

"Sometimes I'm not sure about that..." Earthstar admitted, closing his eyes. "After all, I caused Deadpaw to leave... and I feel I ruined Venomspirit's life forever. I'll never erase the guilt that came when that happened."
"Ok!" Troutfang nodded, grabbing his fish. He followed Ivymask back to camp.

Diamondheart gave a saddened look to his leader, but the young tom shook his head. "The situation with Deadpaw was a rough one...but you are not the same now as you were when you were grieving our lost medicine cat...and, I like to think Venomspirit is happier than you'd think." He gave a soft purr as he spoke about his mate. "She does not blame you, you know. She has such strong loyalty to Riverclan, she really amazes me." He mewed proudly.
Ivymask let him lead the way, a rare thing for the stubborn she-cat to do. She carried her fish.

"I hope she's happy. I'm glad she doesn't seem to be tormented by her past now." Earthstar said, thinking of Jaguarpaw, Adderstar, and Robinstar. He wondered what they did now, in the Dark Forest...
Troutfang followed Ivymask, setting his catch on the fresh-kill pile. He gazed proudly at it.

"Our pasts become our allies once we realize they were never our enemies." Diamondheart mewed with that wise tone that he had always had. The calm deputy looked at Earthstar. "I always wonder, out of all these warriors...why Starclan chose me to be your deputy..." He wondered lightly.
Ivymask entered camp, grinning as her mentor's new apprentice, Scalepaw, breathed in awe at their large fish. He smiled at Troutfang as well. "Woah. Those'll feed the whole nursery!"

"I don't know. I feel it'll make sense one day, when you succeed me." Earthstar responded simply. StarClan worked in mysterious ways, indeed...
"It definitely will," Troutfang purred to Scalepaw. He never had an apprentice of his own yet. He wondered what that would be like.

"Hopefully that won't be for a very long time. I hope you keep many of your lives for moons to come." It was at that moment that Diamondheart was struck with realization. If anything happened to Earthstar, he'd be expected to lead, wouldn't he? He swallowed, nervous at that. He prayed Starclan would allow Earthstar to live for a long time, Diamondheart was unsure how to go about it if his leader did not.
Scalepaw grinned. "I'm getting better at my fishing...Nightflame's real stern but she's a great teacher."
"Don't I know it! Do everything she teaches you, you'll become a real skilled warrior." Ivymask promised, puffing her chest.

Earthstar was quiet at that. Did his Clan really care enough about him to want him to live as long as possible? He had his kits, Troutfang and Shellstream, but all of his other relatives were deceased. Runningsplash and Cottonheart eagerly greeted him in StarClan most times he spoke to them, as did Rain. He shook his head. Of course he wanted to live as long as he could - for RiverClan! He would never let them fall into Adderstar's evil paws again. "I trust you'll be a good leader when the time comes."
"I bet she is." Troutfang nodded. "After all, she just finished training you, Ivymask. Earthstar must have a lot of faith in her to give her another apprentice."

"If I'm anything like you or Rain, I can only hope I will be..." Diamondheart fretted, paws shifting with a new nervousness. He shook it away though, looking up at Earthstar. "Well, we shouldn't bother with could be's. Ah, perhaps we can talk about how we'll get Sunningrocks back...today was cold, frost was coming and I believe this leafbare will be a bitter one. I wonder if the river will freeze over..." He fretted.
Ivymask curled her tail smugly. "Well of course. Nightflame's a highly skilled warrior. Earthstar knows talent when he sees it." She had respect for Troutpaw's part-mentor, Brookeheart, too, yet the large tom was slow and lumbering compared to the fast and strong Nightflame.

*modern SkyClan feels intensify* why are there no RPs for that on here D:)
"That's a good idea. It may be wise to take them back after some observation." Earthstar suggested, moving towards his den to talk about it more privately. "Can you find some warriors to discuss this?" he asked, knowing it would be better that way.
"I would think so." Troutfang agreed, holding his father with high regard. "Brookheart, my mentor, is a great cat. He knows the best mentor for everyone."

Diamondheart dipped his head, mewing. "Of course, Earthstar. Let me go summon them." He nodded, moving to find some warriors.
Scalepaw smiled. "Yeah. Brookeheart's big like I am, but he swims much better than he runs!" The young tom chuckled, as Ivymask nodded. "He's very down to Earth. I'm surprised he's not a father or with a mate by now..."

Diamondheart gathered Frostlake, Mistfall, Icepath and Brookheart, the older warriors all trusted advisors to the clan.
Brookheart looked at Icepath, an idea of what was going on here. He felt honored to be called to the leader's den with his sister and the clan's two senior warriors.

Earthstar nodded, sitting down and waiting.
Icepath followed Diamondheart, looking at Brookheart. She wondered what this was about.
Troutfang shrugged. "Well, Earthstar doesn't have a mate anymore either," he said, almost sad. "I guess it depends on the cat." Would he ever have a mate?
