"Finally?" Littlebrook echoed, glancing up at the sun. It was barely above the treetops. "Fluffpaw, have you been awake since dawn? Unless you're assigned to the dawn patrol, there's no need to wake up so early." She was surprised that a new apprentice was awake so early, she must really be excited to train. "But if you're ready to go, perhaps some swimming practice is in order to burn off that energy." She twitched her whiskers in amusement. "Aren't I supposed to wake up early?" Fluffpaw puffed with confusion and defensiveness. She quickly relaxed though, when her mentor spoke about swimming. Even with the cold, the idea of practicing made her eager. Her pelt was easily one of the thickest and warmest in the clan. She looked like a snowball each day, and she hoped it would serve her well. "What are we waiting for then? Let's go!"

Littlebrook nodded. "As long as the river's not frozen over just yet, we ought to be alright, though we can't stay in the water for too long. It's far too cold to be taking a leisurely swim, and you can catch a nasty cough from being too cold," she explained, heading for the reed barrier around camp. "Perhaps a fishing lesson would be a good idea, too, before the ice keeps us from using the river," she added. "That sounds good." Fluffpaw nodded her contentment. She was beginning to like her mentor more, and could tell Littlebrook was experienced and dependable. A good clanmate and a helpful mentor. She flicked her puffy tail and mewed. "I want to catch a fish for the queens, if I can. I've never caught prey before." She looked riddled with anticipation as she padded after her mentor.

Littlebrook smiled at Fluffpaw's desire to feed the queens. "Hm, that shouldn't be too difficult," she replied, if Fluffpaw's conviction was anything to go by. She led her apprentice away from camp a ways ti where the river's current was a bit quicker. "This looks like a good spot," she meowed, wading into the water up to her belly. She shivered at the cold water soaked through her fur immediately and chilled her skin. "Take it slow, the cold can be pretty harsh at first, but you'll adjust to it." Fluffpaw lifted her chin and began wading into the water. The heaviness in her coat was always a bit uncomfortable, but it kept the cold at bay. She nodded slowly as she began carefully wading out. “Not too bad. I don’t think I’ll have too much trouble.”

"Just be careful, and if you feel like you're getting too cold, head back to shore," Littlebrook instructed, worried that Fluffpaw might overestimate her own abilities. For now, she let it slide, treading water against the current as she watched Fluffpaw's form in the water. “I’m okay, I think.” Fluffpaw called back with assurance, the water cold but not enough to pierce through her thick coat. She gave a nod of determination, but found herself struggling a bit to keep her thick body afloat. “Is it...supposed to be this heavy?”

Littlebrook frowned at her words, the cold water stinging her skin as she paddled back over to where Fluffpaw was. "Your fur is very thick, it's weighing you down," she replied. "Let's head back to the shore, that's enough for today." She hovered at Fluffpaw's side, wanting to make sure she got back okay. Fluffpaw gave a huff of dissapointment, but did as her mentor told her. She puffed out as she shook her fur. “I could have done more...”

"Don't get discouraged now. If you overestimate your abilities all you'll do is land yourself in the medicine den," Littlebrook warned, though her expression was friendly instead of stern. "It's nothing to worry about, it just means we'll have to build up your leg strength more before you cross the river entirely. You'll pick up that strength naturally in your battle and hunting lessons, as well." She gave her thick fur a shake, though her own pelt had become less soft-looking and more sleek from moons of swimming in the river. With time, so would Fluffpaw's, though her apprentice had a lot more fur than even Littlebrook did. "It's important to learn how to gauge when it's time to give up and try again later, and there's no shame in admitting defeat after you've given your all." Fluffpaw looked a bit dissapointed, but she soon sighed out. “Yeah...I guess so.” She shook her fur, noticing how snow was clumping to it and making her look even bigger. “Snow is annoying...but at least I blend in.”

(Heyo)
Littlebrook paused for a moment, thinking, before she meowed, "Well, if you're dry enough and still want to get some practice in, I can start you on some basic battle moves," she suggested, knowing Fluffpaw was likely not satisfied with half a swimming lesson. “That sounds good.” Fluffpaw perked quickly, lifting her chin and giving a bright look. “Show me what you got!”

Raven(kit) sat atop the warm rocks, a cool breeze ruffled his fluffy, yet unkept kit fur. He blinked sleep out of his bright, amber eyes and glanced around at his unfamiliar surroundings. A pang of sadness and regret tore through him, he was lost forever. How would Lilac find him now? He lay down and burried his head in his paws, he had no clue where he was.

Littlebrook nodded, leading Fluffpaw back into the forest until she found a dry, clear area for them to practice in. "Alright, we'll start with the foundation of every move I'll ever teach you, you're stance," she began, dropping easily into a practiced battle stance. "The key is to keep your weight evenly on your toes, that way you'll be able to react quickly to oncoming attacks. If you're unbalanced, you'll be too slow to react and easily knocked over." "Got it." Fluffpaw nodded. She knew some basic stance movements from her mother and father, but it would be the first time she'd be truly training with them. She crouched a bit, her thick coat making her seem like she was touching the ground with her belly. She moved her legs to balance herself, though she was a little off due to her size.

"Not a bad start," Littlebrook mused, moving to stand opposite of Fluffpaw. "The first moves I want to teach you are defense moves, specifically dodging and counterattacking." Those types of moves would be useful should another Clan decide to overstep their bounds and tresspass on RiverClan land. "Side stepping and ducking are easy and essential dodging moves, along with a duck and roll for momentum." “Side stepping and ducking, got it. How do we start?” Fluffpaw asked quickly, her voice firm and signifying her readiness for the training lesson.

"If an opponent was aiming to hit you on your head, would you side step or dodge? Those kinds of decisions have to be made immediately and by instinct."

I can step to the side to avoid it.” She followed her mentor’s stance carefully.

Littlebrook nodded her approval at Fluffpaw's answer. "That's right. If a blow were to come at you from the side, though, you'd want to duck your head. In that instance side stepping wouldn't do you much should. Would you like to practice those moves against me?" She was interested to see Fluffpaw's reflexed at work. “Yes! I want to try.” Fluffpaw exclaimed as though it was obvious, crouching and readying herself.
