mintedstar/fur I was looking through the fanfics and saw this WFF Newspaper. I was wondering if I could do anything to help? I saw you needed someone to do graphics. Do you need someone to do coding, also?

And thank you! Hum...big topics? The ones within the last two pages are The WFF World, Curse, New Blood, and the Absence of Rain. One on the Absence of Rain would be interesting.

Q: How did you get the idea for the absence of rain? When you got the idea when was the point when you wrote it down? A: I originally got the idea from a Tuesday Challenge prompt back in 2015. I don't remember the exact prompt, but it had something to do with the narrator losing something, I think. I didn't make the deadline, so the idea sat around in my drafts on the old WCF until the move, when I copied and pasted all my drafts to the new forums and rediscovered the idea. The minute I saw it again, I just knew I had to write it. So I did.
Q: What or who got you interested in writing? A: I give all the credit to two of my teachers in high school. One was my theology teacher and the other was, unsurprisingly, my English teacher. Both of them were so impressed by my writing and they were the ones who told me I had something special. They really encouraged me to go into English in college. I never knew I was particularly skilled at writing; I just thought it was normal to write like I did. It wasn't until they came into my life that I really started seeing writing as something I was uniquely talented at and something I could pursue as a career. Before, it was just a fun way to kick around fanfiction ideas. Now I'm taking classes on writing and it's awesome. I owe it all to them.
Q: When you made the title for the absence of rain, did you play around with any other titles or did that one fit from the beginning? Why did the title fit? A: In my first draft, the title was "In the Morning, When It Was Raining," after the poem by Delmore Schwartz. It was supposed to be a Tuesday Challenges one-shot, like I said, so it didn't need a title that encompassed a whole story, just a title that would work for a thousand words or so. It was about a cat who was found on the Thunderpath in the morning, when it was raining, so it fit. But when I decided to make the idea into a full-fledged fanfiction, I had to take another look at the title and see if it was still the best fit for the story. Obviously I decided to change it to "The Absence of Rain," which is kind of a play on the name of the character Rainpaw, who died before the story began. You can technically read it as "The Absence of Rainpaw," which is just a fun bit of symbolism I threw in there. I also made it so that the rain stopped when Gullpaw enters the story, further emphasizing the title. Later chapters will touch on the effects a lack of rain can have on a landscape and those who live there, so it'll still be relevant throughout the story. See if you can figure out what rain represents as the story goes on. It might not even be a symbol for just one thing.
Q: How long does it take for you to write a chapter? A: Honestly, it depends on the chapter and how busy I am with school. Some chapters I can sit down and churn them out just like that, in one sitting. Others fight me a bit, and it takes a few drafts to come up with something I'm happy with. I'd say the easiest chapter might get finished in less than two hours, since I wrote chapter eight between classes one day.
Q: Which, if any, authors or books have inspired you? A: I don't have any specific inspirations for this story in particular, but I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett, Maggie Stiefvater, and Scott Westerfeld. Obviously Warriors has played a big role in my writing, since the forums were the first place I really started writing seriously. I'll also include a shoutout to JimmyDan, whose Zelda one-shots leave me breathless. I aspire always to capture that poetic flow. And, of course, inversereality, the great and wonderful wcf writer who's been nothing but encouraging throughout the whole process. ily sere! <3
Q: What part of the story was the hardest to write? The easiest? A: Chapter seven was definitely a struggle for me. I'm not great with action sequences, especially fight scenes. But I made it through somehow! Pro tip: never let your writing weaknesses stop you from writing your next chapter. As far as easiest, I'm strongest with emotional writing, so things like chapter eight and some of the earlier chapters are definitely easier for me.
Q: If you were reading the story instead of writing it, would it be the type of story you would read? Why? A: Oh, boy. I am terrible at rating my writing objectively, so I'm not totally sure on this question. I hope I'd read it! I think I'd like the style of it, and the way it has such a melancholy overtone. It's a story of overcoming loss and grief, and that's something that's been prevalent throughout my life, so I think it would be something I'd read.
Q: What is the most surprising thing a fan has ever said to you? A: I was definitely surprised by the fans' reactions to Gullpaw after chapter three. Everyone just wanted to adopt him, haha. I'm not quite as fond of him, I guess. Which is terrible, since I'm his creator. But to be frank, he represents a lot of me, the darker parts and the harder days and the things I was never brave enough to do. He's really the manifestation of my depression, the part of me that would have given anything to be the one on that Thunderpath. So it's hard for me to be totally lovey-dovey with him, since he's me, and I've always struggled with loving me.
Q: If your characters were human and they went to school which would be the popular kid? The loner? The one that tells all the jokes? A: Gullpaw is definitely the loner, the mysterious edgy kid who always wears dark hoodies and all the girls have crushes on him. Rainpaw is the popular kid, president of all the clubs, friends with everyone, straight As, literal angel. Robinpaw's the joker. Lots of self-deprecating memes, probably. He's the kid who has asthma and has to keep going to the nurse for his inhaler because he was laughing so hard he couldn't breathe. Bonus: Garjaw as the grumpy lunch lady, complete with hair net. Have fun with that image.
Q: Which song would be the one that reflects your story the most? A: I have an actual playlist for this story, actually. Some featured songs: - Rising, Rising by Crywolf - probably the best fit for the story overall - Swords and Pens by The Story So Far: not quite the right musical tone, but the lyrics are perfect for Gullpaw - Fortress by Bear's Den - Mudstream and Petalthroat - Landfill by Daughter - throw Gullpaw in the landfill, he is my garbage child
