Ah... Breezepelt. Before I start my rant.. I really do not like him. Yes, he is a well-developed villain. I like his story, and Breezepelt as a character. But personality-wise? Nope. He's terrible.
Breezekit.. we didn't know much about him as a kit. But from what we do know, as an apprentice, he got into a lot of trouble. Many cats didn't like him for his behavior. Only Heatherpaw/tail was the only one who liked him as a friend. Perhaps he did bad things to get his father's attention. Breezepaw was never really praised by Crowfeather. And we all know that Crowfeather didn't pay a lot of attention to his own son. Breezepaw is furious with this, furious at the fact that his father didn't love him enough.
But... let's not put Crowfeather all to blame.
Nightcloud.
Oh, Nightcloud.
Nightcloud isn't the greatest parent, either. I don't know why Crowfeather is getting blamed for everything here, while Nightcloud is no better. And really, I think Crowfeather's even done more than his own mother! For example, Crowfeather saved Breezepaw when he was nearly buried alive, and on the way to the Tribe, he saved him from falling off a cliff. Breezepaw wasn't thankful for it, either. Clearly he's forgotten.
So, while I do believe that both parents do care for Breezepelt, both parents aren't very good, either. Nightcloud raised her own son to dislike his father. She didn't even give him a chance. Breezepelt never had his own opinion. And from what we've seen, we've seen Nightcloud telling Crowfeather to "have more faith in their son,". While, yes, Crowfeather should have had more faith in him, that doesn't mean she should have fueled more anger in Breezepelt's brain. We have also seen Nightcloud giving Breezepelt bad raising examples by fighting with Leafpool right in front of him and dragging Crowfeather away. That shows how possessive he is. And since Breezepelt looks up to his mother, I'm frightened he will be possessive of Heathertail if she made contact with Lionblaze, or become possessive with his children.
Breezepelt's also shown hatred for his siblings for no good reason. Why hate on the Three for something that wasn't their fault? They didn't lie to him. Leafpool did! Leafpool lied to everyone and betrayed the Clans. The Three didn't even know who their real parents were! So why blame them over something that they didn't even know about before?
Breezepelt took things too far. He wanted Poppyfrost, a pregnant she-cat, dead, just to frame Jayfeather. Poppyfrost didn't even understand the quarrel between the two brothers. Even if Breezepelt only threatened to harm Poppyfrost.. it doesn't matter. You shouldn't put more stress onto a pregnant she-cat. And even if he didn't kill Poppyfrost, he was willing to kill Jayfeather, a medicine cat at that.
Oh, and can I also mention how much I hated how Breezepelt was glad that Hollyleaf died? Breezepelt's just terrible. He does not deserve to be within his own Clan and he should have been exiled. Onestar is a fool for trusting him. It doesn't matter how Breezepelt's parents treated him and it doesn't matter how much he's gone through. Breezepelt was willing to kill just because he was angry with his father, and he needed to get over it. Breezepelt should have moved on the moment Crowfeather apologized in TLH. Crowfeather is right: It is too late. Breezepelt makes his own choices. He's a warrior. He messed up his own life. I say, Breezepelt deserves the Dark Forest.
