Darktail's group's big thing is "everyone should be able to have prey!" But in TAQ we see that they don't let the entire group have prey. They have to fight for it, even elders and queens and kits
like...i think you're keeping cats in need from prey more than territories are

This is why Needletail and the others are in for a big surprise. They think Darktail is all for equality, but I bet you when times get tough and there isn't enough prey to go around they'll be the first to starve to death.

That's the thing.
He says that there's no rules and everything is chill and everyone is free and the same and equal, but when push comes to shove, like he clearly demonstrated to Rain, he's the leader and he makes the rules. Everyone else are just pawns that he uses to become more powerful, thus making his ideology looking more enticing, theoretically speaking.
But those that are more sensitive to this lack of respect and structure, such as Violetpaw, are more likely to realize that he doesn't act what he preaches.
