Grace slowly nodded, a thoughtfully look showing on her features. "Yes, I have a little brother who had better still be alive." A cool edge to tone, if anyone touched him she'd have their head. "Both of my parents aren't around anymore so I'm normally looking after him." That is until someone up and stole her fleet, at the moment she wasn't looking after anyone and it was actually a weird feeling when she thought about it.

James smiled, "Well I'm sure anyone would feel safe with the Red Reaper as an older sister. I'm sure you do a good job at keeping him safe" He said lightly. But he was curious about the age of the boy. Was he past coming of age as well? "Has he come of age?"

Grace shrugged, she had left out the part where her brother also happened to be blind in one eye and had a temper that was easily sparked. "...He can be difficult to protect even for me." She admitted tightly. Sighing she nodded. "He is 16, but he's still a boy and doesn't seem terribly interested in acting older. It doesn't help that some of his friends that are near in age age are not Irish, so they aren't of age." She tried to explain. "So I'm letting him do what he pleases not having to worry about politics or a future marriage."

James laughed a bit, "I'll bet he doesn't even know how much of a blessing that is. I don't know either. Politics and marriage are all saved for the King and Queen. We don't see any of it down in the lower lands" He said lightly. But inwardly he was glad. Had he or his sister married for alliances, he wouldn't be able to bare it. Although he was a pirate, James was a firm believer in marrying for love and nothing else.

Grace couldn't help but smile. "He already told me that he has no interest in any of it, so that leaves it all to me." She admitted, even though her brother had no interest in being a chieftain he still had a lot his shoulders as a member of the ruling family. "My uncle is the same way, he left it all to my father and spends his time sailing or with his wife who wasn't the daughter of some ruler. I've seen arranged marriages turn out great like my parents who did love each other, and others..." Trailing off in distaste at the thought of the foul marriages she had both seen and been involved in.

James rubbed the back of his neck thoughtfully. "Hm, I would think arranged marriages would be hard to find love in." He said with a small frown. He looked up at Grace, "So you're a chieftain? A woman can be a chief?" He asked curiously. In England a woman couldn't rule by herself. She had to marry a Noble or another royal and then he would take most of the control over the country instead of her anyway. Apparently the Irish did things differently.

"My parents had known each other since they were children, so they are an exception as most don't." Grace explained, some arranged marriages she had heard of the pair involved had never met before. Letting out a sigh at James question, this was something she heard more often then not. "I am her Lady Gráinne Ní Conaill, or merely Lady Grace. Yes I am a chieftain..." Pausing to grin at her own name and released a huff of amusement. "Women typically are not chiefs, and if so it is generally because their husband died and no one else is able to take their place." She responded with a small shrug.

James listened curiously. At least there were a few cases like her parent's were the arranged marriage worked in fsvor of love. But he couldn't bare to think about what all the others had to go through. He grinned as she mentioned her full name. It was fitting for her, strong and independant. "So are you a special case then?" He asked quietly. But then he remembered her mention of her daughter. Her husband must've died. "I'm sorry" He quickly mumbled, wishing he hadn't asked.

Grace shrugged at the question, she didn't mind. There was little love in her heart for the man she had been married too, but yes she was a special case in her mind. "Well actually I am indeed a special case since I was technically single when I became chief." She admitted with a grim smile. "My father had passed when I was 18 leaving my uncle or I next in line, seeing as my uncle had no love for the position it was easy for me to step up to the job. And surprisingly there were little to no problems with it." She retold thoughtfully, it was a time of her life she didn't often talk about by choice as there was a lot of memories and issues that would be best forgotten. But right now she could just keep out all of those details and stick to the better.

James looked at her, clearly impressed. "So your husband passed before you were even chief?" He said in surprise. But she didn't seem very saddened by the thought of being single. "But I'm assuming by the way you talk that you weren't very happy with your arranged marriage in the first place" He said lightly.

Grace's jaws tightened at the question, it wasn't a question that she enjoyed answering at all. "We never saw eye to eye and we ended up divorced, but hardly a couple day later he was killed in a skirmish with another clan. All of this shortly before my father's own death." She explained stiffly, mentally withdrawing herself from the conversation. It was a sore subject as there was rumor in the clans that she was responsible for both deaths that ultimately led to her sudden growth in power, and it had proved to b hard to snuff out.

James's mood sobered. "I'm sorry to hear that" He said quietly. That had been a sudden shift in conversation and it wasn't a pleasant shift either. He ran a hand through his hair and quickly changed the subject. "So do the clans have names? Or are they simply referred to as 'This Clan' or 'That Clan'?" James asked curiously, hoping to put his last question out of the way and lift the mood a bit.

Grace quietly eyed James for a moment before replying with a sigh, "They tend to go by the last name of the ruling family such as clan Ó Conaill or O'Connell, also O'Neill, Burke, Joyce, McDonnell, they go by names like that but generally the Irish version of the name." She answered, her tone was still sounding a little stiff and blunt.

James nodded, that would mean the clan names would change if they received a chief that was not of the bloodline of the original family. He smiled a bit at a sudden thought. What if he was a Irish chieftain. James glanced at Grace. "So I was a chieftain my clan's name would be the Crow Clan?" He asked with a small grin.

Grace shrugged at the question, a small smile showing his silliness helped melt away her uneasiness. "Well the ruling families have been around for hundreds of years, and many people in the clans are relatives of them so there tends to be a lot of people with the same surname as it has to do with an ancestor who had the name. I've actually never seen or heard of names changing as there has always been someone who shares that family line." She explained. "This is all awfully confusing when you really get into it." She chuckled. "I don't see why not but you don't exactly have a clan." She teased lightly.

James grinned, "Do you think my crew would be against a little change? I'm thinking, if they could put on a Irish accent they could be my clan and I can be the leader" He teased with a small laugh. The thought of his crew becoming a fake clan was amusing enough. But Irish accents? That'd be something to see. And hear as well.

"I have no idea, but if they can let me know because that is something I'd like to see." Grace answered with a large grin, narrowing her eyes thoughtfully. A mischievous smile replacing the grin. "Well if ya think that they can pull it off let me know, they'd need to be able to actually speak Irish though." Her good yet fake British accent was completely done away with making her natural accent stronger then she normally let it become due to safety purposes.

James laughd and shook his head, "Oh, that would be a sight alright. They'd probably toss me overboard for embaressing them. Or even suggesting such a thing" He laughed a bit and sighed. "They might be able to pull it off. You can certainly do a good Enlish accent to cover your Irish one." He said lightly, taking notice of the Irish accent that had slowly taken over her tone of voice. "And if we have to, you could always teach us a bit of Irish" James joked with a large grin. He knew he wouldn't be able to learn another language anyway, not for the life of him.

"Well if that ever happens they had better invite me so I can stand there and laugh at you." Grace teased with chuckle, she was always up for watching that kind of thing. Tossing people overboard could be considered a hobby of hers. "Even if they could mimic us some clan would try to kill them for insulting them because they aren't Irish." Pausing at the mention of her accent that she still wasn't hiding. "Well most of us don't speak English, but since I do and have to deal with shipping, trade and pirating it's better to hide my accent all together." She explained with a small shrug. "I'm hoping to not be around here long enough to teach anything." She admitted, getting back to her fleet and going home was at the top of her priorities. Eyeing James thoughtfully for a moment. "I think I should probably call it a night rather then talking here forever."

James laughed, wiping tears from his cheeks. The picture was enough to make him laugh so hard his gut hurt. He couldn't image actually seeing it himself. When Grace mentioned going to bed, he quieted. She was probably right, but he'd been enjoying there conversation. Either way, he needed to head up as well. But not for sleep. "Your probably right. I need to head to my courters anyway. I've got a course to chart on the map and weather and water to look at. I'll probably be up all night" He said with a sigh, stepping away and moving toward the stairs leading to the captains courters. "We're going to reach the English Channel a day after tomorrow." He reminded her over his shoulder, "I'm not sure about you, but I'm getting anxious. Maybe a little nervous, but lets keep that to ourselves" James admitted, flashing her a small grin over his shoulder.

Grace couldn't help but smile at his tears and laughter, having decided that James was a amusing person to be around and he seemed to have an oddly happy demeanor; it was probably from being sailing again. Nodding quietly when he said that was headed to the quarters, following behind him. "Well have fun with those." She said jokingly, raising an eyebrow the mention of the channel and him being anxious. "Me, nervous?" Huffing in amusement. "Never." Grinning right back at him, truthfully she was worried that something would go wrong but that was something she'd keep to herself.
( You know I wonder what the crew thinks of their captain dragging this random girl along and that they are going somewhere because of her cx )

James laughed and lightly and shook his head with another chuckle. He glanced back at her as he jogged up the stairs, "Well you can't blame me for trying to see if you had some sort of fear" He teased, "But obviously, you are a fearless cheiftain lady." James said lightly, chuckling a bit at himself. He pulled open the door to the captain's courters and stepped inside, moving to light a lamp at the table.
(xD we could always add a bit of drama and have the crew disapprove of command under a woman's agenda or something?)

"Indeed and I can't believe you would question me." Grace replied in a playfully haughty voice with a huff and roll of her eyes. Also jogging up the stairs in an attempt to keep up with James's pace. "How dare you do such a thing." She added in an English accent that was obviously mocking the British nobles. She found it immensely amusing to make fun of nobles with their funny voices and entitled attitudes. Quietly following him inside before heading over to the door that opened into the room that had been decided for her use.
( Yes along with finding out they are going to the English Channel cx I love drama. )

James laughed and lit a lamp, setting it on the small round table. He grabbed a few maps and water chart, setting them on the table as well. He turned around and looked at Grace. "I'll see you in the morning then?" James asked quietly. The silence that had fallen on the ship since the crew went to sleep made him feel the need to whisper. (xD We can make this next day a day full of crew drama and such and then the next day they'll make it to the Channel )

Grace had barely opened the door, a small smile gracing her features when she realized James speaking to her. Pausing she looked back at him and nodded. "Probably." She replied in a soft yet teasing voice, she had no where else to go so yes he'd see her in the morning. And that that she walked into the room and closed the door, now to at least try and get some sleep.
( We should do that cx I'd love to see how James and Grace react to that. )

James flashed her a small grin and then went back to gathering maps as she entered her room. He finally gathered all of the needed maps and sat down with a heavy sigh. It was going to be a long night. He slid the lantern clser to the maps and pulled out his writing quill. Giving yet another sigh, he began making notes and charting their course.
(Okey dokey, we can have fun with a bit of drama then xD Should we skip to morning?)

(xD Sure, I was going to suggest me starting first anyway xD)
James jerked awake as something clattered to the floor. He jumped to his feet, seeing the maps and papers shrewn on the floor. He'd fallen asleep at the table. But he couldn't be worried about that now. What was the cursed ship doing? The floor beneath him swooped and swayed and James charged toward the door. Just as he grabbed the handle a knock rapped relentlessly on the door. Yanking the door open, James found himself face to face with Berlin. One of the more experienced and trusted part of his crew. "What is it man?!" James practically roared as he tried to steady himself. "Captain. We were heading straight toward the English Channel. We swung the boat about, but hit rough waters! If we hadn't turned her about, another day and we'd have met the British with their guns cocked and ready to fire!" Berlin shouted over the wind.

( Oh this is perfect, I'm dying. )
Grace had been sleeping as peacefully as possible on the edge of the bed after lying there awake at least half of the night thinking, not even bothering to change out of her dress or touch the bandage on her arm. Slowly beginning to wake up, but it was indeed a very slow process. That's when the ship seemed to have jerked around and made her fall off of the bed right onto the hard floor, which wasn't comfortable to say the least along with the bruises on her body which hurt. "Ow!" She yelped, cursing as she sat up before jumping to her feet; almost falling over due to the boat's shaking. What was going on?

(xD I figured it'd be pretty funny and then it'll bring up the topic of Grace xD)
James's jaw almost dropped to the ground. "You bloody twit!" James suddenly roared to life. He hardly noticed Berlin's stricken expression as he shoved past the man. James glanced around the frantically, seeing the crew bustling about. He swung back toward Berlin. "What in the devils name made you think you should turn this thing around?!" He shouted stumbling backwards at the tossing of the ship. He grabbed the railing and glowered at Berlin. The man, still looking stricken and shocked finally managed to stutter out an answer. "Captain-they-we were going toward the English Channel! They'll throw us in prison!" Berlin practially whimpered over the wind. James threw his hands up in exasperation. "I bloody know that man!?" James roared in answer, but regretting throwing his hands as a large wave shoved into the side of the ship and James was thrown into the other man.
