Pandora yelped in surprise and jumped back into a defensive stance. She was certainly not a fighter- she was too caring for that- but that didn't mean she couldn't appear threatening. She growled at the other dog, "Who are you?" Pandora's bi-colored gaze was piercing with dominance. Her golden eye flashed in a challenging way.

(Quick question. Can I make a merchant dog that hangs around a certain area outside pack territory?) If you take a look at the Glossary, as necessary to begin with, you will find that there are "Nomads" who hang around—several types of them, in fact. The downside is, this type of dog is mainly constituted by artists—Smiths, Clothiers, etc.—with the exception of Traders, so your dog is going to have to acquire some skill before becoming a Nomad, unless you opt for the easy route. Your dog must start out without a pack or standing, like everyone else's, however. ]

The Epidemic: The Epidemic is the fatal disease that annihilated the Safeguarded and created the Beasts. This disease is the main event of the story, and is what gave rise to the plotline of The Wilderness to begin with. It is unknown how the Epidemic came to be, but few dogs dare study the Beasts for fear of being attacked or contracting illnesses/parasites. lozi, could you replace the ":" here with a —? Thank you. ]

Harper winced as a loud clap of thunder seemed to shake the sky. Rain poured down on the city, puddles of water forming with rapid succession. She had long since finished her old hare, and retreated to the backside of her shelter to avoid the splashes of the raindrops. She shivered, the rain causing a cold front to blow in as well. Her auburn fur was slightly dampened from the rain's mist, not helping the situation. I hate the rain. She thought, letting out a huff.

He laughed. "I was thinking, if your belly fat lasted that long since your People, I wonder how much they fed you! C'mon, if we try hard enough we can find something easy. Maybe we can find some spoils to get into. There is a Human store that the People used to go to to get food for them to eat. Maybe, we'll be able to find something."
Gesturing to her with his tail, he led her along the street, towards the Human store. He made sure to pace his strides, so as the dame could keep up with him. Clearing the path as he went, he pushed sharp stones, or pushed over precariously stacked Human trash. They clattered to the ground. Satisfied that nothing would fall on, trip, or injure the she-dog and her swollen belly, he jumped around in front of the Human store door. When the sensors detected him, the doors flew open, and he leaned against one to let her in without the door closing on her. April gave a short laugh before following him. She made sure to stay on the path that he had marked out for her, knowing that it was done in her and her pups best interest. Crossing the entry way, the mother dog carefully placed on foot in front of the other and perked her ears. When she was sure that the coast was clear, she entered more confidently into the small store.
It was empty. Dust, piled one or two inches high, covered every surface and the smell of death bombarded her nose. The stench was so horrible that she recoiled and she looked around in search of the thing that was creating great such a smell. Her eyes landed on a rotting arm sticking out from underneath a pile of furniture. Blood, brown and dry, surrounded the limb. April gasped at the sight, "Oh Sseus... He's been crushed."

Edge to Blitz
Edge crouched into the bushes, praying the dog wouldn't screw it up. She'd better have experience, being a setter, she should at least have instincts. Maybe, if he was lucky, she was used for hunting, and would be able to do it right. His heart soared, and moreover, his stomach growled as he heard hooves pounding towards him. As he crouched to leap, the deer leaped over the bush. He swore under his breath. The deer must have smelled him! He wasted no time, springing straight up out of the bush, he rammed his head into the deer's ribs. He heard a sharp crack, and the buck lashed out, catching his muzzle with a sharp hoof. His head snapped to the side, and his muzzle gushed blood. He whipped his head back, biting at the deer, and catching the leg of the deer. It got up, dragging him slowly across the clearing. He let go but quickly surged forward, headbutting the deer in the ribs. It let out a scream of pain, and went down. It didn't get up, and its eyes were closing. They didn't open again. Edge's muzzle was covered in blood, but not just his own. He touched his bloodied muzzle to the mangled flank, as it swelled with air, and exhaled. The flanks stopped heaving, and he murmured his apologies for not giving the buck a clean kill.
"Come forth and give gratefulness for your prey. Then, we can eat." Blitz approached him with a mixture of awe and respect. She knew what his breed was capable of, but seeing the way he took down the deer reinforced the fact that he was a dangerous predator who would be a useful ally and a deadly foe. He was shorter, smaller, less fast than her, but he carried himself with confidence and pride. The Setter liked that.
Blitz bowed her head over her meal and gave a short prayer of thanks before digging in. The meat was tough, tougher than anything she had ever eaten before, but each bite was like a firework of flavor exploding in her mouth. She moaned in pleasure and shoved her shout into the bloodied meat, ripping off another chunk. Soon, when her belly was heavy with the weight of food and her coat dyed red with blood, she gave a sigh of relief and flopped over onto her side, "Thank you for the meal! That's the best I've eaten in years." The female set to cleaning herself up and then as if she had remembered something, jerked her head over to Edge, "Hey, great teamwork! I couldn't have done it without you." Blitz smiled lazily at him and then resumed her resting.

Rhapsody squealed happily pummeling the smaller dog with her paws, yipping and growling at him all the while. All of a sudden, the dog bolted away, slamming into a wall. She winced as he yelped, wondering what he had been thinking. However, when she saw him tearing at the corpse of a rat, her own belly growled, reminding her of her primal need for food for survival.
She caught herself from saying 'nice', instead choosing her words more carefully. "I've never seen a dog catch a rat like that before..." She could only imagine finding something to eat for herself, and her stomach churned. Not waiting to see if the other dog followed, she turned, to see what prey she could find. If she scrounged around Court Square at the Chinese restaurants, maybe she could find some mice to eat. Woodrow saw Rhapsody leaving, and, grabbing the pulpy remains of the rat, skittered in her wake.
"Getting food?" he quipped, tail wagging tentatively, as they zigzagged around.
Well, obviously, said a negative voice. She surely isn't going to go buy antiques at Lock, Stock & Barrel. "Yeah! You seem to be good at hunting! Maybe you could help me? I was thinking that we could go by one of the Chinese Buffets and see if the mice are still around to scrounge the spoils that are left. You know, the ones in the Court Square?"
She kept herself at a brisk pace, her short legs reaching to maximum stride. Clearly, the little dog was starving. She hadn't eaten in a while because... Well, she wasn't a good hunter. However, it was visible to the naked eye. Her short legs, flat muzzle, wheezing breaths, it was clear she wasn't quite cut out for the 'survival life.'

He didn't know this dog, and what would set her off to fight. "My name is Max. I'm an Airedale Terrier. I didn't mean to crash into you, I was just really scared."

He didn't acknowledge Blitz while he ate, not out of rudeness. It was clear that he was starving. His stomach expanded, from thin, and barely coating his ribs, to heavy, and swollen with warm flesh. He began to look less skinny as his stomach swelled to hold all the meat. His skin stretched over his ribs. When he finished he flopped onto the ground, sighing. "Well, we're a team now. It's what teams do. They help each other." He grinned, clearly fond of the dog he had met. "I have to say, you did pretty great yourself. I can see why you were a gunner dog. You really had some strategy chasing that deer."

PARKER immediately leapt in front of the dame, blocking him from the sight. "Hey, don't worry, he wouldn't have survived the disease. This may have been a more merciful death than losing his sanity to the disease. You stay here, and try not to look at him. I'll see what I can find."
He went towards the freezers in the back, nosing through the room temperature area. Finding a cold box, he grabbed at the handle, and nosed open the door. A tiny wave of cold hit his thin pelt, and he shivered. The cold box must not have been opened since the disease. That must've meant that what was left of the cold air was contained inside the box. With any luck, it was enough to have some food that didn't spoil.
Jackpot! There was packaged red meat, from what smelled like a cow. He grabbed several of the slightly cooled packs, fitting as much as he could in his wide jaws, and held some with his chin to his chest. Trotting slowly back towards April, Parker muttered around the steaks, "I've got the steaks. Let's find somewhere proper to eat."

Невыносимая коммунизм"Sounds like life treated you well. I had my people two. A family of two elderly. I protected them." She shook her head. "Now they're gone." Going to the food box, she stuck her muzzle into the handle like she had seen her humans done, and shoved open the door. Nosing through what was in the box, she pulled out a bag of room temperature carrots, and pulled out a carton of eggs. She chewed open the papery covering, but flinched away, as a foul scent hit her nose. "I guess eggs don't last very long, huh?" Continuing her process, she shook her head. "Aside from the carrots, there's nothing left." Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "The bathroom! They always kept a huge box of food up there, to feed me with!" She scampered up the stairs, her flag like tail signaling her path. She was scratching at a large box, filled with food. "Help me tip it over."

(Thanks ) Amber looked at the lodge and smiled. It was still in pretty good shape. "That looks like a good shelter to spend a little while in. I will go scout the area to make sure nothing bad is there." The former police officer walk confidently, but quickly around the building, peering in the Windows every so often to check for Beasts and other unwanted creatures. Amber pricked her ears, listening for dangerous sounds, and sniffing around for good measure. All she heard were the birds singing their songs, oblivious to the destruction around them. After making sure absolutely nothing was in there, Amber went back to where Becca was standing. "All clear," she barked. "It does look pretty nice in there. I think you picked a good shelter," she added kindly.

The sky seemed to split at the seams, pouring out rain. Becker dashed under the porch, calling out to Amber, "Hurry, before you get soaked!" Another bolt of lightning struck from the sky, hitting a tree. The wood screamed, splitting down the middle, and catching fire. It collapsed, smoke rolling out of the forest. "Come on Amber!" She held the door open, waiting for her.

"Alright," said Lad, getting up, without even turning his head. He noticed that cloudbanks lay on the outskirts of the sky like observant predators, but shrugged off the speculation and turned his attention to Brimstone. "Follow me." He pushed onward to the north, where a jumbled haze of buildings blocked out the world beyond. He turned once or twice to see if the other dog was following, but hesitated midway each time; he didn't want to run into the stray tree or streetlight.
[BRIEF TIME-SKIP]
He halted in front of a monotonous–looking building, its once–white siding yellowed with exposure to the elements. The sky let out a loud crack of thunder, and the rain began to pour down. Brimstone's ears flicked forward, and he muttered a curse under his breath. "Get inside, quickly." He ran behind the other dog, nosing him with his haunches. He didn't realize it, but he was standing in front of him protectively. "I'll watch the sky, you get the door open."

(FOR THE RECORD) NORTH - GREYHOUND - PATROLLER
Name: North Age: 1 year Birthday: Wednesday, January 7th Horoscope: Capricorn Gender: M Breed: Greyhound Rank: Patroller Sexual Orientation: (Conflicting Bi) North always thought he was straight, but recently, he's been having some second thoughts about male dogs.
DESCRIPTION Height: 31 inches Weight: 88 pounds Build: North is built for speed, with an aerodynamic, slim body shape. He has a narrow head, long legs, and bulgingly muscular hindquarters. He has a large rib cage, encasing huge lungs, optimal for the most oxygen for sprints. His underbelly starts large with his chest and ribs, and thins towards his hind legs. Scent: Since greyhounds don't have much of a strong doggy scent, his scent must be incredibly recent in order to be detected. However, on his body and recent haunts, he has a tinge of earthiness. The combination of weak scent due to non-oily fur, and earthiness can make him very difficult to detect. Gait: An overall swift, light, trotting movement. Walk: Bouncy and light, medium length strides Run: Hyperextending spine enables longest stride possible, strong paws enable traction and grip, long legs reach forward, and muscular hindquarters propel the thin, aerodynamic body forwards. Altered: No Infertile: No
Appearance: North is a stunning dog, with his elongated muzzle, and rounded, dome-ish skull. His eyes are beautiful, blazing cinammon. His fur is very short, not even an inch grown from his skin, but makes a pattern common to black greyhound known as snowflaking. His muscles are constantly rippling under his thin pelt. North sports an ashy, charcoaly greyed black pelt with white flecks throughout. For a greyhound, he looks incredibly athletic, and muscular, especially in his hindquarters, as his breed will. His neck is thick, tapering into a sleek head and muzzle His ears are the bunched, velvety type that is a standard for greyhounds. His toes have a high bridge, and he has thick, rough pads. His tail is thin, all ashy grey, with a white tip. It is strong, and whip-like when he wags it back and forth.
Personality: North is a young dog, but that doesn't make him cower in front of older, or bigger dogs. He can be very aloof and indifferent, and dismissive to the dogs he doesn't know. However, he can be very affectionate to the dogs that he does know, and will become very protective and attached to them, almost clingy. He can be lazy, and can be prone to striking out to those who tell him what to do. He isn't very quick to trust people, but once he does, he becomes very hurt and vengeful if he finds he misplaced his trust. He has a strong feeling of urgency to feel accepted by the pack, in a way that they respect him, and don't hinder him to his fight for power. He is very ambitious, and independent. He likes a job well done. He can be very quick to anger, and often seems to jump from one emotion to another. He can be angry one moment, and completely calm next. However, don't mistake his calmness, for sometimes it can be the quiet before the storm. Overall, this dog is larger than life, protective and clingy to those he befriends, aloof to those he doesn't, ambitious, and has almost a BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) sort of temperament.
Relationships Lad: Being the ambitious dog that he is, he is looking for him to either cooperate as he fights his way up the ranks, or he will go after him and his Beta himself. Brimstone: He plans to make it into hunting, and despises Brimstone for placing him into the patrolling section, when he so clearly belongs in a hunting position, maybe even hunt captain. He plans to get him back, in either a fight for the place as a Beta, or to shame him by becoming the best hunter. He knows however, that Brimstone wouldn't dare place him any lower than the Watch Captain, appointing him as the first patroller, second in patrolling to the Watch Captain. He has a suspicion that the Beta knows that he (North) could defeat him, so he places him into a low ranking. Woodrow: North is alright with the Patrol Captain, and does his best to show that he has no intent of taking his place. He enjoys talking occasionally with his superior. Woodrow is the only dog that he views as a superior, aside from the Alpha, Beta, and dames and veterans. Hunters: He views himself as an equal to them, and makes sure that they know it. April: He favors April, since she is a mother dog. He is constantly bringing her food and checking in on her.
Habits Prone to nipping smaller dogs, and when they run, he may chase them. When angered with a dog, he will whip them with his long, bony tail. Distinctive Characteristics Large, muscles. Unique snowflake patterning Tallest dog in the pack. (31 in)

(Currently making my Nomad dog ) Amber nodded and sniffed around. She detected a delicious aroma wafting through her nostrils. Was that bacon? Her mouth watered as she raced to its location. The German shepherd came across a door with no handle and pushed it open. She entered what looked like a large kitchen. The feminine padded over to a large freezer that smelled strongly of meat. Bacon, steak, chicken, she smelled it all. Amber grabbed the freezer handle with her strong jaws and yanked hard. It was extremely hard to open, and the process took 15 minutes before she finally got it open. The molly placed her back bag on the ground and filled it with three packages of bacon and two large steaks. Amber dragged the haul back to to main room and barked, "I found some meat!" Loudly so Becca could hear. The feminine sighed and hopped onto a large couch and stretched out on it, casually waiting for Becca to return.

The material seemed to crumble upon the sudden onslaught of force; it split apart, leaving nothing to protect them from outsiders.
They'd need to go inside of one of the inner rooms.
