@shootforthestars
Edge to Blitz
The dog shook himself. This dog was not intimidated. He could make her intimidated if he wanted to, with a quick nip, but straightened up. There was no one to protect now, and she was not a threat. His cropped ears flicked forward as she spoke, and he analyzed her voice listening to the slightest sound of threat.
"My name is Edge. Nothing more, nothing less. I guess it is nice to meet you, Blitz." It had been a while since he had been with a dog, and wasn't attacking them, snarling and tearing at fur, locking his paws around his neck, and sinking his jaws in. All to protect his master. "Well maybe we should get going. If we work together, maybe we can get food faster." Raising his head to meet her eyes, he wrinkled his muzzle. "Mind you, I'm only working with you to get food because I haven't eaten in weeks." Blitz's eyes bugged out of her head comically, "In weeks? Well I've seen a lot, but I have defiantly never thought I'd see a zombie." She grinned down at him, trying to lighten the mood a little. Right now the air crackled with unease and suspicion. It would seem that Edge didn't trust her, and who could blame him. There were cannibals, murders, and pyschos wondering about. One could never be too careful in today's world.
Then, as if remembering that she had a job to attend to, Blitz put her pink tinted nose to the ground and tried to pick up a scent of any live prey. The distinct scent of bird was the easiest for her to latch onto; she had trailed birds for years with her Safeguard. However, birds were hard to catch if they weren't grounded so she focused on the faint scents of deer and squirrel. Immediantly she perked up, "I smell deer. I never smell deer around here." She let her feet carry her away in the direction of the scent. If there was a deer in the woods, that would mean a full meal for both of the dogs, and maybe any other canines that happened to be the area. Plus, it meant that prey was moving into the woodlands; a very comforting thought.
He almost laughed, but instead made a low grunting sound is his stomach. "Heh. I've been through worse before." He backed up a little, not wanting to have to look up at the dog. His fur seemed to lay flat, and he tasted the air as she spoke.
"Whadda you know? I smell it too. Tell you what, if there's a buck, I say we should go for that. For starters, it's bigger, and if there's a doe and a male, there may be fawns around. I don't to orphan anything, just because we need the population to grow if we are going to make a sustainable living. However, if there's a doe we should make the kill. You lead it over to me, and I'll take the thing down. Together, we can deal the finishing blow. We'll have our bellies full of meat, should or hunt go right."
He smiled a toothy grin, licking his jowls, clearly thinking. He signalled her to fan out, and get behind the deer, which was a young buck. He crept into a bush, where he would leap and tackle the deer down.

@shootforthestars Parker had a pretty charming smile, for a bull terrier. He trotted over, greeting the mother-dog with an assuring lick. "Don't worry, I won't bite. Besides, I just ate!" He grinned even wider. "Well doll, my name's Parker, for starters. And if you don't mind me asking, was your master very generous, or are you expecting pups? Surely, if you are, you might need a little more help hunting, to feed the extra mouths, yeah?" He was pretty sure that she was expecting, because of the scent she gave off. It was sweeter, milkier, and he'd come across many a pregnant dame who gave off similar scents. He remembered the smell from his own mother, musky, but sweet, strong, and comforting.
He was attempting to be quite friendly, knowing that often times his breed was feared for their aggression. lozi April stood a little taller, wary of this dog. It wasn't that he was displaying any signs of aggression, but her motherly instincts told her to be on edge until she knew that his male could be absolutely trusted. When he gave her a lick, her lips pulled back but she refrained from snarling at him. Maybe it was because she was expecting or maybe it was because she lived in a horrible world, but even the assurance that wafted off of him seemed forced, "No I'm just fat."
April grinned thinly and blinked twice before saying in amusement, "Of course I'm expecting. No dog can be this big anymore without carrying pups." She sighed and looked around, some of the fight leaving her as she realized just how hungry she was and how rude she was being. Her nerves were fried and her excepting was not helping with her attitude, "I'm sorry Parker. I'm being horrible to you. I would appreciate any help you can give me with hunting since I can't help myself. And... my name is April, not doll." April glanced up at him, her shoulders sagging and her pelt heating up as her stomach rumbled loudly.

Blitz smiled as she heard Edge's plan, "Got it!" He couldn't have picked a better job for her in this hunt. She was born to flush game out of the brush towards her Safeguard. This would be all to easy for her. The English Setter moved down wind of the young buck and crouched down into the rough patch of bushes. She waited until Edge seemed ready and after she took of deep breath, she leapt from her hiding spot and bolted towards her prey. When the deer heard her bark and crash towards it, the buck let out a call and sprang away from her. It went straight towards the hiding Pitbull. Blitz chased after the deer, tongue hanging out of her mouth and eyes alight with joy.

@mongrel Brimstone to Lad Brimstone shook his pelt, trying to hide the reassured glint in his eyes. Truth be told, he had expected Lad to not return, and part of him wished he hadn't. However, he was glad he had returned. He'd need all the help he could get, if he was to carry this out. "Lad, I've got an idea. Safety in numbers, yeah? If we could get all the mutts in the city under our paws, we'll hold power over multiple dogs. We'd keep them under our paws, and find a way to get them to come to us. Slowly, we'll gather followers. As we do, we'll take over more territory in the forest outside the city. The more territory we hold, the more prey we can hold inside our territory. The food in the city won't last forever, and it'll spoil sometime. They'll have to come into our forest if they want food. And if they want food from our forest, they have to join our ranks."
He stepped back, as if to give Lad some space to ponder on what he had just said, and on his plans for power.

Edge to Blitz
Edge crouched into the bushes, praying the dog wouldn't screw it up. She'd better have experience, being a setter, she should at least have instincts. Maybe, if he was lucky, she was used for hunting, and would be able to do it right. His heart soared, and moreover, his stomach growled as he heard hooves pounding towards him. As he crouched to leap, the deer leaped over the bush. He swore under his breath. The deer must have smelled him! He wasted no time, springing straight up out of the bush, he rammed his head into the deer's ribs. He heard a sharp crack, and the buck lashed out, catching his muzzle with a sharp hoof. His head snapped to the side, and his muzzle gushed blood. He whipped his head back, biting at the deer, and catching the leg of the deer. It got up, dragging him slowly across the clearing. He let go but quickly surged forward, headbutting the deer in the ribs. It let out a scream of pain, and went down. It didn't get up, and its eyes were closing. They didn't open again. Edge's muzzle was covered in blood, but not just his own. He touched his bloodied muzzle to the mangled flank, as it swelled with air, and exhaled. The flanks stopped heaving, and he murmured his apologies for not giving the buck a clean kill.
"Come forth and give gratefulness for your prey. Then, we can eat."

Rhapsody to Woodrow
Rhapsody cautiously eyed the prancing dog, as he made circles around her. She recoiled at his sniff, but when he bowed into a playful stance, she too couldn't help herself. She charged, her stocky legs pushing her towards the little dog, barreling her thick skulled head into his side. She rolled him over and over, kicking her paws into his stomach, her untrimmed claws catching on knots of fur and dirt. She unlocked her paws from around his neck, and hopped off him, snoring breaths of air in through her flat muzzle.
"My name's Rhapsody! I'm a bulldog. Sometimes my master called me Frenchie. What's your name? What are you? I've never seen a dog like you before!"

One could almost imagine the sounds of her throat emerging from the dry casing of dirt that had coated it for so long. "Thank you so much." She struggled to find her paws, but ended up heavily leaning on Cherry. She sat, looking sheepish. "Thank you for coming to my aid. My name is Sato, as I am sure you must be wondering. Who might you three saints be, if I would have the pleasure of knowing?"

Becca to Amber
"Hun, it's time to let go." She shook her head. "The sooner you do, the easier it is for you, y'know? I would. I had a family of People. They had their young, and they trusted me to watch over them. The trusted me to make sure no one got into their den." She grit her teeth, clearly having a wave of painful memories. "There was this one thief though, who kept coming inside the fence. Whenever I was outside, I'd chase him away. He'd scream, and hurl a bunch of papers into my territory. I'd gather them up, and put them on the step, so my People could examine what trash he'd thrown into our yard." She laughed, clearly enjoying the memory.

Evangelline // Lubov // Cherry ??? // ?????
This was the first time they smiled throughout the past few days; gentle pants and lolled tongues sheathed by closed smiles. The trio stood close together; a mess of torn fur and oozing cuts. Yet they were saints; three dogs who had their hearts set on helping others.
"I'm no saint; but Evangelline thinks she is. The big white Hound. Lubov is the Doberman; and she doesn't talk much. I'm Cherry! Just a Shiba." Her ignorance was enough to speak for the other two; and Lubov seemed to shake her head slowly at the Shiba's classic display of friendliness.
"We're not much; but we need all the dogs we can get on our side. Got anywhere special you're going?" The Pharaoh's soft blue eyes rested upon the worn female; her tail of white wire swaying gently with the breeze that was no more.
"Could use all the paws we can get."

Amber sighed and nodded. "Maybe you're right, but I'm not taking of my uniform, not yet. it will keep my body protected, who knows what's out there, ready to kill?" The feminine looked around. "We should find shelter before it gets dark, we're wide out in the open too, which would make it worse." Amber pulled something out of the bag she was carrying. It was a tactical vest, much like her own. "Here, I brought an extra in case mine got damaged, I think you should have it, it will keep you protected. Go ahead and put it on." she said, laying it at Becca's paws.

He stepped back, as if to give Lad some space to ponder on what he had just said, and on his plans for power. Lad pondered this for a few seconds. Those dogs would be more hindrance than help, always whining about their lost People, and most would be completely inexperienced in the ways of the independent dog. Then again, a choice few might be of some use doing the filthiest jobs—killing, blackmailing . . . "Okay," conceded Lad with finality. "So long as I'll be choosing where we live." And so long as I'll be in charge, not you, he wanted to add, but held his tongue, for he knew such words would offend the touchy Brimstone. An image of a small building flashed in his mind, its sides rust–red with endurance, its roof caving inward slightly, its sagging contours outlined sharply against the factory warehouse not far behind. It was an insurance agency, and Lad only knew about it because it was not far from the pit in which he had once fought. They'd live there for the time being, scavenging, and when the time came that the rats and spoils no longer satisfied them, the motley pack would move into the forest for good. Lad's eyes tightened as the sound of excited, puppyish yaps erupted in his head. Lad suddenly found himself mourning for the town, even though he hadn't even left it yet.

I feel like I haven't even given a clear idea as to the town, so let me summarize it:
Aberstwyth (Town) The town in which the dogs dwell is your average–joe, southern conurbation, more poor than it is wealthy. The sleazy fast food joints are about as elegant a dining experience as you can get, and half the buildings are either falling down or loathsome in condition. Neighboring places scorn and detest this little village—Aberstwyth, Tennessee.
Located in the center of town, or in that general area, is Court Square, the most charming part of Aberstwyth there is. A variety of small, charming buildings encircle Court Square, each of which contains its own business. A sprawling fountain that glows Aurora Australis–like lights at night, the only desirable town amenity (the community pool is too disgusting for its own good), sits on the corner (how the town managed to pay for it beats me.) This area is essentially the only thing Aberstwyth has to be proud of, aside from its small selection of failing, mouse–laden Chinese buffets. Ew, right?
West of Court Square is a line of 1950s homes, and, west still, Baptist churches. If you go further west, you will find yourself in an average little neighborhood with more businesses than homes (this is where the Insurance Agency is located); take a north street instead and you will emerge into the Historic District, the wealthier, better–looking part of town, lined with sophisticated–looking houses—mostly cozy cottages and Queen Annes—and once inhabited by upright residents.
Beyond the reaches of town is the Industrial District. Here is located a sea of looming factories and warehouses, many of which are hauntingly vacant. Trains once frequented this area, whistles blaring, but the Beasts are likely too incompetent to keep them running, as they have no need for trade or commerce (not that the Beasts are intelligent enough to comprehend even that thought, much less come up with it.)
To the far east is the poorest part of town, a sea of small, squalid, poorly–kept huts and ramshackle community housing. East still is a sea of abandoned cars and burnt buildings. Advance along the long, devastating Highway 490, which is basically a straight line, and you will find yourself in rural Privet, and, if you go any further, suburban Washington, which is where Washington County High, Middle, and, to the side, in the tiny neighborhood of Black Sand, Elementary Schools are located.

Pandora padded out from an she'd been living in. She shook out her thick, white fur and looked around, tilting her ears to hear different directions. She stretched out and decided to go see what she could find to eat. She wandered down the street of the desolate town. Her entire body was on alert as she walked.
Liberty slipped through the forest, quiet as the mice she was chasing. Her long slender body moved easily through the foilage and her light brown coat nearly camouflaged her.

She knew what his breed was capable of, but seeing the way he took down the deer reinforced the fact that he was a dangerous predator who would be a useful ally and a deadly foe. He was shorter, smaller, less fast than her, but he carried himself with confidence and pride. The Setter liked that.
Blitz bowed her head over her meal and gave a short prayer of thanks before digging in. The meat was tough, tougher than anything she had ever eaten before, but each bite was like a firework of flavor exploding in her mouth. She moaned in pleasure and shoved her shout into the bloodied meat, ripping off another chunk. Soon, when her belly was heavy with the weight of food and her coat dyed red with blood, she gave a sigh of relief and flopped over onto her side, "Thank you for the meal! That's the best I've eaten in years." The female set to cleaning herself up and then as if she had remembered something, jerked her head over to Edge, "Hey, great teamwork! I couldn't have done it without you." Blitz smiled lazily at him and then resumed her resting.

"I'm Woodrow!" he yipped, skin twitching with delight. He skirted the other dog with ersatz assertion and then sprang at her abruptly, skidding wildly in the air before plummeting downward, angling his back toward the ground so as to land softly. He tumbled repetitiously before springing back up again, uncowed. The hyperactive terrier suddenly heard the telltale squeak of a rat. He spotted the varmint climbing up some ivy that crept along the wall of a worn brick building alongside, and he sprang at it without thinking twice. His muzzle slammed against the wall, crushing the rat, and with a yelp he bit down on his tongue. Woodrow dropped back down to the ground, devouring the corpse in spite of his bleeding, smarting mouth.

"I was thinking, if your belly fat lasted that long since your People, I wonder how much they fed you! C'mon, if we try hard enough we can find something easy. Maybe we can find some spoils to get into. There is a Human store that the People used to go to to get food for them to eat. Maybe, we'll be able to find something."
Gesturing to her with his tail, he led her along the street, towards the Human store. He made sure to pace his strides, so as the dame could keep up with him. Clearing the path as he went, he pushed sharp stones, or pushed over precariously stacked Human trash. They clattered to the ground. Satisfied that nothing would fall on, trip, or injure the she-dog and her swollen belly, he jumped around in front of the Human store door. When the sensors detected him, the doors flew open, and he leaned against one to let her in without the door closing on her.

Невыносимая коммунизм
"Well whoever you are, you just saved my life. If that isn't being a saint, then I don't know what is!" Cautiously, she approached the other dogs, sniffing their pelts, circling them, seeming to size them up, and see their condition of wear. "Well, Lubov, Cherry, Eva, it seems you've seen about as much wear as I have. This path month hasn't been treating me very well, and I guess it's safe to say that for the three of you two."
When the question was asked, she tapped a paw on the ground. "Well, my People are dead now. So I don't have anywhere to go home to. In fact, this is my home, or what's left in it. If you want, we can go in and see if there's any food in the cold box or drawers, yeah? I'm starving."
Inviting them to follow her with a flick of her round tail, she squeezed through the doggy door. It cracked, clearly not supposed to allow things inside, as the Akita forced her way through, determined to forge a path for her newfound friends.
"Now that we're sticking together, and you've witnessed my story, what's yours?"
